Wings fan here. Just happened to come across this. I am dying over here. Some of the best commentary I’ve ever heard. Unfortunately it’s sad and true. Wings were so much fun to watch. Definitely short on talent in some areas but one thing they didn’t lack was heart. All year they never gave up. Really feel bad for Leafs fans. Watched last nights game and was absolutely blown away by the lack of passion or urgency by the Leafs players….. hang in the Leafs nation. Hopefully it turns around at some point - but you definitely need to break up the boy band

There is no comparison. Lady is always first one into the scrum. Always tough on pucks and opponents, even crossed the line into multiple sussys and it only helps his stature on the team. Always does media availability and especially after losses. He's always accountable to himself and therefore keeps the team accountable.

Well Said Jay Rosehill. Attention Toronto Maple Leafs - Jay Rosehill for President, GM & Coach. A lot of changes need to be made on the team before they are ready to compete in the playoffs. Tavares is too quiet to be captain and leader. Marner needs to go. He's too entitled and self absorbed in his money. Brodie looked horrible falling over on the one goal. Samsonov is too inconsistent. Different coach needed. Is it possible that Calgary could be swayed into trading Markstrom for Marner with different players and picks on both teams?
I turned the TV off after the second period. Glad I did. I got a good sleep.

MLSE is not a real NHL team. They are a 'Sports Entertainment' Corporation. The mission of the Leafs Corporation is to deliver regular season hockey entertainment. Fill all of the seats every night with the help of several 'star' core players. Playoff hockey is a bonus, certainly not an expectation.

I watched last night's game to root for the Leafs, and it was a dreary, confusing night. I am a Ranger fan who was/is hoping to see Toronto play my Rangers for the Eastern Conference. After last night, I don't think it's possible. How does this team play such a lethargic game ? How does Toronto choose THIS game to take a night off ? Where is the fire ?? The son of a friend of mine played triple A hockey against Marner for a few years up to minor midget. Marner was known to be skilled and a chirper and this kid was a D. I remember him saying to me once after playing a game against Marner that Mitch chirps a lot “but he has never beaten me.” When I asked him why not, his answer was simple: “I never watch the puck and always take the body with him, and he doesn’t like that.” Despite Marner’s undeniable skills and vision, it appears that this is simply a character thing. To be fair, it has served him well and filled his bank account quite nicely.

Big-time players show up in big-time games. Paul Kariya was darn near killed by Scott Stevens, comes back in the game and scores a huge goal in the Finals. Steve Yzerman played an entire playoffs on one good knee and led the Wings to a Cup. Mark Messier guaranteed a Game 6 win against the Devils and scored a hatty. There are NO big-time players on the Leafs. None. I'm not even a Leafs fan and even I can see this team is led by stars softer than wet toilet paper.
I talk about the Leafs walking away from Marner and people tell me "you can't let someone like that go for nothing." Um, yes...yes you can.

Marner had like 2 good shifts in the third. He scored when he utilized his strength, which is his speed. He scored because he used his speed. The rest of the game he's just looking for the play to come to him. getting knocked down every shift on the boards or in front of the net, giving up the puck. He is not worth 11 mil, let alone the 11.5-12 mil hes gonna ask for after next year.
Nylander was pretty invisible. Doesnt get in the dirty areas. Tries to solo the play and take a shot and gets blocked. Its predictable.

No sacrifice. Wont take a hit to make a play.
100 ft passes that get picked off.
Power play is predictable and stale.
No determination from most players.
They have to blow up this core.
Keefe needs to be fired. Marner and nylander traded. Maybe even Rielly

From the standpoint of a non-Leafs fan with no emotional involvement in this, that would be dumb. It's highly unlikely, but the Leafs can come back and win this series. It's unlikely, but not impossible. Firing people now won't do anything to make that any more likely.

id love it if they ship out Marner and retain a bunch of his salary then Nylander says "I can't do this here anymore" and demands to be shipped out. Then the Leafs are stuck with Matthews and Tavares and paying retention salary.
Removing Keefe and Marner would improve the situation. Nylander just signed for 8 years he wants to be here.
Agree 100% on Marner. Keefe is a decent coach but doesn't have the guts to really hold anyone accountable or make drastic changes. Willy is staying put cause after Auston, he's the most important guy for them. Tavares will take a discount on next deal and hopefully with the cash saved there and having Marner gone, they get some good D and a goalie to fortify this team.
