    Detroit, Troy Weaver, and the front office completely mismanaged that team so I don't think they are a good cautionary tale in tanking. Also, Houston stopped tanking because they didn't own their picks the next 3 years thanks to the Russell Westbrook trade. Orlando seems to be a better anti-tanking example. All of this said, I think the Jazz should tank in this next draft because of how many top prospects are there. Even if you don't get Cooper Flagg, the consolation prizes would still be difference makers.

    Keyonte should be spending his Summer in the gym. If not he should immediately be on the chopping block. Keyonte is smart and realizes that if he spends the summer busting his butt he will grow as a player and confidence. He can really make a huge improvement. If he is too lazy he is not right for the Jazz Butt I am 98% that Keyonte understands this

    Okay... I appreciate your honesty about your goals for our team not aligning with the 'championship or bust' mentality, but here's an honest follow-up question: Why should I continue to come here for Jazz info, knowing you're risk averse, settling for the pleasure of the ride over the potential sweetness of victory? Really asking. I'm somewhat surprised to hear you admit this. Where's the mamba mentality? Where's the Jordan killer instinct? Were you not there when Stock and Malone's fingers slipped from the precipice of victory? And if you were, how were you able to come that close, as a Jazz fan, only to settle back into a pursuit of mediocrity? Ending up in the top 4 and crossing your fingers for an injury, believing the misfortune of someone else is the only hope we have, is the most pathetic, disheartening thing I've ever heard you say. Tell me I misunderstood your point, sir... Please!

      where is a mamba mentality in losing on purpose for many years? nuggets didn't tank and won the title.
      hornets, on the other hand showed plenty of mamba mentality and keep showing it year after year after year.

    I think you don’t need to trade Lauri to bottom out. Trade Sexton, Clarkson, Collins this summer keep Lauri. Luck into the top 3 (that team is a bottom 3 team) and draft Flagg/Bailey/whitcome/etc next draft. Then use 5-6 picks next summer to get a third star to pair with the pick and LM. Then hope Keyonte, Hendricks, and Kessler and 10 this season fill out the roster.

      @malaw514 Před měsícem +1

      I don’t think Lauri is interested in staying if we bottom out.

    Nikola Jokic was 44th in the draft. Seems to me there could be hidden gems that are out there. Karl Malone was 13th. Many Eastern Europeans are hungry to succeed and will have no problem working to get better.

    • @zach5381
      @zach5381 Před měsícem +3

      Jokic was the biggest steal in NBA history. It's true that it's possible but very very rare. In reality, all the teams that were in the final four of the playoffs got there with top 3 pick talent.

  • @imnotmike

    I just have to say. I'm hanging by a thread here. I'm on the verge of checking out already. I don't know if I can get interested in another Jazz season, no matter how good they are. I'm very disillusioned by this team. And my problem is, we don't keep our stars. I just don't see the point of rooting for a team that has no loyalty to their stars, and I don't see the point of watching a league where the stars have no loyalty to the team, and by extension, their fans. These players care nothing about the fans. They think they're entitled to us. They expect our devotion without giving any in return.
    If we trade Lauri, I don't think I'll ever watch another Jazz game.
    We went through that whole disastrous thing with Deron Williams and Jerry Sloan. And that happened at a really bad time in my life. It was tough. A lot of bad things happened to me, and at the same time, for the first time since I started watching, the Jazz got really bad. And Boozer jumped ship. And Memo ended his career on a heartbreaking injury. And then we traded away Kirilinko.
    Then Gordon Hayward. People were mad when the Jazz drafted Hayward, and I defended him, saying give the guy a chance. The Jazz do pretty good with their picks, let's see what they see in him. And then the minute he made an all star team, he left. I never liked Ricki Rubio, and we got Rubio just to make Hayward happy, and then Hayward left anyways, and we were stuck with a guy who couldn't shoot for nothing. And when that happened, I was pretty much ready to call it quits, because it felt like small market teams just can't keep stars. And it's not like he was some city boy who wanted to get back to the city nightlife he was used to. He was a country boy from Indiana, but he still wanted to go play in a big market.
    And then with all the disastrous things that have happened to OKC and the Pelicans, losing phenomenal stars to big markets again and again and again. OKC literally drafted MVPs in three consecutive seasons, and never won a championship. That's unconscionable. It's utterly disastrous for the league. AD basically just refused to play for the Pelicans, and they had no choice but to trade him.
    And after Hayward left, I decided I was done. That was the first summer since I was 8 years old that I didn't follow what happened in the offseason.
    And then my nephew asked me some time the next year about the Jazz and I told him I had given up on the NBA because small market teams just can't keep stars. And he started telling me about this rookie Donovan Mitchell. And he got me kinda hyped up. And I said that he'd probably do the same thing as Hayward and just leave when he got good enough to compete. But he assured me Donovan liked it in Utah and wanted to be here for his whole career.
    So I got sucked back in.
    And then what happened. I remember seeing my nephew the day after the Rudy Gobert trade and how depressed he was. And of course Donovan followed, just like I had predicted 5 years earlier.
    But then we got Lauri Markkanen, who I absolutely loved, even before his breakout season. I had openly said many times that if we could get Lauri Markkanen, we would win a championship. To me, he was the missing piece for that Jazz team. Of course, they tore apart the team, so that wasn't happening. But still, we had a guy I loved who I'd wanted to get for years. That was something at least.
    But let's be real. What's going to happen?
    You're all talking about giving up 5 years to have a 5% chance to win a championship. And that's your good case scenario.
    Dude, there are 30 teams in the league. In 5 years, we should have a 16.7% chance to win a championship if the odds are god damn flat even.
    So you're saying that if we suffer through five years of hell, maybe we'll have roughly a third of the chance that we should have to win a championship if the league were fair.
    Why are we watching this, when it's so openly stacked against us, and when we don't ever keep any players, so I don't even have anybody to root for?
    I was okay with John and Karl not winning a championship, because they stayed in Utah for 20 years, so I at least had that bond where I felt connected to them. John Stockton came to my elementary school and taught dribbling drills to the kids there. And he was still around until the end of his career. I loved that guy.
    But now, we get nothing.
    We don't get to have any players to bond with. Bond with a player, you get your heart broken.
    We're never winning a god damn championship. It's not going to happen. Even if we draft three consecutive MVPs in three consecutive drafts, it won't help. We've seen how that plays out.
    The league is openly rigged for LA, and nobody seems to care.
    Even when the team is good, watching all those game is a big time commitment that's hard to do.
    We're never going to win, and we're never going to keep any players around, so I won't even have anybody to root for over the years, so what's the freaking point?

    I think that not trading Lauri to a contender is not fair to Lauri. I think that we could get a player like a Jonathan Kumminga or GG Jackson. This draft we need to get both Castle and Edey or we need to get out.

    The jazz need to tank, to win an nba championship you need a top 5 player in the nba with a great surrounding cast. We have a chance to get top picks in the upcoming years, let’s at least rank for three years and then start to build around the amazing young core we will have at that point

    “Big game hunting”. Is lip service from Ainge and smith. It keeps Lauri happy because he wants to win now, it keeps Lauri’s value high because it shows the jazz want to win with Lauri…. But big game likely isn’t available and Lauri probably gets traded over the next year.

    This idea we need to be at top 5 only way to build seems lazy. Bucks did their job when they got Giannis at #15, Warriors drafted Draymond at#30, Spurs got Tony Parker #30 or something (Jazz had chance to get him but got stupid pick on Raul Lopez). Its about to recognize how important scouts jobs are. Jazz once were #3 and got Enes Kanter.

    • @michelekate8567
      @michelekate8567 Před měsícem

      Duncan (#1 pick) and Curry (lottery pick) were the ones to lead the Warriors and Spurs to all those championships. The Bucks and Nuggets did get lucky landing Giannis/Doncic later in the draft but they were unknown international prospects at the time. Maybe Jazz can get lucky with a later pick who becomes the face of the NBA but the teams who went furthest in this year's playoffs (Celtics, Mavs, Minn) drafted their main guys high in the lottery.

    Consensus for 2024 NBA DRAFT IS meh. Consensus for 2025 is that it is a blockbuster draft. Can you explain why highly desired 2025 guys are not entering the draft in 2024? Is it because league rules don’t allow them (too young)? If so how can anyone know that NEXT year’s 19 year olds are slam dunk superstars?!?

    Seems to me, the Millers had it right, they did everything they could to be competitive. Larry Miller was always pushing management to surround Stockton and Malone with talent. In many Jazz fans minds, the team actually won two championships, until they were tampered with by officials and the NBA Pro-Wrestling inspired outcomes. Being competitive is what Jazz fans want, we have seen the mixed up dark side of chaotic tanking and we want no part of it.
