  • What didn't this race have?
Fans saw a dominant performance by one driver in the first two stages cut off by a rain delay. When the action got back to green, fuel strategy came into play.
When a wreck with les than five laps to go resulted in overtime finishes, things got wild!

Great to hear your thoughts. This race had so many wild moments. The fuel situation at the end was madness. The 22 car had an amazing fuel strategy. The 8 car situation was really frustrating, I don’t understand how he got his position back.

First, good to hear your analysis as always. It will be interesting to see if they issue a penalty to Hocevar. I was surprised he didn't get held in the pits since he spun the 21 under caution in a way that was obviously intentional. I also want to hear what NASCAR says about the situation with the 8. I thought it was strange he got his spot back, but I leave that to the people in charge and don't worry about it much. Ironically, the 8 might have gotten a strong finish if he wasn't given the spot back.
Wow! Zane Smith almost stole one. He stole P2. Had Logano stumbled a tad sooner, Zane Smith might be a Cup series winner. I like Zane and think he's super talented, but that jump from Trucks to Cup is huge, and a lot of guys struggle with it. Though the cars are very different, it feels like the Truck guys are better served going to Xfinity just to experience the higher level of competition. I think Zane is definitely up for the Xfinity level. He may eventually be competitive in Cup, but that remains to be seen. Good to see him put a strong race together, even if strategy and attrition was involved.
The overtime situation was a bit of a perfect storm with the weird fuel strategies so you just had to know someone running out was going to cause at least one yellow. The 5 car caused two of the yellows, and arguably a third at the end of the race. I didn't hate his move on Hamlin in theory, and it had a good chance to work if he didn't catch the apron. Aside from running out of fuel, he also got a really bad restart once, and the stack up behind might have caused that caution. It was a bunch of different things. And speaking of mistakes, Bell has made worse mistakes than what he did yesterday, but the result was still not good. Bell has talked about needing to clean up those mistakes because he has cost himself a handful of times when he's had great cars. As good as he is now, just think of it if he does clean up his errors.

I think NASCAR felt sorry for Busch lol.

The fact Denny was so close to winning, several times, but didn't win due to badly timed cautions that caused multiple overtime restarts pissed me off. Go figure when Denny loses position to pit THEN the race finally ends. 🤦‍♂️

NASCAR talks about safety when they do this many restarts drivers running out of fuel is a safety hazard after 3 should be mandatory pit fuel only

The biggest shitshow of the 2024 NASCAR season without a doubt. Only one way to describe it: A fuel mileage wreckfest

It was a insane race not in a good way, about hocevar right hooking burton under caution is uncalled for remember a few years ago I think this was in Texas motor speedway we saw a similar thing happen when Willie Byron turn Danny Hamlin around the dog stretch.
