Thanks to all the extras that showed up- on and off the ice!
“Hockey Fights”- the newest single from The Town Heroes-is the most Canadian song you’ll hear all year. It’s certainly the only one that mentions Bobby Orr, Fireball whisky, blood, and the Halifax Mooseheads.
While falling for someone at a hockey game as a fight takes place on the ice isn’t the traditional backdrop for a love song, the universal power of connection has no boundaries. Love defies convention and “Hockey Fights" stands tall as an anthem for its ability to blossom in the most unexpected of places.
Infused with horns, fiddle, and lyrical storytelling akin to Jon Prine or Stan Rogers, "Hockey Fights" is an indie-folk romp through a half drunk, hormone fuelled night at the local arena.
"After hearing they were banning fighting in the QMJHL, I wanted to write something to capture the essence of that raw energy and passion in a song," says singer Mike Ryan, reflecting on the inspiration behind it. "There's something special about the intensity of those moments on the ice at a hockey game, and I wanted to celebrate that with the juxtaposition of falling in love in that same setting."
Hockey Fight joins the esteemed tradition of Canadian hockey songs, deeply rooted in working-class culture, nostalgia, and the enduring spirit of camaraderie found in communities across the nation.
Released world-wide May 10th, 2024 it’s the 4th single from The Town Heroes upcoming release SINGIN’.
    LYRICS:
    Hockey Fights
We got all buzzed on Fireball and stumbled to the game
The Moose were playing a French team and I couldn’t pronounce their name
Sun was setting early that October time of year
Leaves had fallen to the ground for the hurricanes to clear
Through the gate, slice of pizza, twelve dollars a drink
Living in the moment’s more expensive than you think
Find our seats, a couple “sorry’s” as we’re squeezing by
They drop the puck, I grab your hand, and look into your eye
ChorusThere were goals and a little blood
But it couldn’t get you off my mind
When they scored and the people buzzed
I was Bobby Orr in Overtime
Hockey fights and falling in love with you
Felt like getting rowdy but I thought to play it cool
Afterall they’re kids out there, butter not act like a fool
Arena was electric and felt the same myself
Kind like I inherited the richest countries wealth
    Bridge
I see the way that this is going
I feel that this is only growing
