  • On 9th April 2018, Porsche works driver and Le Mans winner Neel Jani established a new track record at Spa-Francorchamps in an untamed version of the Porsche 919 Hybrid.
    The Evo lapped the course in 1:41.77 minutes - 12 seconds faster than the race-legal 919 formerly used in LMP1. Here, the Swiss driver tells Autosport what this unshackled lap of Spa felt like and talks us through the functions on his unfeasibly complex steering wheel.

    I read it had a flywheel that spun freely n when you wanted extra power. Then it engaged with the crank shaft to act like a turbo. I think they said it spun around 50,000 rpm to store the energy. N thats why it accelerates the way it does.
    So the flywheel spins at 50,000 rpm. Probably has a differential to prevent destruction. The flywheel drops down to whatever the rpm of the engine is and kers or reversing the diff. The flywheel charges back up to top rpm using excess wasted potential torque. Driven by the electric systems n motors

      @iluvcarz1 Před 5 lety +3

      The car has a 2-liter (2000cc) V shaped 4 cylinder (which means ~500cc per cylinder) engine. If you're talking about how it managed to produce about 720bhp, then it's because it uses race fuel (most likely ethanol, probably E85, since it has a better consistency when combusted), the car is tuned for performance (though I'm not sure about the whole power and torque curve), and obviously it has forced induction. Whether it is only turbocharged or twincharged (turbocharged and supercharged) I'm not sure. Though I never heard a belt whine in the Nordschleife world record footage Porsche provided, so I assume it's only turbocharged.
