Zay Rashod Reactions I know the song isn’t as deep as everybody thought but haven’t you ever thought why god has always been painted as a white male throughout history, I think it’s our job as black people to question societal norms, especially being that we’re living in a post-colonization society that was meant to keep us oppressed. Just know where we originally come from, our people didn’t practice this religion and we lived in a very non homophobic and sexist society before we were taken against our will to all parts of the world, these practices that are prevalent in our community that is interpreted from mainstream religion comes from the white man, not us. Just know that this religion that your so fond of was interpreted through our people from a slave master. I’m not saying I don’t believe in god, I’m just saying I’m hesitant to believe the modern interpretation of god being that it didn’t come from us, we all know where it came from and how it flourished, the very idea of god being a man and not a gender less entity makes me question the interpretation and I think we as black people shouldn’t be so willing to abide to these interpretations because they don’t play in our favor and bias opinions are included into these narratives of god, which I quite frankly think are meant to keep us oppressed as a people.

The message behind “God is a woman” is female empowerment (it’s like an anthem for feminists/feminism). My biggest issue with it is that the lyrics of the song and the video are showing conflicting things. The lyrics are saying, “God is a woman” in a metaphorical way but in the video, Ariana is literally playing the role of “God” which I feel like although the video was visually appealing, it didn’t make sense with the lyrics
