Meine Oma hat mir das Lied beigebracht, als ich Kind war. Schön, dass es noch Leute gibt, die dieses Liedgut bewahren.

The text, of which several Swiss & South German dialect versions exist, is simple, even rudimentary, but full of meaning & with deep social connotations.
It's about some kids who decide to go out for begging.
The first two verses hint at their poverty by mentioning a freezing draught sweeping through their mother's tiny home.
The third & central verse "We'll go begging, and you will join us" describes the actual decision.
Then they plan the venture in detail, determining who will do & say what, ending with the line "You will say grace and I'll say thanks."
The text alone carries a high literary value that obviously remains unappreciated due to it being a 'mere folk song'. It certainly deserves more attention.
I love this melody and the entire song. BUT what does it mean? What is tralahumtidy, or whatever, and what his mother got to do with this. Explain Erich, please.
