The last episode absolutely broke me. From Dex sobbing in his bedroom, talking with ghost Emma, and the flashbacks, coupled with the INCREDIBLE score, it was just so perfect!
RIGHT! every moment was sob worthy
😭
Series Dex was wayyyyyy better than book Dex. Book Dex was a walking red flag, Emma was too good for him there.
100% book dex was insufferable for most of the book. series emma also is better too imo because book emma was too much of a pushover and let dex do things mostly without any repercussions
I have not read the book or seen the movie. My intro to One Day was THIS series! And now knowing what happens in the book post Emma....I'm soo glad the series took another direction for the ending! I love that they highlighted Dexter eventually moving on without the distraction of another romance.
Emma's death scene is gut wrenching and geniusly filmed by the director cause they showed Em's last seconds of her life, seeing herself as a young girl in "flashback-style". Its the exact same technique that were used in the most epic/emotional death scene in movie history - in the movie Armageddon (1998). with all that soundtrack score elevating it to perfection, that scene in Armageddon is unmatched (without spoiling too much for those of you who haven't seen the movie yet ; )
No show has ever emotionally damaged me this much 😭 I was still crying like 2 hours after
we're crying in the clerb huh
The best therapy is rewatching it again and again...and again. I'm feeling a lot more stable now 😂
ONE DAY is something i never asked or searched for but ended up realizing I truly admire it and would not wanted to miss it ever for the rest of my life.
damn props to you for being able to do that without breaking down each time
Im just watching people cry watching this validating my emotions
yesss we're all crying together
The book fan here. When I first started, ep. 1 and 2 were a bit slow, I didn't connect instantly. As the series progressed, I just fell in love. Last ep.: me drenching in tears like half an hour after the titles were finished. PERFECT. All the changes were for the better, I fell in love with this Dexter, all the arcs were perfected. The show is now on the pedestal right next to Normal people.
YESS i'm glad as a book lover you loved the changes! it's always so dicey when they stray away from adaptations and how people receive it, but totally agree with everything you said
This series was as close to perfect as I have ever seen. I'm so glad I was unfamiliar with the story. At the end of Ep. 13, I really thought she would survive - maybe become paralyzed or wind up in a coma with Dexter staying by her side struggling to cope. Even at the beginning of Ep. 14, I didn't immediately realize it was a flashback. I don't think I actually cried until after I'd watched the whole thing - I think I was in shock - but I can't stop thinking about it. The screenplay, the direction, set design, costumes, score and of course - the acting - all award worthy! Leo and Ambika were so natural - their chemistry was palpable, and in the early episodes you couldn't help disliking Dex while feeling sorry for him at the same time. Emma could always see his good side, his potential, and thank god she chose to remain friends while maintaining a platonic relationship until he was ready. The scene where they finally got together - and Dexter sobbing alone in his bedroom after her death - omg - those two scenes moved me beyond words. The ending too was perfect. Of course his old substance abuse demons come back to haunt him, but fortunately so does Emma. In the end you know that he is ready to move on, but you also know he will never forget her.
yes all of this! so well said everything about the series was perfect
@@justhana4779 Thank you 💞💞💞
This series was pure emotional damage and permanent pain. lol
Did you catch that at the shop before Dex left to meet Emma at the new house he said bye to the worker at the bakery and her name was Maddy? I’m sort of happy they didn’t really introduce her character but it was an Easter egg to book readers.
And in the last episode when he arrives back in Edinburgh he should be 40 years old and it just makes me so sad that the night he was in Edinburgh with Emma she said “What do you want to be when your forty?” And he’s like “not forty…” and it’s sad because Emma never made it to 40 :(
i did see the maddy easter egg! also happy that they did not include that arc in the show because it would have imo diminished everything they built up with dex's arc and dex and emmas story from the show
YEAH I THINK ABOUT THAT A LOT kjfsadflk
I had seen the 2011 film and read the book before watching this. Did not expect to be so blown away by it but I was. The last episode broke me but was so well done. The 2 leads were perfect as their characters, film Dex wasn’t likeable at all, but Leo Woodall’s Dex is. Well done to Ambika Mod for nailing the Leeds accent. Have also enjoyed watching your reaction videos!
omg i'm scared to watch the movie version now sdlkfjsdf but i guess that's in line with book dex haha and glad you enjoyed the videos!
@@justhana4779 I haven't read the book. One Day Show on Netflix was my first introduction to the story.
Out of curiosity i watched the movie afterwards...and the movie is not bad bad, but oh boy!! It can NOT compete with the show at all !
Even though Anne Heathaway stars in the movie and 1 or 2 other popular actors/actresses.
Don't know if you noticed but on the climb to Arthur's seat with Jazz there were yellow flowers everywhere when he climbed it with Emma there were no flowers Emma was wearing a yellow top on the climb same colour as the flowers also she had a red hair tie, so did Jazz.
Wow what?? never noticed that. I guess i gotta watch it a 4th time now :D
OMG WAIT WHAT I NEVER NOTICED THAT EITHER dkfjassdfsd
@@8jay56m7a8t9t0 I didn't either, was the second time watching that I noticed.
@@justhana4779 Yes I spotted it second time round.
Man I don't want this Show to end.😢 I got me all the soundtrack score Songs that are here on CZcams.
Best tracks in my opinion:
-"Falling Colour" by Vanbur.
-"In Cold Light" by Vanbur.
I got it on replay along with the other good songs from the Show. Puts you in that indescribable mood everywhere you are. 😊
ayee a good playlist is always the move
Me too 😁
Somebody's put a mix together from the series on Tidal streaming service called "One Day Netflix soundtrack". If anyone subscribes to it. Some superb music on there.
I went into this show knowing NOTHING. I just saw Leo Woodall and gave it a chance... My god did I sob at the end.
i would be worried if you didn't sob tbh
This series devastated me in so many ways. I have not read the book, but I did see the movie years ago. This series was a masterpiece. I have recently watched it for a second time, and it still devastated me. This, more than any other drama has been etched onto my heart. Watching your tears set me off again lol.
we can all cry together!
the way just this reaction video made me start sobbing again 😭 the effect this series has on me is astounding and should probably be studied lol. i have never cried more in my life than i did watching that last episode 💔
we're in it together at least
19:22 "i literally cried 80% of this episode"
I'm a 49 year old grown ass man and i'm still crying 2 months after watching this series! Literally once a day i think about how this story paralleled my life and i will have a cry anywhere from 10 seconds to most of the day! 😢😢😢
The series exceeded my expectations 😢
LOL I laughed when you said you were underwhelmed emotionally… the payoff in this show is soooo good!
LMAO listen
This show was absolute perfection. Leo and Ambika were amazing as Emma and Dexter. I fell in love with their on screen chemistry and banter 🥺 Even when Dexter was in his douchebag phase, it was so hard to hate him and couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. My heart literally melted at the way Dexter spoke and looked at Emma. Ughhhh I’m obsessed with them! They will prob be my fave show couple of all time 😭 I hope they do more movies together!
same!! i really hope they do a happier rom com together or anything together because their chemistry is chefs kiss
GURL I'm waiting for this from you!!!
it's here!
Such an amazing ep 14 loved it
ep 14 was everything 💖
I Watched the Series twice (Im a glutton for punishment) then have just finished reading the book. I would say that the people who produced the show where geniuses. Casting Leo and Ambika for a start. Ambika especially that ferocity, that intelligence, simply beautiful and that soundtrack throughout from the 80s onward was like a timestamp in my life. Great reaction btw loved it x.
I never read or knew this was a book. But I watched these last two episodes after half a bottle of wine and I don’t remember the last time I sobbed this hard.
book is def not necessary to enjoy the show! you’ll cry either way 😥
12:17 literally me the entire scene! Lmaoo I was in tears pleading for him to take the shoes off.
This ending…I don’t even know what else to say that I haven’t and you and the comments haven’t already expressed. But FUCK! Why?! 😅😢
I think One Day fans need to do a group therapy. I’m not even sure Reddit can save this pain 😅
we really do need it cause how dare they hit us with that many emotions!
ALSO LMAO GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THE SHOES HAHA
Loved the last episode. It's not the same thing, but I just lost my dog of 13 years. So this episode was really hard..
And I'd like to add, the scene where he's sitting on the floor and Jeff Buckley starts playing... such an amazing surprise ❤
awe i'm sorry for your loss! losing a pet is hard too
I am destroyed. Thank you for this. 😭 you've brilliantly reviewed this series. 🎉
thank you!
Ghostttt Emmaa😂 made me laugh while ugly crying😂😅
LOL it be like that
This limited series was truly stunning! Leo & Ambika, absolutely an iconic pairing! Your reaction did make me cry as well as following the story again, especially the bit when you were saying Em was Dex's rock and he saw his future with her, plus their friends and family rallying around Dex for Em 😭 It's sooo sad that we hear the line about them growing up together in the wedding speech prep while omitting about them growing old together😭
I KNOW THE WEDDING SPEECH HITS SO DIFFERENT AFTER KNOWING WHAT HAPPENS sdlkjfasdf
this show WRECKED me
I have never been so disappointed at the ending of a show ever. It was builing into a beautifull crescendo with the penultimate episode finally gettting them together and then in the last episode, she gets run over on her bike in the rain and dies? So deflating and disappointing. Last episode: finding out that she could never have children and breaking up, meeting up again to have a beer together, getting drunk and having sex. Next scene realizing that she was pregnant and cut to final scene with them back on Hampsted heath on a picnic blanket with their child, pan out to credits. What a beaufull ending that would have been. What were they thinking ending it this way?
they were thinking that this is not how life operates, we live life day to day with the exact expectations you have described out of what you believed the perfect ending would have been, life is unpredictable, no one is exempt from it, and that is what makes it so beautiful. The author/showrunners masterfully displayed how a perfect life can come crashing down in one day, however this is not reason to forget about the moments that caused us to feel and experience that love, and that normal ordinary people are so much more powerful than they realize, that we can experience such loss and pain, but still find the strength to eventually move ahead.
Bro I just cried so hard I got a nose bleed 😭😭
The tragedy part sort of gave me Queen Charlotte vibes. IYKYK..Great review!!
Its funny watching ep 2 knowing that Leo had food poisoning irl during filming lol also Ambika is a beautiful young woman 😊
lmaooo i was thinking that too prob why he's selling the hungover look so well
The series should stop when she leaves in the rain, everything after that really broke my heart. 😭😭
Loved your raw reactions to this story. My conclusion is that this was always to be Dexter's story. I recall Emma asking what he saw himself at age 40. Love how the story wasn't one sided, we got to know and love both of them together and apart. I felt Dexter fell in love with her first, but timing wasn't right for either. Dexter came across to me as being very a sensitive person, even though at times he acted like a complete jerk. Emma seemed self assured in the being but that was a facade. They both had to grow into their own. The end was so heartbreaking and bittersweet. That last kiss top 10. Bravo to Ms Mod and Mr Woodall, they should have a great future. PS: I loved Tills too.
yes to all of this! totally agree
I think the third "layer" vibe is The fault in our stars. I think it was reminiscent in a way.
ooh i could see that or me before you type vibe too
he gets together with maddy in the book?? but how can the writter write an ending like that ?
yeahhhh he does 🙈
Girl stop crying because you have me bawling my eyes out on a chokehold 💀💀😭😭😭

that's the plan! just gotta work up the courage to get emotionally wrecked by the movie haha

Watch the movie now that you’ve also seen the show
New subscriber here. Maybe you already watched it, but I highly recommend “Heartstopper”. Keep up the great content.
thank you! i have seen heartstopper but it's on my que to make reaction videos too since i'm a big fan of the graphic novels too!
i read the book, mainly because of your first reviews comparing it to the series. I found the book underwhelming and the series infinitely better. Really disliked maddy, but loved how they ended the same with the kiss.
the series is 100% better but i like how the book gives context to certain things and an inside look into their thoughts during certain time periods like his letter to her in india (even though he never sent it fsadjf)
@@justhana4779That letter was endearing, and made book Dex better (and he had lots of room to be better), but the longing that that letter conveys is done better by Leo Woodall in his heart eyes and moments like the phone call she doesn’t pick up or stalking her at the wedding.
@@justhana4779 i understand your point though. Some of the descriptions in the book are so sweet. Like how the last kiss is described the sweetest they’d both would ever know. the added context is enriching. it’s just series em and dex are so much better, and i saw them before i read the book, so the book had a lot to live up too that it didn’t, to me.
13:52 Tilly betrayal?? What what tell me more
it wasn't a betrayal in major way but in the book tilly and dex had sexual relations when emma was living with tilly and dex was waiting for emma to come back.
but to be fair in the books it didn't really seem like tilly and emma were all that close like they are in the show, so it makes sense that they nixed that in the series
Pls react to love 101 !! ❤
Dont understand the obsession with his shoes, I know shoes on bed is a no no but really?? The condition hes in shoes would be my last thought
The 3rd show you’re looking for is From Scratch
ooh i've never seen that show!
