- Before Sarah Connolly became Cesare in the marvellous Glyndebourne "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" in 2005, she sang the role of Sesto. Heard here with Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Cornelia, in a live recording from Musikfest Bremen (2002). Marc Minkowski conducted Les Musiciens du Louvre. They sing the Act I closing duet "Son nata a lagrimar - Son nato a sospirar".
The complete cast was

Cleopatra - Danielle de Niese
Sesto - Sarah Connolly
Cornelia - Marie Nicole Lemieux
Tolomeo - Flavio Oliver
Achilla - Franck Leguerinel
Nireno - Dominique Visse

Tears ... heartbreaking ... the only way it should be performed, bravi!
So enchanting and alluring. Their voices are so chilling the low richness blends so well. Oh gosh brilliantly done.
Sarah's ornamentation is very elegant.
Oh god, it is so moving !
Thanks for posting this exquisite bit of singing.
Moved to tears - again!
Best of the best!
No even close!! Watch Lorraine Hunt (Lieberson) and Mary Westbrook-Geha sing this! Absolutely phenomenal!!!
Thanks! Fascinating interpreters.
Stunningly beautiful and humble. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing duet Andrey Nemzer & Charlene Canty singing CANTICUM FRATRIS SOLIS. Such humility and inspiration!
AMAZING!!!!

No one has.yet to top Lorraine Hunt Lieberson and Mary Westbrook-Geha!! If you haven't seen it, don't wait another minute!!!
I would like to hear her sing "Cara Speme" myself, but unfortunately, I don't have anything more from this performance.
Juste une petite précision en passant, l'opéra est de Haendel
Did you try the very moving performing from von Otter and Jaroussky. I couldn't hold my tears.
My favorite is still the duet of Stephanie Blythe (mezzo) & David Daniels (counter tenor). Magnificent synchronicity!
The best:Stutzmann-Jaroussky!!!
This is great but it ain't nothin' compared to the Lorraine Hunt Mary Westbrook Geha version.
Oh my, YES!!! Their performance is incomparable!! It will take an incredible duo to top their amazing sensitivity and musicality. Handel would have been ecstatic!!!
Lorraine Hunt Bernarda Fink est une magnifique version également
@@lied94 Thanks, will check it out!
