What I meany by talking about the steam trucks being the only working vehicles in the Fallout universe is that all other cars, trucks, and motorized vehicles in the world don't work anymore. Yes, the chosen one can repair a Highwayman in Fallout 2, but that's the exception that proves the rule. Since repairing the Highwayman is an optional side quest, we don't know if it being repaired is a canonical part of the world.
what about the far harbor boat?
No offense oxhorn but one and two of The Fallout series are more canonical than 4 seeing as how many retcons are in Fallout 4 in fact I've heard from quite a few Fallout fans that once they made the way to 3 and New Vegas the canonical story ended
Hmm. Vertibirds, Brotherhood blimps, several mobile sea vehicles make me think that by the time of NV motorised vehicles are starting to pop up with NCR.
The end of Fallout 2 resulted in a fair few advanced societies other than the NCR.
Oxhorn, you also forgot the working bomber that the Boomers use during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.
"Harry, the Stupidest Mutant Ever"
Ox, you don't know the half of it! He probably was an inspiration for the East Coast mutants.
The best part about him is his dialogue with the Vault Dweller with low intelligence.
It's basically this:
"- Uh?
- Uh???
- Huh?!
(the Vault Dweller) - Mom?"
And then he lets you go to the water pump free of charge. Brilliant
Or when you are a woman, you can give him a kiss to let you go.
I tried that but it didn’t work- maybe a charisma check?
you're sayin it like Harry was supposed to be the king of east coast hip hop or something lmao
@@TheHalogen131 yeah a "Kiss"
@@shastealyomeal
Radioactive huh 😈
Other than the Fallout Bible mentioning Ian's death at Necropolis, In Vault Dweller's memoirs, he states that Ian did indeed die at Necropolis. Whether the Vault Dweller's memoirs are still considered canon or not, it's still another source backing up the claim that Ian died there.
all of his memoirs are considered canon.
Even Dogmeats death, poor Dogmeat.
phillip wagner Chris Avalon stated that Bethesda decides the canon now. So if Bethesda uses what is in the Fallout bible, it's canon. If they go against it, it's not.
He died there in my playthrough
In my playthrough ian didn’t die at all
Necropolis is suppose to be old world Bakersfield, but Bakersfield is northwest of LA and Necropolis is far on the other side to the North East. However, EXACTLY where necropolis is located is also a town called Baker. I think the devs got the two confused lol
As a matter of fact, boiling water to push turbines is how most nuclear reactors work anyway.
They're really just glorified steam engines.
Isn’t that how almost all power generation works (save for wind and such)
That's one of my best examples of how we haven't really advanced much... One builds a massive and complicated structure (nuclear plant) but instead of harnessing the power from the fission directly (somehow), we use it just to boil water faster (facepalm). And generate a shit ton of nuclear waste... "Amazing"
@@mbogdanov2 that "somehow" is big if
@@mbogdanov2 Compared to conventional oil or natural gas plants, nuclear plants produce significantly less harmful waste. 97% of the waste is either clean (carbon ash, steam) or recyclable (slightly irradiated steel components). And you want to "harness" the fission somehow? Just what do you think we're doing? That energy is coming off as heat energy. Any higher rates of fission and you get into creating an atomic bomb from the heat and the shockwave its sudden release would cause.
@@mbogdanov2 That's the dumbest thing i've read today.
The amount of control and precision needed to make that chain reaction, with graphite controlling ion transfers so they don't reach criticality...
Humans haven't advanced much? One Soviet nuclear power plant today could power the entire world in the mid 19th century.
I really like the voice of Set. I hate that all the ghouls in modern Fallout games all sound the same.
Set was voiced by Jim Cummings, who also voiced Gizmo and the Master. Each performance was outstanding.
Thagomizer Cummings also did a tons of voices in Fallout 4, notably older settlers. The guy is a prolific voice actor, his work is everywhere.
Edit: I’ll always remember him as Darkwing Duck, however.
My back hurts... My feet hurt... Everything hurts.
Jim cummings is also winnie the pooh lol
I love Set! I like the way he speaks- his lingo, unique.
A world where the ghouls call you normie and not smoothskin is a world I don't want to be in.
at least they don't dab
I always knew 4chan trolls would rule the apocalypse.

If ghouls need water to live, how come that kid in the fridge survived in Fallout 4?
@Mamoru Shiikuro that doesn't explain the fact that ghouls also need to eat
Does someone actually say that in the game? And besides, he would've needed food too. The downfall of any zombie apocalypse is the zombies starving to death. Can't move without energy. Can't get energy out of thin air.
@@xxDrain in Fallout NV the ghoul Harland said he survived by eating radroaches and drinking condensation from the pipes
@Mamoru Shiikuro or t60 power armor which is meant to be the most advanced prewar power armor yet it was somehow not mentioned in the other fallout games and the x01 suit in Nuka World
God fallout 4 truly was a mistake
Bethesda really needs to come in and make some of the shit on it considered not canon.
Absolutely loved the choice for Jim Cummings as Set's voice actor. You can almost hear traces of Tigger in his voice.
Jim Cummings also does the voice of Pete from Disney and it’s identical to Set’s so for 5 years I’ve been perplexed at why you not only alphabetically skipped the correct parallel, but knew enough about his career that you picked Tigger?
Lol @@negatron6406
Jim Cummings has been everyone. He's also one of the voices of the Master
That steam truck is far from the only working Vehicle in Fallout Lore. In Fallout 2 you can help rebuild a Highwayman, the Fallout bible mentions that their is 1 vehicle per 1000 people, the NCR has Trunks that they work on in Camp McCaren, and the NCR uses Trains.
but didn't Oxhorn mention that the fallout Bible can or cannot be canon?
Also new reno has car thievery and garage to fix em. If only 1 car working those wouldn't be jobs.
potatoradio oh I don’t recall that
@@andrewlopez6225 That was only one piece of evidence I mentioned
Also Pre-War draglines around Sloan being used to mine limestone for concrete.
What about the car in fallout 2? That's a working vehicle
Edit: it's called the highwayman
Exactly
And the hummer in tactics? (PS: seems it was not canon, so don't mind me)
Hummer ain't canon, Highwayman is
Ooh my bad! i said nothing then

I love that in canon, one of your faithful companions (Ian) dies in the "middle" of the game. This gives meaning to the story. The travels and actions of your character affect not only the cities, settlements and some people but also your close friends. Although you found a water chip - you lost a companion. And, maybe, it's your fault. Now, you have a personal motivation to stop the Supermutants and the Master.
Eh I say he survived
No taste? @@711desmond
Agreed.
Part of the reason I loved the mortal companions and the end sludes from Fallout: New Vegas.
In Fallout 4 I just use FCOM mod to get a party, name them, and then see how their stories go in my companionship.
Lost many a good caravan guard to the gulpers in Far Harbor.
On one of my first playthroughs, I drunk a nuka-cola out of curiosity and immediately became addicted. Like actually addicted to nuka-cola. Nuka is highly addictive in Fallout 1 and 2. Needless to say, I never touched it again. It taught me a lesson about FO1; don't mess with things you don't understand, which makes sense in a violent wasteland where you could die at any moment.
Gay_Leonian_Nerd Penalties for addiction in FO1 and 2 didn't fuck around either, they could get downright TERRIBLE!
Yeah, if I remember correctly, mentats withdrawal could reduce your charisma and intelligence to 3. Which, would make doing quests practically impossible because you would be too dumb to talk. Addiction could ruin you, especially if you are new to the game and don't know. Be educated, kids. Say no to drugs.
Literally the first time drinking Nuka Cola AND taking Radaway, I got addicted. With the 10% chance that you could get addicted to those things, I did, and yet, I can’t hit a 60%+ chance on a hit to the eyes. Ridiculous.
@@gay_leonian_nerd3081 That’s exactly why I never use any drugs in the games. I just use rad-away and stimpacks.
Ian's death is also mentioned in the Vault Dweller's Memoirs in the Fallout 2 manual. Black Isle supposedly was going to include him in Fallout 2 as an elderly man (The Restoration Project actually adds him at Vault City). If you spoke to him, he would inform you that he personally asked the Vault Dweller to write that so he'd be remembered as going down in a blaze of glory.
Lol!
I love listening to these videos as I do my patrols on nightshift. I put the audio on and proceed to take a lovely trip down memory lane from when I played Fallout when I was 9.
Thank you so much for your descriptive playthrough, I absolutely adore you Ox!
I work nights aswell! 9pm till 7.30am at a hotel, Ox is a great story teller!
Tom Ives I do the same thing on long nights building power lines. Its great I'm not alone with this!
Nice
In the 4 years since you left that comment, did you run into any super mutants during your nightly rounds?
Patrolling while listening to Oxhorn almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
That Set guy’s dialogue is simply amazing.
I deeply regret you didn't make a low intelligence playthrough of Fallout 1, I know it would be massive ammount of work but hot damn did they make low-intelligence simply superior to any other builds :D Hope you'll make a video about it one day!
John Silver superiorly funny, anyway
*nuhuh*
Low intelligence builds are hilarious in 1 and 2.
Currently obsessed with these talking heads. Amazing voices on all of them.
im not a big fan of the play style of the original fallout but i really want to know the story and i love the art style so this series is great! i really hope there’s gonna be a fallout 2 one
I would pay a lot of money to play fallout 1 and 2 in 3D like the new games
SlasherLP Me too
Same but I can't watch this harry crap gameplay. It just bothers me for some reason.
Isometric is arguably the grandfather of most games including Warcraft and the like. Even if you can’t the turnbase should even it out a bit.
@@maxeeq i would be ok with extra quests added because they wouldn't take away from the story and besides a new way to look at fallout 1 would be interesting
Set: NORMIES GET OUT *REEEEEEEEEEEE!*
And that's how I learned to appreciate the term "Smoothskin"
"There better be a killer reason to be standin' in my shadow." is such a cold line.
Wow. Nuclear war actually made Bakersfield... exactly the same. Raspy voiced corpses shambling around, water crisis, less than stellar housing, and rampant discrimination. Don't know if that's good or not.
You could say the missiles missed Bakersfield entirely...
15:50Now i wanna fight a whole gang of pirate ghouls! Great.
I remember coming here, meeting the ghouls, and then leaving for awhile. When I came back near the end of the game I found them all dead and had no idea it was a trigger. That's really neat.
When asked about the children of the Cathedral, Harry responds: "Nice little guys. They patched me up when i was hurt"
Also, you missed the locker in the second floor behind the hostile ghouls. It contains two Rad-X
"Normie" holy shit, Set is the OG memelord!
fallout 01 used the word normie before it was popular 17:02
Is Set voiced by Jim Cummings? Yes!

I’d wager it’d be from Cuppa joes, they’re geographically closer, right?
What about Fallout lore and a glass of Nuka-Cola?
That's exactly what i'm doing now, black bitter coffee goes well with the dark story in Fallout lore.
And when I don't feel very good and I'm struggling to sleep listening to some of these videos again and it's just great fun&nostalgia, thank you for all the hard work you get
Nice way to start off the day, eating some eggs 'n bacon watching some Oxhorn.
Enjoy it, my man.
Well, its 4pm in germany lol. Have a good day!
It's 10:40pm in the Philippines, so it's dinner with Oxhorn here.
"Every Ghoul we meet can speak."
Not sure "Arrrr" is speaking. They seemed feral to me.
Don't ferals still speak a word here and there anyway? Even in the bethesda games I'm sure I've heard them scream 'die' as they charge on occasion, and seen it subtitled too.
I might be wrong though, it's been a while since I played fallout 3.
Perhaps he was a pirate ghoul.
@@korstmahler Yeah sometimes most ghouls turn feral so their cognitive functions and speaking is still active but their brains are dead.
They might use some muscle memory and repeatable sayings(like a raider saying die all the time)when they turned feral to make it work so its possible.
I think that half of the ghouls you see in Necropolis are in fact Feral. Which is why they have the "Arrrrr" line of dialogue and some of them attack on sight. We know that Ferals dont attack other Ghouls. Probably Interplay didnt know exactly how they wanted to handle the lore for them other than that their would be some wild and mindless ghouls and some not. Which would explain why the glowing ones spoke. I dont think the ferals are attacking because youre looting. I think theyre attacking because youre close enough at that point.
This series is so cool... I haven't played Fallout since I was 8 and I forgot a lot of the plot. Plus my disk was damaged from being a library loner. The game is too old to replay on modern hardware, but the story is still really awesome to revisit.
Just pirate it or buy on gog or steam, its awesome
@@nick5422 Have it on Steam but it never works :(
@@jpusar aww that's a shame. I know gog works though :)
2:50 the highwayman in Fallout 2 is a moving vehicle
Another nice one. I've found only one minor thing missing. There is secret traped door in the wall behind Set's back. Its presence allows a vault dweler got behind Set unnoticed. However i did not find nothing benefical in this approach. Maybe is some relict of unimplemented quest how to kill Sett secretly.
Never been scared of anything in fallout until now set makes my skin crawl
He looks like he’s about to fall apart into gory pieces.
Have you considered doing 100% run of Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, or Fallout 4? With your extensive knowledge of the games and in depth personality, I feel like you could offer some great insight into people trying to accomplish these feats. I know I'd at the least be entertained by it.
@Cameron Hudson fallout 4 is a great game cant change my mind.
@@Toonguyify the game itself is decent but it’s a hallowed out version of fallout. These game cores are the ability to play the games how you want with many choices and more importantly choices which lock you out of other options (actual consequences for your actions) fo4 the speech is pointless really.
Kinda sad Set didn't survive the mutant attack. Would've love to see him in a future fallout game
But, nuclear reactors work BY boiling water. Fission releases heat which boils the water and then the steam spins turbines.
I think a lot of people don't realize that nuclear power is pretty much steam power. They might think energy is somehow siphoned and used as electricity or something XP
That voice for Set was undeniable!! Jim Cummings is an absolute legend. I was unaware at how big the celebrity voice list was
Damn Set is a straight beast, calling people normie before it was a trend
I have really been enjoying this series, Ox! It’s a great background to grading papers and doing dishes. Thanks for making this!
Oxhorn, whenever I have a bad day I watch your videos. Your videos make me forget about reality and allows me to really get into Fallout. Thank you for helping me cope with my messed up life Oxhorn
The hunched over beings are probably Atlas from Greek mythology. Atlas was known for holding the world on his back.
32:28 Well there are non-feral glowing ones, Jason Bright for example.
I can’t understand how any long time fan of something can justify a change in pre-established canon by someone other than the original creators and just accept it merely bc they paid for it. I don’t think it’s right, and that it is a clear sign of disrespect when what has already been written and established in a long running series is suddenly declared “non-canon” when/if someone purchases ownership of that series. The new owners did not create the story, and (at least in regards to a fictional universe that is meant to be expanded on continuously) are simply expected by the established fans to only continue that story, not disregard anything previously established to replace it with something else entirely. The creator(s) had an much more complete picture of the world they created and know it better than anyone else. What upsets me most is when the new owners claim to be “fans” and then have no issues with discarding a piece of what they supposedly love. Imagine someone claimed they loved the Mona Lisa and purchased it in order to add to it; people would assume they would make Lisa a part of a much larger overall piece, more background, other people next to Lisa, etc... but then they decide her smile needs to be showing teeth... is this person really a fan? If they turned it into say, part of a family portrait, yet kept every part of the original, it’d be much easier for everyone to be on board (especially if the original was meant for this purpose). This is just an example, but I hope it makes sense. The Fallout Bible should be the foundation for Bethesda to build on, not rewrite. At least this is my personal view in regards to Bethesda and Fallout as well as Disney and Star Wars. Both very current examples of new owners overstepping unspoken boundaries.
Yeah I agree especially with the whole disney star wars thing. Because what is now legends has some really cool stuff in it. And they could be using that but they are not. Well technically the force awakens has kylo ren which could be a reference to one of Han and leas kids I think it was jacen solo. Who turned to the dark side. And became darth caedus. I think that was his sith name.
As a fan of fallout since it’s first release, I’d like to say just how boring it is listening to people argue about what is and isn’t canon. And I can assure you, the majority do not care.
@Crynaotlod we dont care. Lore even irl always changes.
Keep in mind that Fallout 2 was the game that retconned ghouls not needing water, not Fallout 3/4 as others seem to claim.
At 2:51, you say there are no other land vehicles operational in fallout lore, but in Fallout 2, a functioning Chryslus Highwayman is almost central to the plot. There are also a number of land vehicles in Fallout Tactics (though that is only dubiously canon), and in New Vegas, though not confirmed, its heavily implied that the NCR operates a fleet of pre-war army transport trucks (hence why you find them parked throughout McCarran and the Long 15). There's also the implication that raiders know about working motorcycles in Fallout 4 from that Police Academy reference, but that is very debatable.
Plus, the Powder Ganger are used to rebuild the railroad for the trains ^_-
"only dubiously canon" No, Black Isle completely struck FO Tactics from canon as far as my understanding of it goes.
My favorite joke on this channel is him telling us that an enemy is attacking and then him immediately killing it
I love the creepy vibe of fallout 1
I realize now I missed many things in my playthrough whilst in Necropolis. I killed all the supermutants but didn't return to Set for one. I believe I did fix the waterpump (it's been a lóóng time since I played Fallout so my memory is somewhat clouded) to save the ghouls. Man, this is mindblowing how much effort was put into this game! Definitely a cult classic. You are now my go to source for all things Fallout related! Can't believe I just stumbled across your channel. Thanks so much!
The room in the Northwest corner of Level 2, Vault 12, has a locker with 2 rad-x in it.... Not an empty room with nothing. The locker almost looks like a little piece of circuitry on the wall behind the 3 ghouls, easy to miss.
You are seriously my favorite youtuber Ox. I love the fallout universe with all my heart and your channel tickels the fancy just right. Even playing 1&2 by myself is so empty without your commentary. Youre my hero!
Can't tell if Set is Cajun or from the 1970s Hood. Either way, his name sounds Egyptian. So neat!
Fallout 2 has a working car, if you repair it, so the steam truck is not the only land vehicle in fallout-verse.
And its powered by small energy cells
Wasn't it microfusion cells? It's been a few years since I played.
It might not be canon since it was a side quest
Ox, dont forget about the tram and rocket crawler from Broken steel for vehicles, they both work to an extent!
Also the Highwayman from fallout 2
Loving this series. There's a lot of good old games I'll probably never get around to playing through, but I can surely watch you go through it in a summarized fashion like this.
Thanks for posting these old school Fallout episodes. This was the very first computer game that I really got into (this and the original Renegade). It was also then the first computer game that I introduced my Nephew to when he was 14, and I build his first computer for him. I set up our desks next to each other and I started playing Fallout 2 while he played Fallout 1 on his. We often talked about what we were doing and shared the funniest things we came across as we played. We had several inside jokes based on these games and it was some great bonding time...before he turned into a major teenage pain n the ass that is. lol Anyway, I am now 48 and he is in his early 30's, so it is pretty cool to watch these now and to be able to stir up some of these great memories.

Very weird, I thought ghouls didn't need water to survive but I guess that was before Bethesda arranged that
Yep. Betheada does that. Changes inconvenient canon to make quests and plot work easier. Which just feels lazy to me.
+Dekuton Willowtear
It's not really inconvenient, in fact I'd say it'd make more sense what I'm saying was that Interplay had the idea but Bethesda changed it making it a little more logical in lore terms and with games as successful as Bethesda's fallouts I think saying they're lazy is almost laughable
@@nickwash3r3 then laugh. Doesnt bother me one way or another. But not bothering to check if what youre doing conflicts with established canon...including your own IS lazy. Glad you got a chuckle. If you cant laugh at random crap on the internet what can you laugh about
Ox, you're missing out on items. In vault 12 floor 2, in the room where the ghouls attack, you can see an etched rectangle on the wall behind them, a sort or locker I think. That can be opened and it contains items. Those are easily missed and are in almost every vault. They are usually by the vault entrance as well as scattered around the vault.
Thank you Oxhorn! Your videos always keep me enlightened and wanting more from the Fallout universe. Endless stories that always keep the mind guessing
They need to remake these games 👀
Max N. There actually doing a 3D version of fallout
The remakes wouldn't sell good. Most people don't wanna play a old birds eye view game. They probably don't remake the old GTA for the same reasons.
It would take awhile to remake it in a 3D way but I think it would sell, but I rather have a new Vegas remake I think everyone would
Remakes in this style would totally sell well. Wasteland 2,xcom series, and pillars of eternity easily show they WOULD sell. Specially to old school fallout fans. Me personally tho wouldnlove to see fallout 1,2,and tactics released on mobile devices.
No, they should not. They only need to preserved and updated to run on new software.

I personally love the fact that I live irl in the necropolis. Really good to see that almost 200 years from now, a nuclear explosion or 90, and the entire populous being turned into zombies, that the town still looks like shit. God I love Bakersfield
Great video but i thought that ghouls didn't need to drink water
Ghouls need food and water it was already established long before fallout 4 the Billy tbe kid quest is incredibly lore breaking
I think the Billy quest is meant as a reference to Indiana Jones
You forgot to mention the Highwayman you can fix and use in Fallout 2 as an example of working vehicles. Also technically the .223 Pistol is a rifle since its based on Deckard's pistol in Blade Runner and for that prop in the movie they just sawed off a Mannlicher bolt action rifle to pistol size.
23:05 did he just said "Largher one"? 😂 love you ox! ❤
I had a neat thing happen where Ian single handedly kill a super mutant when it was mentioned that he died here
I just played fallout 1 and go to necropolis and fixed the water pump but I didn’t clear out the super mutants and all of my ghoul buddies were wiped 😢
That just means a new playthrough maybe with a different build :D
Ox there are still working vehicles like great war apcs and some tanks anv military trucks u judt cant drive em i fallout 3 vegas and 4
Spacebar ends turn, Enter ends combat. Right-clicking your mouse rotates through "inspect" and "targeting mode" in combat. Also, while in inventory, you can right-click to get an arrow cursor, hold left-click down on various items and you can inspect or use them. So you can use multiple stimpacks while in inventory and reload weapons. Thats why Quick Pockets perk is so awesome. Hope that helps

Dates from the 60's apparently. Probably as "Druggie wierdo!" "Dumb normie!"
