The interview took place in 1978 as she was releasing her comeback album It Begins Again which featured the single A Love Like Yours.
Please note that the original recording was of poor quality and we have done our best to repair and salvage what we can to make it as audible as possible. You may find that parts of it are easier to hear if you wear headphones. Please stick with it as we hope you will find that it gives a fascinating insight into Dusty's life. She never hid her sexuality even in the sixties x she was just Dusty with a huge fantastic voice xx and I’m very proud she is one of our great British singers xx
RIP angel. Your private life is your business. Always remembered and loved and missed. Gone to soon.
You've said this already. It's important for LGBT people to be visible, no matter if it makes straight people uncomfortable.
Dusty Springfield was out and proud 👏.
Thank you . .thank you . thank you so much. This is absolute treasure for us Dusty's fans. Thanks a lot. I really mean it.
Dusty Springfield was one of the greatest vocalist if not the greatest of our time. She gave us more than enough of herself through her recordings, live performances, interviews. She came out at age 30 when it could end your career big time. It may have been part of the reason that her career was basically dead for 20 years afterwards. Although, she persisted with cranking out LP's during that time non-the-less. She told the interviewer in 1970 "I could be swayed by a girl just as much as a boy." That was revealing. But no, she was asked over and over and over again. One time point blank on live television. The woman had more patience than she was given credit for. The public is never satisfied.
louise roman a
louise roman boy you sure are making the rounds. Why are you trolling dusty springfield pages with this horseshit she was bisexual when she clearly lesbian. She never once had a significant relationship with man,she also said in one interview that she has to force herself to like men, bisexual wouldn't have tp.force themselves to like the opposite gender, she was married to a woman, which 84% of bisexual women end with men. She was 100% lesbian period
louise roman you just don’t want to deal with the reality. She has long term live in girlfriends. Why is knowing that an issue for you?
@@nadinebrown7644 you seem to know Dusty better than she knew herself...were you there inside her head?....knowing her every thought?..in every bedroom she occupied?...your little rant reveals everything about you........those preoccupied with Dusty's sexuality a quarter of a century after she passed...should really get a life.
She was a good vocalist. Very talented, and drawing from the vocal styles of the Motown era. So did many covers of black vocalists. So I think you are exaggerating a bit.
Her life her business. Let the classy lady RIP. Love and miss you Dusty.
Rest in power! Dusty is a Gay Icon, why are you trying to make it sound something terrible? The fact she was gay is another big 2 fingers up at boring straight culture.
Another straight person telling someone who is LGBT to be silent.
I agree totally betty martinez
Dusty Springfield was the 1st same sex celebrity to get married to a woman. She was a proud trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ Community! She was out and proud for years!👏 🏳️🌈
Thanks so much for posting sir, this rare gem is very much appreciated by those of us who loved, and will ALWAYS continue to love Dusty. She was ALL OF THAT!!! By the way, I've been hearing a rumor for YEARS that Nicole Kidman would star as DUsty in a biopic movie of her life, do you know whatever happenned to that?
thank you SO much for this! absolutely fascinating insight into a great talent who clearly thought and felt very deeply. i'm just a fan of that beautiful voice, but now i really feel like i know something about the woman too. knighthoods should be given to everybody involved in this upload...
Thank you so much for your kind words. Greatly appreciated and loved :)
you're very welcome William. this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that YT is for. you've shared something very special here...
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much Frans :)
+William Brougham thankyou so much for uploading this great interview
+Samlad2001 Thank you so much :)
+William Brougham No problem 😊
I see now where Adele big hair and heavy make up come from, it is homage to Dusty!
Probably
Gay,with a GREAT VOICE ❤
When are they going to make a movie of her life. It would be very interesting dont you think? Success, drama, tragedy, it would have it all dont you think? But who could play her, voice and all?
Not nicole kidman! Lucy boytan is supposed to be Marriane faithful in a biopic. But i have no idea who could play Dusty but would love to see it.
Frankly? I'd like to see Pink give it a roll. I seriously think that Pink could do it.
Yes, good choice as She did a perfect Sinead O'Connor the other night with Brandi Carlile on her rendition of Nothing can compare. Amazing! 🙀
She sounds quite animated and rather smart. Did she do well in school ? Was she known for her intelligence? I feel anyone who can deliver the songs the way she did so impeccably has to be quite intelligent. Her sense of humor may have saved her from the bad times in L.A.
Thank you for uploading this. It is very difficult to understand certain portions, is there a transcript?
Thank you so much. The transcript is on its way :)
William Brougham
Wonderful, thank you!
William Brougham Is the transcript complete? If so, could it be added to the video description? Thanks for the upload!
fang Paddy
Hello there, yes I now have the transcript and will add it to the description this week. Thank you so much :)
William Brougham I appreciate doing so won't have been easy (having transcribed a 90 minute interview myself in the past, and that one I could hear clearly - it's not fun that's for sure!) So thanks again :)
Can't make it out, poor sound quality. Can tell it is Dusty's voice speaking. That's about all.
As I sad if I 've never met miss o'brien,i guess she protected her privacy
It sounds unbelievable but I didn't know dusty was gay until after she was dead and buried.
me either
If that's true so what! I don't think anyone's singing ability has any role at all in their private life she should not have been hounded by the press for why she cared for anyone! It wasn't any of their business! But anything to sell a story and make a buck!😢
W moim sercu na wietrznośc ❤ Była Jest i Będzie w ludzkiej pamięci ❤❤❤
Thank you the greatest ever loved and missed
Sound is low
This is hard to understand. Is there a transcript of this interview?

Why does it matter who she felt close to? You're bringing up matters that were no one's business but Dustys! It has nothing to do with her singing ability! Let her rest in peace and thank God for her beautiful music!
