    I really like your drawing that shows your original outlet and the new one you are installing and the wiring is VERY clear. I need to check your other videos because I want to change a single duplex outlet into a dual duplex out and it is not the last box in the circuit so I need to see how to continue to the other downstream outlets.

    • @sparky_izzy
      @sparky_izzy  Před 11 měsíci +1

      You would need to shut off the circuit, remove the old box & undo all the wiring. Then get yourself a new 2 gang remodel box, cut out the old hole to the new dimensions of the 2 gang box. You would add “pigtails” to both new receptacle. Which is a 6-8” single black, white & ground to each receptacle. Then you hook up all the blacks together, all the whites together & all the grounds together with the proper wire nuts. Hope that makes sense. You gave me a video idea. If I come across this, I will make a video!

    Good job overall, but I'd like to make a few points/suggestions. On the cut in box, those are integral clamps and meant to hold the NM cable (Romex) in the box. You aren't supposed to rip them off. Also, I find it easier to strip the wires before I put them into the box so I use an NM Cable stripper that strips 12-2 and 14-2.

    • @sparky_izzy
      @sparky_izzy  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Off the top of my head, there are two options I can think of. One would be that you cut the sheet rock in order to drill a hole through the stud so that you can pull your wires The other option I’m thinking of is running up into the attic and over the stud and come back down to tap into the existing receptacle. Hope this helps.

    • @sparky_izzy
      @sparky_izzy  Před rokem +1

      Yes that will work, only if you connect the new outlet to the “load” side of the GFCI. Adding a GFCI takes care of the ungrounded problem. So if there is a ground fault, the gfci & any other outlets being fed by it on the “load” side will be protected by the GFCI & “grounded”.

    Your video is well done, but I do have to point out that your drawing is incorrect. It shows 3 wires, including the pigtail wire, twisted together in one wire nut, you should have a total of 4 wires twisted together, otherwise there would be no need for a pigtail. If you minus the pigtail in your drawing you would now only have 2 wires, one would go on either side of the outlet, so you would not need the pigtail.
