    3) The 2015 modified DeLorean

    When old Biff steals the time machine to change the past, he returns the Delorean back to 2015 so Doc and Marty would suspect nothing. He should instead have arrived in the alternate version of 2015 just like Marty and Doc went to the alternate 1985. No explanation is given as to why he can return to the unaltered time-line while Doc and Marty can only get to alternate versions of the time-line.

    • @joshua_luther
      @joshua_luther Před 4 lety +38

    • @TheZProtocol
      @TheZProtocol Před 4 lety +117

      I did too.......but this can be explained within the BTTF universe. Changes take a bit to happen as shown that Marty didnt immediately dissappear the moment he knocked his father out of the way for example. These ripples take "time" for it to reflect in the future so.....in theory....if Biff was quick enough he could have returned back to 2015A. A deleted scene shows him dissappearing shortly after arriving.

    • @chrismulwee4911
      @chrismulwee4911 Před 4 lety +47

      @@TheZProtocol That's because Lorraine supposedly got fed up with him'around 1990, shot him dead in self defense, thus erasing old Biff from existence. With that, I would guess things would slowly get back to how they're supposed to be, and thus 2015 can't become dystopian

    • @thomasnieswandt8805
      @thomasnieswandt8805 Před 4 lety +67

      Actually, there was a scene to solve that problem.
      The scene was shot, but sadly cut from the movie. It took the timelines a few minutes to reset, but they changed when the DeLorean landed back in 2015. In the cutscene you can see Old Biff leaving the Car and falling to the street. Coverd in sweat and huge pain, he slowly fades away.
      By making himself rich, he wiped himself from the Timeline.
      Funfact: Spielberg wanted to shoot another scene but didnt. Rich Biff was shot by Lorane in 1990

      @Nicksolo85 Před 3 lety +6

      From Back to the Future on IMDB...
      Q: Why did Marty's entire family change but not him?
      A: Most people agree that the Marty we see going back in time at the end of Part 1 grew up in the new timeline with a wealthy family, and would have had a different personality. As for his memories, there are two schools of thought. One school believes that, due to the ripple effect, time needs to catch up, so Marty's personality would get rewritten and he would get his new memories as well. Eventually he would remember not having been surprised to see the truck, and the timeline might change slightly to reflect his resulting actions. The other school believes that Marty's memories would not change, the reason being that, while time traveling, Marty was outside his timeline and thus not affected by any changes he made, other than physical ones. There's an extension of the self-preservation theory that says the space-time continuum would naturally try to prevent paradoxes like these. It should be noted that Marty in the beginning of the film has a problem with sending the demo to a record company because of low self-confidence, as opposed to the ending of the film where a short scene shows him preparing the letter-just before he meets his siblings Dave and Linda at the breakfast table.
      This is expanded on in the second and third movies, where Doc Brown notes that repairing the timeline in the past will morph around Jennifer and Einstein who were left back in the altered 1985. Presumably, something about being inside the time machine will "lock" the passengers to the baseline 1985 version.
      A similar theory was shown in Star Trek: First Contact where the Enterprise crew witnessed the earth become all Borg and Dr. Crusher even asked, "why weren't we effected?" and Data explained that they were in a different timeline.

    One correction - Marty's 2015 home is not in Lyon Estates, it is in Hilldale. (they're parked right next to the sign) I've also always kind of wondered why they left a sleeping Jennifer in an alley instead of just leaving her in the car. Doc never said he drove Marty Jr. anywhere, only that he put him to sleep. But then of course we wouldn't have had the scene of Marty's future.

  • @TheJohnnyWonderful

    I'm a little surprised that noone mentioned how many times Marty died during the trilogy. If you think about how many predicaments Marty got into and how conveniently the Doc was there each time at the precise moment to save him, it's because they'd already done that but Marty died the first time. Doc then went back in time with the knowledge of Marty's death to save him from that particular situation this preventing his death by being at the exact right spot with the exact way to save Marty. Such as Part 2 when Marty jumps off the roof of Biff's casino, got else would Doc know to be at that exact spot at that exact time? Because originally, Marty jumped to his death or the tunnel scene when young Biff tries to run over Marty but Doc just happened to be there with the flags to pull him up.

In the same time line of 1955 the Ravine is still called Clayton Ravine after the teacher who felt down that ravine in 1885. So this is a real error. After Marty was supposed to be felt off the name changed to Eastwood Ravine. If Doc and Marty didn't save Clara she would have been fallen in the ravine hence the name Clayton Ravine. So that tomb stone cannot have her name in the same time line.

    At 17:55 when the narrator is confused that the great great grandma looks like Lorraine when it’s George’s family is explained in the Back to the Future wikia page. Either George’s family had a an attraction to people who like Lorraine’s family, or George and Lorraine are distant relatives.

    • @matthewcastleton2263
      @matthewcastleton2263 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I think they likely are distant relatives. BTTF Part 2 establishes that George McFly was born in 1938 (it’s written on his tombstone), making him 17 years old in the events of the first BTTF film. Well, 1885 is 53 years before 1938. Seamus and Maggie McFly are George McFly’s ancestors, and assuming they’re in their 20’s or 30’s in 1885, they’d have had to been born in the 1850’s or 1860’s: 80 or more years before George McFly was even born. It’s totally possible in that time that Lorraine Baines was ALSO a descendant of Seamus and Maggie McFly. I mean, her last name is Baines because that’s her father’s last name. It’s not actually mentioned what her MOTHER’S maiden name was. Her mother could be a McFly or descended from them all we know. Or even her father could be descended from them via a female line, which eventually lead to his family having a different last name. It’s not reallly that odd as lots of distant cousins marry and had no idea whatsoever that they were related in some manner.
