    Smart👍 One more tip. Before you open up the bag shake it upside down extending the bottom gussets to get out everything out of the corners. This allows the powder to head towards the top so you not have such a big clump of powder in the corners before adding the water.

    Thanks, Ernie, for going out in a rainstorm so WE can have a perfectly hydrated meal. What a guy! :-)

    I use a double walled water bottle as a secondary water carrier and a rehydration cosy. Also useful as a hot-water bottle at night.

    Ernie I LOVE the idea of notching the handle of your spoon for measurement's sake! Great touch if your cup does NOT come so arrayed!

    The one headache with the meals is always having something to accurately measure the water with. Greatt idea about the spoon it's always with you I like to make my own dehydrated meals the freezer bag way. A cozy is the best way to keep them hot while re hydrating.

      Hey Chuck I am just starting to get into dehydrating food.. I can't afford a freeze dryer.. If I prepped a meal dehydrated in a vaccune seal bag.. Could I achieve similar results? With close to accurate boiling water in the vaccum bag material?

    A lot of the coozy videos I've seen show them being made so much more difficult. I like your way! So easy and simple. It's just a coozy, no need to over engineer it lol! Keep up the vids! So informative!

    Hyperlite Mountain Gear makes probably the best cozy on the market. You can fold the lid backwards, buckle it and use it as a handle. Best part is It’s only an ounce. Down side is $$$$

    I made my cozy from one of the ubiquitous, blue foam pads in Walmart’s camping section. A 2’X1’ rectangle doubled over and sides laced up with light cord and tied off. A few hole about 3/8” along the open top are laced closed and tied with an easily released bow knot. When it isn’t being used to hold meals that are rehydrating, it’s a handy cushion for sitting or kneeling.
    And, we need a better name for these. A cozy is what elderly ladies keep teapots warm with. We might as well call them petticoats, or corsets. Come on - what’s an outdoorsy name for these outdoors tools?

    Whats the purpose of that pouch. It wont do anything for the meal except hold it, so in effect its just adding bulk and a little extra mass to the back pack

    Isn't the Mountain House bag thicker when it's filled with the hot water?? I don't know, but maybe measure a bit longer when cutting the pouch material?? Just a thought.

    That is a cool hack with the water bottle on your pack strap. Is that jury rigged with a zip tie or something or is that some gear built for that purpose?

    • @meenahug
      @meenahug Před rokem +1

      I have a key chain thing with a rubber ring that stretches over the rim of most water bottles. It’s made for the purpose. Got it at Disney land I think but I’ve seen them elsewhere.
