I would appreciate a lot more of this kind of coverage on a lot of games. The initial state at release is rarely the final state. Sometimes they make it better, like no man’s sky. Sometimes they allegedly make it much worse like with crash team racing adding in micro transactions after the review period
The increased draw distance in san andreas along with no fog ruined the illusion of a bigger map. You should not be able to see las venturas and the desert from the countryside or mount chiliad from grove street.
Don’t let what we’ve been programmed to believe from playing games made in 2001 to what the intention has always been. The fog has been and always will be a way to mask technical draw distance failures and atmosphere. Rockstar was being creative and clever with fog. I’m sorry the internet has told you guys that increased draw distance makes a game bad. I understand it takes away from how big the map felt when we were kids but these maps were always this size they were always small in comparison to what we can do today. Not a person alive would say “the definitive edition is bad” if this was what we were made to believe was normal from the beginning. These remasters get a bad wrap because it’s cool to go with the popular opinion and seem insightful. They aren’t perfect but they aren’t terrible in the slightest
The worst thing about this release is that all they needed to do to make it worthwhile was to just make the original games work on updated hardware, maybe that'd require some major refactoring to work in a different engine but they basically have the instructions on how the games should look, that's like a third of gamedev time dealt with right there.
They did the same thing to IV. They took a diversity of 54 songs out in an update (which is ironical) and replaced them with like a handful of foreign songs. Rockstar just doesn't stand up to the standard they set for themselves these days. It's very unfortunate. They've always been one of my favorites, but they irrefutably have a lot of bullshit to answer for.

That doesn't mean it was originally a mobile game, resident evil 8 came to mobile too it's just mobile devices are getting much more powerful I mean most phones make the switch look absolutely slow AF and this is already on the switch

Same. I really want to play san andreas, but I read reddit posts mentioning that is the one with the most problems and basically in all the games most of the soundtrack is removed. Anyway, I would rather have the devs port the old games physically if they can do it, just make the graphics better and make it easy to save progress. If they cant do any better, I might as well buy the san andreas verion for my ps2
@@TISUAL I was looking at buying this tonight (for $20) seeing that I don't have them all on PS2, but seeing that R* hasn't patched since they ditched Grove Street is concerning. Surely R* won't abandon the "Definitive Edition?" They have the talent to fix this game, but will they? Or do I just buy the PS2 trilogy ($29) and run it emulated on PC? Dunno. Never expected a R* game(s) to have a treatment like this. Take 2 is acting like a shady AA publisher.

@@TISUAL Just FYI... watched a video on the Android version of the Definitive Edition (by elements of the old Team Bondi) and it looks like it fixes many (not all) of the issues with this release. Will R* ultimately bring these fixes to other versions? My guess is "yes"... but probably around the time of the Android / Netflix release.
To make things worse, this is on sale on the PS Store CONSTANTLY...I mean like nearly every sale they do. And it still hasn't fallen below $30. I honestly would have bought it by now, despite its flaws if it was going for the $10-$15 rate it should be by now.

I dont have time to play these big games anymore i just pull up youtube and listen to these games radio channels instead. And it is a very good experience.
Funny enough, I was watching this video to see how the game is now and if it's worth the buy. Then a few seconds in the video, I remember that they left out a lot of songs due to copyright license bs. Emulating is the only way to enjoy the full experience. Don't need nice graphics. Need a nice game.
Really hope Rockstar use some of their massive profits to make an Enhanced Edition of the Trilogy & actually do a proper version (with better character models) themselves! It would sell really well, so I don’t know why they don’t
It's a shame I couldn't go through Vice city thanks to a bugged mission (the one in the shopping center). It's also so sad they sacrificed the fall leaves and newspapers of GTA III, as well as the lighting/color/fog of San Andreas
It’s funny (and sad) how their response to the mixed reception of these half-assed ports was to declare that GTA4 and RDR wouldn’t NOT be getting remasters. It’s like the audience is being punished for not buying busted products at full price on day one. I wonder if the Metal Gear Solid collection will change or improve much, or just get away with being inexcusably sub par.
As of now, the MGS collection was "meh". Currently, the best modern remaster is definitely Tomb Raider Trilogy, however Aspyr is still a shady developer.

Now that gta 6 is coming in 2025 it makes no sense for them to release a true remake for these games until at least 2030. Here’s hoping we may still see a valid update at some point in our lifetimes, maybe the 50th anniversary?
I got it because it was a way to get the Grand Theft Auto series on the Nintendo switch. The switch ports are pretty playable. However the annoying Grand Theft Auto III bug where the fire doesn't render when your vehicle is about ready to explode, makes things tough.
plus they used a computer program to remake the environments and textures (they called it AI but it wasn't AI. Too many people think that an automated process is AI)
To be honest, the game is playable and enjoyable, i have the ps5 version. I completed 100% with GTA3 and Vice City recently but i do noticed some buildings looks so ugly at a distance. So far, Vice City is the only game that looks kinda finished to me.
This trilogy is unfairly criticized imo. I own the originals and this new definitive trilogy. The originals are a product of their time, any remaster is not going to be like those original games. Yes, I get that the originals were delisted but you can still get the originals pretty easily on the 2nd hand market or get a key for the PC versions. As for the Definitive Editions, well they're far from perfect, believe me I get it. There are bugs and glitches. But the main question should be are they playable? Well, I've completed both GTA III Definitive Edition and Vice City Definitive Edition, on the final mission of San Andreas Definitive Edition right now. So yes, they are playable. Whether people want to play them or not is entirely subjective but I had a good time, just like I did when they originally released on PS2. The nitty gritty of it is this: The games themselves haven't fundamentally changed (as it's a remaster, not a remake) so if you enjoyed the originals you should enjoy this. The great story each game tells rises above the bugs and glitches because the stories are THAT good.
What kills they dint have to rush this out they could have taking their time to fixe the bugs and graphics then put it out in when it actually playable for all 3 games

I’m so glad I purchased the OG versions on the PlayStation Store before these came out. I do enjoy playing the new version of Vice City mainly due to how better Vice City looks and we can now use the right stick to move the camera. GTA III is decent too. But GTA SA Definitive Edition is so bad. I just play the OG one.
We need a remake of these badly, better graphics but still have the same atmosphere as the originals. Cleaner animations, the original animations are a bit choppy and buggy, and no crazy bugs like in the defective edition, also better character models that look realistic, make their eyes blink or something like seriously…
No no more remakes. So sick of remakes. All they needed to do was port the pc versions and install a graphics mod on it. Would have been far better than this
I dont think remakes are necessary. I think companies just need to preserve their old games better, make them available for purchase and make them compatible with today's systems instead of having to rely on fan made patches, it's crazy how fans do a way better job of preserving them than Rockstar does

i’m ngl i understand why ppl hate these remasters but i really don’t mind. sa is my fav game of all time so it’s cool to see it in a new light despite bugs.i like the graphic style obviously a full remaster would be better but for what it is, i love it. i’ll play these over the originals any day. just a cool revisit to the past 🤷♂️
People just have really high expectations of Rockstar but I do agree that people were really overreacting. I own the games and they are perfectly fine other than the lampposts falling into the backrooms and the ugly character models
The definitive edition of San Andreas is the original, though. I recently got the original version modded to a first person perspective and stereoscopic 3D in vr glasses. No further upgrades to graphics or anything needed.
Got this on release day, waa such an awful port, so i demand a refund from PS Store. Took 6 weeks of constant emails and voicing my complaint, but i did get full refund in the end..
the so called "apology" from Rockstar, and by extension other devs who have to apologize for their sorry state of their released game, is just inexcusable seeing as someone had to say, *rubs hot sauce in eyes* "yea good to me, release it". that required at least a semi conscious state to think this remaster, and by extension other released buggy games by other devs, means they knew and yet pushed it out. they sold you something knowing it was a pile and yet had the nerve to apologize. they knew yet they couldnt be bothered. im still peeved 2 years later because at this point, Rockstar and Take Two just see their "fan base" as ATMs to syphon money out. they are so high up their pedestal all they breathe in is their own farts. man im still salty about this.

There are a lot of modes for the classic version. You can customize it as you like. What I like about the new version is the light, that's all for the rest. Old version with some upscale mods and fix it better ❤.
We need this game to be remade with unreal engine 5 we deserve that, won't happen for another 10 plus years but I think Rockstar is probably thinking about it.

This release was rockstar’s biggest fumble yet. Could’ve been a well done re-release of all their old work to the HD universe and gave players who don’t care about GTA Online something to play til 6 came out
The old GTA games haven't aged well the mechanics are too outdated for today's time going back and trying to play these games again was torture. An example of a classic game from the same era that aged well is Max Payne yet Take two is remaking the Max Payne series so all the GTA's should get remakes as well. Literally no reason not to as it's obviously leaving a lot of money on the table.
The real question is why is this 59.99 on switch but on ps4/5 & Xbox it’s always on sale for about half the price. I mean for $60 stories and China wars should of been included too.

I just played through GTA3 on my steamdeck and didn't bump into any serious issues. I started Vice City and the game crashed and closed twice in my first hour.

I'm a bit late to the party but just bought the trilogy and played through 3 on xbsx, couple of oddities here and there (floating bobcat moving along with traffic etc) but generally it was a great nostalgia trip and played well, wouldn't call it tragic.
I recently tried to play through 3 but mine has a glitch that makes it so Claude can't run, it makes the game so frustrating to play especially when I'm on foot and I'm trying to get a vehicle because unless it's driving towards me I can't reach any before they drive off
So it's worth playing? I was about to buy it tonight ($20) but held off after watching this video. Hard to believe Take 2 (and R*) haven't fixed this yet.
@kaipacifica1289 if you REALLY want to play the classics on modern hardware, then yes, very playable. Just be aware, as was stated by online reviewers, there have been a few things removed that change the whole experience (colour grading, haze etc) but it scratches my nostalgia spot well enough. Ethically, buy pre owned and don't give take 2 any more money for how they've mishandled this release.
The (justifiable) backlash these games got really broke my heart because GTA3 was (and still is) one of my favorite games of all time.....and i was shocked at the sheer amount of *AUDACITY* of Rockstar for charging full price for tgis dumpster fire smmfh
Disagree GTA 4 was the best in the series than gta 3 any day. niko Belic has character and is a very likable. Plus way better story plot along with decent visuals it’s a no brainer for sure
@@verdalprice2889 they can't really be compared. The general rule is everyone has a favourite from the cartoony ps2 trilogy and then you have another favourite from the newer gen versions. For me it's GTA 3 from the ps2 trilogy and then out of the newer gen games my favourite would GTA Episodes
I remember trying to play this game before it was removed from the ps+ services, and I stayed blocked at one of the very first missions, because of a silly bug. It made me very disappointed. It was a great idea to offer players the opportunity to play these awesome games on modern hardwares and Rockstar just ruined this and disrespect their player database. I guess it's fine now, since they are preparing a new carrot to make us move on and every journalist is on the verge of cu***ing in their pants, analyzing every pixel of the trailer...
It’s important to remember that these games had nothing to do with Rockstar. As I understand it; T2 came to them and said they wanted to re-release most of Rockstar’s back catalogue and R* essentially responded “okay, but we ain’t got time for that” so T2 commissioned War Drum Studios (a mobile developer, mind you) to “port” 3 games from their Renderware engine to Unreal… which is a pretty monumental task and required what essentially amounted to rebuilding the vast majority of all 3 games… And then T2 said “oh yea, you have about a year to do it” they done yet?” “No….” “Well they’re releasing in 3 weeks so…” And then when they were released they threw, what’s now/then, Grove Street Games under the bus… a very small company who had nowhere near enough time, resources, nor experience to do what they were asked to do. This was a botched development from the top of the ladder, and when it all went down; Rockstar themselves took over fixing them and had done a pretty decent job at it.

@@ltodom5884 exactly 💯, there was a big one time that even showed the on screen controls. It was weird 😕, the definitive edition was built from the mobile ports and not from the native console.
Vice city was the only one i had problems with glitches.
It plays better on mobile, you can move while shooting on GTA 3 and vice city
They just dropped these on mobile and they r really good. Option to turn the lighting back to the originals made a big difference

It's ironic that I checked to see if this "Definitive Edition" had improved. This post couldn't have been more on time...and it saves me the trouble of even bothering! Same. I really want to play san andreas, but I read reddit posts mentioning that is the one with the most problems and basically in all the games most of the soundtrack is removed. Anyway, I would rather have the devs port the old games physically if they can do it, just make the graphics better and make it easy to save progress. If they cant do any better, I might as well buy the san andreas verion for my ps2
@@TISUAL I was looking at buying this tonight (for $20) seeing that I don't have them all on PS2, but seeing that R* hasn't patched since they ditched Grove Street is concerning. Surely R* won't abandon the "Definitive Edition?" They have the talent to fix this game, but will they? Or do I just buy the PS2 trilogy ($29) and run it emulated on PC? Dunno. Never expected a R* game(s) to have a treatment like this. Take 2 is acting like a shady AA publisher.

@@TISUAL Just FYI... watched a video on the Android version of the Definitive Edition (by elements of the old Team Bondi) and it looks like it fixes many (not all) of the issues with this release. Will R* ultimately bring these fixes to other versions? My guess is "yes"... but probably around the time of the Android / Netflix release.

To make things worse, this is on sale on the PS Store CONSTANTLY...I mean like nearly every sale they do. And it still hasn't fallen below $30. I honestly would have bought it by now, despite its flaws if it was going for the $10-$15 rate it should be by now.

They didn't have time to fix an unmonetized mess like the GTA collection. They were too busy raking in money by the barrel from rubes who still buy garbage in GTA Online.
I'm glad Rockstar has clarified what it considers to be an acceptable quality level for its products. That'll save me a tidy sum when GTA 6 comes out.
The trilogy was "remastered" by the B-team... Grove Street Games.
I personally don't blame Rockstar and think GTA6 will top GTAV

It’s funny (and sad) how their response to the mixed reception of these half-assed ports was to declare that GTA4 and RDR wouldn’t NOT be getting remasters. It’s like the audience is being punished for not buying busted products at full price on day one. I wonder if the Metal Gear Solid collection will change or improve much, or just get away with being inexcusably sub par.
As of now, the MGS collection was "meh". Currently, the best modern remaster is definitely Tomb Raider Trilogy, however Aspyr is still a shady developer.

Now that gta 6 is coming in 2025 it makes no sense for them to release a true remake for these games until at least 2030. Here’s hoping we may still see a valid update at some point in our lifetimes, maybe the 50th anniversary?
I got it because it was a way to get the Grand Theft Auto series on the Nintendo switch. The switch ports are pretty playable. However the annoying Grand Theft Auto III bug where the fire doesn't render when your vehicle is about ready to explode, makes things tough.
Rockstar needs to take lots of notes from cyberpunk.

To be honest, the game is playable and enjoyable, i have the ps5 version. I completed 100% with GTA3 and Vice City recently but i do noticed some buildings looks so ugly at a distance. So far, Vice City is the only game that looks kinda finished to me.
This trilogy is unfairly criticized imo. I own the originals and this new definitive trilogy. The originals are a product of their time, any remaster is not going to be like those original games. Yes, I get that the originals were delisted but you can still get the originals pretty easily on the 2nd hand market or get a key for the PC versions.
As for the Definitive Editions, well they're far from perfect, believe me I get it. There are bugs and glitches. But the main question should be are they playable? Well, I've completed both GTA III Definitive Edition and Vice City Definitive Edition, on the final mission of San Andreas Definitive Edition right now. So yes, they are playable. Whether people want to play them or not is entirely subjective but I had a good time, just like I did when they originally released on PS2.
The nitty gritty of it is this: The games themselves haven't fundamentally changed (as it's a remaster, not a remake) so if you enjoyed the originals you should enjoy this. The great story each game tells rises above the bugs and glitches because the stories are THAT good.
I swear to god, the old game looked exactly like this when we was kids.

I’m so glad I purchased the OG versions on the PlayStation Store before these came out. I do enjoy playing the new version of Vice City mainly due to how better Vice City looks and we can now use the right stick to move the camera. GTA III is decent too. But GTA SA Definitive Edition is so bad. I just play the OG one.

We need a remake of these badly, better graphics but still have the same atmosphere as the originals. Cleaner animations, the original animations are a bit choppy and buggy, and no crazy bugs like in the defective edition, also better character models that look realistic, make their eyes blink or something like seriously…
No no more remakes. So sick of remakes. All they needed to do was port the pc versions and install a graphics mod on it. Would have been far better than this
I dont think remakes are necessary. I think companies just need to preserve their old games better, make them available for purchase and make them compatible with today's systems instead of having to rely on fan made patches, it's crazy how fans do a way better job of preserving them than Rockstar does

i’m ngl i understand why ppl hate these remasters but i really don’t mind. sa is my fav game of all time so it’s cool to see it in a new light despite bugs.i like the graphic style obviously a full remaster would be better but for what it is, i love it. i’ll play these over the originals any day. just a cool revisit to the past 🤷♂️
People just have really high expectations of Rockstar but I do agree that people were really overreacting. I own the games and they are perfectly fine other than the lampposts falling into the backrooms and the ugly character models

The definitive edition of San Andreas is the original, though. I recently got the original version modded to a first person perspective and stereoscopic 3D in vr glasses. No further upgrades to graphics or anything needed.
Got this on release day, waa such an awful port, so i demand a refund from PS Store. Took 6 weeks of constant emails and voicing my complaint, but i did get full refund in the end..
They put a classic lighting mode in the damn mobile version before doing so on Console or PC, let that sink in
the so called "apology" from Rockstar, and by extension other devs who have to apologize for their sorry state of their released game, is just inexcusable seeing as someone had to say, *rubs hot sauce in eyes* "yea good to me, release it". that required at least a semi conscious state to think this remaster, and by extension other released buggy games by other devs, means they knew and yet pushed it out. they sold you something knowing it was a pile and yet had the nerve to apologize. they knew yet they couldnt be bothered. im still peeved 2 years later because at this point, Rockstar and Take Two just see their "fan base" as ATMs to syphon money out. they are so high up their pedestal all they breathe in is their own farts. man im still salty about this.

There are a lot of modes for the classic version. You can customize it as you like. What I like about the new version is the light, that's all for the rest.

This release was rockstar’s biggest fumble yet. Could’ve been a well done re-release of all their old work to the HD universe and gave players who don’t care about GTA Online something to play til 6 came out
The old GTA games haven't aged well the mechanics are too outdated for today's time going back and trying to play these games again was torture. An example of a classic game from the same era that aged well is Max Payne yet Take two is remaking the Max Payne series so all the GTA's should get remakes as well. Literally no reason not to as it's obviously leaving a lot of money on the table.
The real question is why is this 59.99 on switch but on ps4/5 & Xbox it’s always on sale for about half the price. I mean for $60 stories and China wars should of been included too.

I just played through GTA3 on my steamdeck and didn't bump into any serious issues.
I started Vice City and the game crashed and closed twice in my first hour.

I do like the updated graphics of these definitive GTAs alongside the original ones. But I noticed a lot of comments mentioning they removed songs due to copyright, is there a way to add them back via the game files?
There are mods for the PC version that restore the music.
I'm a bit late to the party but just bought the trilogy and played through 3 on xbsx, couple of oddities here and there (floating bobcat moving along with traffic etc) but generally it was a great nostalgia trip and played well, wouldn't call it tragic.
I recently tried to play through 3 but mine has a glitch that makes it so Claude can't run, it makes the game so frustrating to play especially when I'm on foot and I'm trying to get a vehicle because unless it's driving towards me I can't reach any before they drive off
@@Stormin.93 you must do either all the firefighter or ambulance missions. One of those gives infinite sprint. Don't remember which.

@kaipacifica1289 if you REALLY want to play the classics on modern hardware, then yes, very playable.
Just be aware, as was stated by online reviewers, there have been a few things removed that change the whole experience (colour grading, haze etc) but it scratches my nostalgia spot well enough.
Ethically, buy pre owned and don't give take 2 any more money for how they've mishandled this release.
At least you can get the original versions of the games on PC...Just a shame they probably won't offer that option for consoles at any point.

Disagree GTA 4 was the best in the series than gta 3 any day. niko Belic has character and is a very likable. Plus way better story plot along with decent visuals it’s a no brainer for sure
@@verdalprice2889 they can't really be compared. The general rule is everyone has a favourite from the cartoony ps2 trilogy and then you have another favourite from the newer gen versions. For me it's GTA 3 from the ps2 trilogy and then out of the newer gen games my favourite would GTA Episodes
In my opinion, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is how you do a remaster.
I remember trying to play this game before it was removed from the ps+ services, and I stayed blocked at one of the very first missions, because of a silly bug. It made me very disappointed. It was a great idea to offer players the opportunity to play these awesome games on modern hardwares and Rockstar just ruined this and disrespect their player database. I guess it's fine now, since they are preparing a new carrot to make us move on and every journalist is on the verge of cu***ing in their pants, analyzing every pixel of the trailer...
It’s important to remember that these games had nothing to do with Rockstar.
As I understand it; T2 came to them and said they wanted to re-release most of Rockstar’s back catalogue and R* essentially responded “okay, but we ain’t got time for that” so T2 commissioned War Drum Studios (a mobile developer, mind you) to “port” 3 games from their Renderware engine to Unreal… which is a pretty monumental task and required what essentially amounted to rebuilding the vast majority of all 3 games…
And then T2 said “oh yea, you have about a year to do it”
they done yet?”
“No….”
“Well they’re releasing in 3 weeks so…”
And then when they were released they threw, what’s now/then, Grove Street Games under the bus… a very small company who had nowhere near enough time, resources, nor experience to do what they were asked to do.
This was a botched development from the top of the ladder, and when it all went down; Rockstar themselves took over fixing them and had done a pretty decent job at it.
