- We've bought quite a line up to this year's Shanghai auto show. The recently launched Polestar 3, and now the next exciting addition to the Polestar range: Polestar 4, the electric SUV coupé. Transformed.

I saw a polestar for the first time the other day driving at night on the highway and I was literally driving next to it for about 15 miles trying to figure out what kind of car it was. Absolutely beautiful 🤩

I cant believe this will be only $60k. I can’t. I’m sure it will be optioned to $72k and that’s fine. These Swedish designs are insanely beautiful.
@@alsius9162 because it will still be less expensive than similarly equipped luxury rivals. If $12k will push it out of your budget, you were never really looking at this range of vehicles anyways because the same happens in the Audi, BMW and Mercedes lines. The Toyota Crown Platinum can come in at $59k, you have to have awareness regarding car prices in general before saying this polestar is overpriced.

Attractive price, but why would someone pay 13k more for base model when the model y base is now at 47k. Just for slightly better interior? The best differentiators are the LiDAR radar and sensor suites, yet it looks to be wasted as Volvo doesn’t seem to have the software to fully take advantage of them for self driving like tesla fsd beyond the standard auto emergency brake
@@onlythebest3311 that’s a good question. It will have to come down to personal preference and real world comfort. If you spend more than 5 minutes in a Tesla you’ll notice the low quality interior issues which really take away from the premium feel. Also, teslas are everywhere, some people will prefer a rarer vehicle though obviously there are diminishing returns on this strategy as every customer buying it for this reason will raise the total number of polestars on the road. The Tesla is also quicker and will remain quicker as they will likely reflash their software any time a competitor gets too close despite its effects on the battery longevity. The LiDAR systems will continue to make driving the polestar easier but no one is going to jump into the extreme side of self driving other than Tesla yet, whether that’s an actual benefit is yet to be seen as there’s plenty of controversy surrounding Tesla’s success around self driving. Finally, the 4 will likely be produced in South Carolina at some point, allowing it to qualify for the same tax credits Tesla is using so prices should move closer. We might be too far away from Q3 2024 to know if Polestar will successfully take market share off of Tesla but even comparable sales to their current output would likely be enough to be labeled a success for the company. We will have to wait to see.
@@onlythebest3311 It's not just a better looking interior. It really depends on what you value. If you like best tech, then Tesla is it. If you want solidity, handling from former race car tuners, more attention paid to NVH, then Polestar is your choice.

It shares platform with another Chinese car Zeekr 001 and the polestar is smaller. My single motor Zeekr can do well over 600km with its 100kwh battery (almost pushing 700km), if not too hot/cold

Agreed. If polestar is anything like it's parent company Volvo, the real world numbers will be even weaker than the official numbers. As a Volvo owner for more than a decade, I have never hit combined fuel figure projections. I only put up with it because I have been hit several times and the car is an absolute unit. Lets see what comes out.
@@user-uj9zy5iq6h Polestar is not a Chinese car. Zeekr001 was designed in Sweden (Geely Design Gothenburg) and the interior is catered toward the Chinese market. But that interior of the Polestar and the team designing and tuning Polestar come from the Swedish base of Polestar. I understand Polestar doesn't even sell all that well in China. But yes, it is based on a Zeekr001 and a lot of brands will use the SEA platform which was incidently, chiefly engineered by Swedish engineer Kent Bovellan who knows works for Geely.
I wanted one when it was announced a month ago. After seeing this video, I want one even more. Mars lighting all the way. The car is just so beautiful and well featured.

This really isn't an SUV. It's called that because car buyers have this unnatural thing for SUVs and they sell way better than sedans. But this is a tall hatchback sedan. This is a sedan, not SUV, shape.
@@benjaminsmith2287 agreed, I see this more as a fastback like the Lexus UX. It was built as a hatch with a lower ground clearance but rides like a sedan. The only reason vehicles like this are called "SUV" -coupes is because they do some "things" a SUV is able to provide.

So no rear window. A camera in its place. So when water gets on the camera from rain, what is in place to clear the camera?
Is the panoramic roof double paned or is there an option for a standard roof? As everyone knows glass allows more external noise in to the cabin than a regular roof
Cameras have the same limitations as the human eye, and may be impaired by adverse weather conditions such as heavy snowfall/rain, dense fog, or snow etc. If these systems temporarily stop functioning, we advise drivers to use the side mirrors.
The panoramic roof comes as standard on Polestar 4, however, our specially designed laminated glass reduces UV radiation and road noise, while maximising incredible wide-angle views.

@@PolestarCarsthanks for the response. Regarding the rear facing camera doesn’t make sense. It is a great idea but the water can’t be cleared where as a rear windscreen wiper can clear the window and water of the rear window doesn’t completely fuzz out vision but water on a camera lens does and as someone in an industry that relies on cameras in this same way this is a great flaw we are striving to address and I hope this is something Polestar rectifies in the near future.
The car is still quite amazing in other aspects.
I personally am holding out for the Polestar 5 and can’t wait for its full reveal and will most likely placing an order for a 5 when it becomes available in Aus.

Good job with the details as is usual with Polestar. But I hope Polestar will stay with their own designs shared with Volvo in future cars. This car obviously is different in having a landscape center screen inside and uses some Zeekr001 switchgear and parts and some shared with Volvo. The basic car is heavily based on the Zeekr001. The 3 (and 5 and 6) show the smart zone in front and a lot of shared safety features from Volvo, it's obviously in the Polestar/Volvo lineage. I understand Polestar wanted to get this car out fast and basing it on a CEVT car enabled that. And it does use Polestar's materials but doesn't have Volvo designed seats in it. So, I'm mixed on it. Positive on the great job you did and how attractive you made the design. But not as happy that it inconsistent with the other Polestars.

Polestar 2 is an awesome car, but too expensive and not built in enough quantities to be a truly mass market car. Polestar unfortunately are consigning themselves to a niche market if they don't aim for a ramp up of production and a bringing down of costs.

Polestar needs to get their build quality under control before the prices are justified. Design and driving experience is awesome, but my polestar 2 is riddled with quality issues not OK at this price.

The safety DNA we share with Volvo Cars is applied to Polestar 4 as well, and it's designed to the same extremely high standards. We'll share more information when possible, but we expect a 5-star safety rating on this car as well ⚡️

Polestar 2 scored a 5-star rating not only by Euro NCAP, but also with the NHTSA crash testing in the US, which includes rollover protection.
Do the cameras record video?
Polestar 4 has a dashcam that operates uniquely from standard dashcams. It activates solely through the infotainment screen, recording in 5-minute loops. Privacy consent is required before recording starts, making it distinct from traditional third-party dashcams.

What country is made this car?
Depends on what you mean by "made." Sweden is where Polestar designs cars. Most of the cars are manufactured in China. I would say this is a Swedish car but some insist if it is made in China it is Chinese. I reject that as lots of Western products are made in China but aren't Chinese products. This car is based on a car designed in Sweden, the Zeekr 1 but the Zeekr 1's interior design is more designed for the Chinese market. This is more of a Scandinavian design adaption of the design.
@@benjaminsmith2287 it's use the same SEA platform with Zeeker 001, and SEA platform is from geely, so basically it's Chinese inside and Swedish for the exterior And interior design.
@@HenryR-fh8ev Kent Bovellan was chief engineer on the SEA platform. Geely uses Swedish and some international engineers. So, while he may be based in China now with Geely, there still is a good amount of Swedish input in the car.
Polestar 4 is designed and developed by our Swedish R&D and engineering teams together with Geely Research Institute in Sweden, UK and China.

With replacing the rear mirror how do you expect parents to look after their childs on the rear seats?
For visibility, the rear-view mirror is a high-definition screen that shows a live camera feed from the roof of the car, but it can be switched to a traditional mirror if the driver needs to see the rear occupants for any reason 🙌
The new Volvo XC60 should look similar in proportion and silhouette.

Polestar 4 will be featuring a semi-active suspension in the dual-motor version for an additional layer of adjustment between comfort and performance dynamics.
I love polestar, it has a great design but more important to me is that driving it is much better than a Tesla. I think Tesla has only a slightly advantage in their applications and how well it is integrated

It's still too low though. It's EV6 height. That's why we skipped it for an Xpeng G9, which is much more luxurious to boot.

The 3 is based on a Volvo. The 4 is not. And only some Volvo dealers service Polestars.
