I think you could look at any field and find people who put years of effort into it and realized that they couldn't grasp it, weren't getting any better and/or couldn't make a living at it. Now, can time, effort, and practice help you improve in an area? Possibly, if you have the ability to learn and/or possess any skill at it. But there is a reason why certain people stand out/trailblaze and others are just adequate.
