Jbl messed up with charge 4.. have them both.. charge 3 is the favorite all across the board.. minus the usb-c .. charge 3 is just more dynamic.. hang on to your charge 3..

I got the Charge 4 for my 16th birthday in december 2018, so I've had it for almost 2 years.
To *this very day* - with a low frequency equalizer - I get impressed by this speaker as if I just unboxed it.
This thing is truly a very, very good speaker and in present day, with the price dropped significantly, it is *absolutely worth it* to get.
I'm still rocking a Charge 2........its dented / scratched up and the battery is starting to go, so this may be my next speaker.
if your speakers gonna end up like that then get a megaboom bro, jbl cant stand as much damage unlike a megaboom

Something worth noting, the charge 3 has voice assist and speakerphone capabilities while the "new and improved" charge 4 does not. That might be a deal breaker to some who use the speaker to answer calls.
I saw this on some Amazon reviews. That's crazy. Much cheaper devices have that.
Thank you for comparing the two. I’ll stick with charge 3. It has two speakers for stereo effect. Charge 4 only 1 speaker so you are stuck in mono land. I don’t like that. Besides, on a scale of 1-10 it only got ONE major go! I don’t like that. Keep up the good work Master review man.

I think not this time for charge 4 its a downgrade for 1 speaker..... unlike charge 3 have 2 speaker. See the teardown. If you have a charge 3 stay on that. Bit its up to you..... nice reviews very deep and clear review...
kpch c I mean you would easily figure it out just by turning it on, our ears can easily hear stereo audio, I mean we were born with stereo audio to detect direction. Unless you have a high absolute threshold/difference threshold, it should be blankly obvious. It is very noticeable and even if you didn’t notice, if you every spilled water on it or took it to the pool you would find out right away. (Not that it’s a bad thing to everyone, but I just prefer stereo audio over mono). Also specs don’t make everything, just because it has a higher voltage speaker doesn’t mean that it is louder or even performs better. A lot of people found this out the hard way after hating on the Xr, specs aren’t everything.

Timothy Gonzalez but he is so right. You can’t tell the difference and honestly the mid range sounds less muddy at higher levels than the Charge 3.

The charge 4 is a bit bigger and has connect+ but you can just upgrade any charge 3 via the wall adapter and the connect app to get connect+ so I don't think it's worth it

One feature that is worth the upgrade JBL connect plus the ability to connect 100 speakers together is a major factor in buying my speakers.

That looks really nice, but I am personally very happy with my XTREME gen 1, I got it for $120 on Cyber Monday of 2017. It was one hell of a steal, I dare you to find a speaker with better bass, volume, and aesthetics.
It look similar to Xtreme and Xtreme 2. I think Xtreme is a better choice for $200 now though

i have both , and after listening for an hour or so, the charge 4 is noticeably better sound, better highs and lows, mid range pretty good, i got mine for 124 at walmart today

I got this around Christmas time last month because the Soundcore flare 2 joint I have doesn't have that auxiliary input which is mandatory for my new Nintendo Switch (non Bluetooth device). Trust me, you want this when you're playing Doom while that heavy metal music is blaring!!!! The apartment folks hate me for it, though!!!!!! 😂😂😂

I Have a Charge 3, had it for about 2 years. I use it everyday but now its getting old, not clear any more. it dies in maybe 2 years now. looking to go bigger then the 3 or 4 I like the boombox. but lets see.

I bought the Charge 3 last Christmas; everyone who's heard it loves the solid sound it produces. For my small apartment, it's plenty loud and clear. The differences between the Charge 3 and 4 are negligible and in my opinion, not worth the extra cash! This is my first time watching your review; it's really difficult to determine, with any amount of authority or accuracy, the sound quality of any device presented in a video; too many variable on the viewer's end! Your choice of music samples left me cold; would have been better with straight up R&B with some vocals in my opinion! A trekkie who loves cats can't be all bad!

Push and hold the Bluetooth and down volume button at the same time for approximately 12 seconds your battery lights will come on and one might be red but you will definitely hear a huge difference in the quality of sound after doing this.

I had a charge 3 FOR two years one speaker was starting to have problems at high volume ,it was still under warranty and I took it to service , after 3 weeks of it being serviced they returned my money and the only reason I won't buy the charge 4 is because it doesn't come with a wall adapter unlike the charge 3 , wall adapter which has fast charging capabilities that also applies to my I phone 8 plus which charges in 3 hours with the wall adapter from the box and in 2 hours with the one from the charge 3, already ordered another charge 3 and waiting to get it !!!!
on my charge 4 i have discovered oddly enough when you have the connect button pushed (the round white circle is on) it sounds louder, i thought it was me, but it does, and a little better too, i guess it ups the outage for it to connect, anyway i leave my connect on all the time, sounds noticeably better chromedaddy123
Honestly I would stick to charge 3, not much different and if the price is cheaper then go for it. I have owned my charge 3 for a year now and honestly the sound and bass is insane. You can check the specs on JBL's website to compare, literally not much different than the battery which is 7500 mAh from 6000 mAh. Features wise its the same too.

Ya my Flip 4 is dope, but for a $24 more, it sounds WAY deeper and louder.

One thing is that of you own a Charge 3 and Flip 4 you get a weird audio compression that affects the highs and mids. It's a bug in the Charge 3's firmware when they updated it to Connect plus. The Charge 4 and Flip 4 on the other hand sound MUCH better together since this bug no longer exists. As for an overall comparison the Charge 4 has way better highs and bass thats more realistic sounding to my ears. It doesn't sound like it's being pushed.

Quick tip install bass booster on ur phone and it makes a speaker sound way better . Only on android
I H all JBL speakers also have bass boosting mode, there’s a big difference of quality when its on.
StormRunner Core that’s no bass boosting mode on JBL speakers it just turns the dsp of and makes it even weaker and also bass boosting on JBL speakers or basicly any if such speakers is use less cause the limiter will still kicking and you won’t get mir Bass it seems like more Bass but that’s cause the mids and highs get turned Down

I like my charge 3 better, it’s louder it has speakerphone it works with voice assistant, yes the charge 4 separates a little bit better but for all of that? All of the 3’s ratings are at least 15% better than that of the 4, in my opinion it seems like the 4 was just designed to be cheaper for the manufacturer because less of the troubles, I mean they didn’t even put a charger in the box with the 4! Oh yeah and the 3’s 2 speaker stereo sound.
2 speaker stereo doesn't really make a difference tho in a package that small and the 4 pretty much sounds better all around.

Hey Flossy I don't quite know what the audio technical term for this is but here's something I really noticed between the two: Some notes, especially the treble on the Charge 4 sounds as if... I guess the best way I could describe it, is that it sounds like if you were to put it on the other side of a wall. It just feels muted in comparison to the 3. Effect of the switch to a mono speaker driver in the Charge 4 maybe? I definitely won't be upgrading because of this. Actually I tend to disagree with you, I think this sound effect would make me buy the 3 first instead of the 4 as a first buy, that one point really bothers me.

I had the charge 4. It is louder, but it actually had less bass. The replaced loudness with with bass. I have a bass enhancer and amplifier on my Samsung Galaxy. The charge 3 takes so much more bass. When I put the charge 4 on full bass and fully amplified the sound. It sound so hollow and shallow. The charge 3 was insane. But the 4, I was so disappointed. But the thing is, the charge 4 has only one 50 mil driver. The charge 3 has 2 20 mil drivers. That's where the difference in sound is. 2 has more bass and better sound instead of one.
