Her lyrics are INSANE
Agreed!! Thus far this whole new album is insane!!
Anyone who thinks she's generic is only listening to her singles.
Locals. 😐 Ewww.
Yes. It bothers me when people say she’s basic because they’re just being ignorant
So true. Her deep cuts are the BEST!
Love Taylor but she always picks the worst songs to release 😂
This song is actually NOT a break up song. we think it's about how she feels with what happened with her former record label. where the head of her former label didn't allow her to sing live her old songs because she left the label to a new one and he and Taylor had a public dispute last year over her masters, where they didn't let Taylor the opportunity to bid on her music in order to buy her masters so she can own them. instead he sold the label to one of Taylor's least favorite person Scooter Braun. and since then Taylor has been VERY VOCAL about how she feels about it. She wrote this song about everything that happened between her and Scott Borchetta (the owner of her previous label, Big Machine Records). While every lyrics relates back to a feeling or moment between them, I'm just gonna pull a few and give you guys some insight :) Hope it helps!
"I didn't have it in myself to go with grace" is in regards to all the public blow ups they've since had once she found out Scott sold her masters to Scooter Braun. She wasn't prepared to take it silently and went for the kill in the media.
"Cause when I'd fight, you used to tell me I was brave." Scott was Taylor's biggest cheerleader, having signed her when she was 14 and being one of the first people on his new label. He watched her grow up. He was like family to her.
"Cursing my name, wishing I'd stayed." The contradiction of her knowing that he is publicly throwing punches her way, but deep down he always wanted her to stay with the label but was pissed off when she decided to move so that she could own the masters to her future work (something that he wasn't willing to offer her if she stayed with Big Machine).
"And I still talk to you, when I'm screaming at the sky." A vulnerable lyric, IMO, and I think it shows that while Taylor wishes she could just hate Scott and move on, a part of her was just deeply hurt by the betrayal she felt when he sold her music to her worst enemy.
"You wear the same jewels that I gave you
, as you bury me" - meaning he's proudly have her old music (masters) that she created while he talked down about her in the media during their dispute.
""And I can go anywhere I want
, anywhere I want, just not home" to refer to the time where she looked for new labels to sign to because her old label wouldn't let her buy her music, so it means to say she can go to any label she wants but not home i.e. her old label is the place where she called home and now it's the only place she can't go.
"And when you can't sleep at night, you hear my stolen lullabies." This lyric cemented the idea of it being about Scott, because she feels like he never gave her a real chance to own her music and thus, stole them from her and he should feel guilty about that/it should keep him up at night. I remember in an interview she said that she had many conversations with Scott over the years (sometimes in tears) about her problems with Scooter, but Scott had 330 reasons to forget those problems. (referencing the $330m sale Scott got for selling off his label, 80% of revenue that Taylor accounted for BTW
This is some great information, as well as a great commentary and breakdown of what went down. Thank you.
Great job breaking it down .. How incredible a long writer is Taylor ..?.Brilliant
We think the same ThAnk GOD i saw someone who thinks the same
Damn nice commentary.
I remembered she said 300 million reasons
Taylor was never generic but her critics became so. And for no good reason.
I think the simplicity of her voice lends that thought, but if you dig into her lyrics, she’s always had depth.
Actually I never thought of her voice being "generic" her voice is not very powerful like adele or any belter , but she has a very unique voice, she can hit low and high notes very well., if you watch her 1989 tour you will see how powerful her voice is.
@@nathanlongwell taylor swift, her mic, and her guitar could silence a whole stadium. she needs no backup singers and dancers.
rather than critics i would rather say it’s just general public who never really pay attention to her albums in depth cause honestly critics have been recognizing her brilliance (she wouldn’t get long list of awards if not)
@@Angel-fq9re
Only recently cause they didn’t like her Reputation album which consensus now is it’s a great body of work. As for the general public, they attended her concerts to record attendance. The dislike was due to people believing the Kimye lie and lambasted her for it. Except for those who saw through that lie and supported Taylor.
She is the greatest lyricist if this decade .. century for me
Taylor Swift never disappoints
What makes me really shocked was that this song is self written by herself only. Isn't it amazing becuz it's very rare to find a mainstream artist who wrote their song without any co-writer
Have you heard her speak now album? She wrote the whole thing without any co-writers and it is seriously one of my favourite albums
Dude she has written a lot of her great songs alone. She has always had songs self written. Where are you living
@@ishita3472 Ooooo....I'm sorry. I'm living in Malaysia. I only listen to her 1989 stuff and the snake album. Country music is not well known in my country so I ldk that much about her self written country song. I know Lover is self written song becuz it's got grammy nomination but this song lyricism is on another level compare to Lover
Joshua Bassett does
@@ezulamir9536 he/she/they didn't actually asked "where do you live?" It's an insult. Lol
My Tears Ricochet grew on me listening to the whole album multiple times. Now I'm 'weeping on a sunlit room'.
Oh no! This is my favorite song on her album. This is about Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records who sold her albums behind her back to Scooter Braun. Hence the line with .... Stolen Lullabies. Is was the ending of their friendship and you can see in the song she states “I can anywhere, just not home” meaning back to Big Machine which she considered her home.
You should listen to the song again knowing the meaning. It hits way different 😊❤️
I’m gonna go do that. 👌🏼👌🏼😜
yes! i wasn't crazy about it on first listen but after listening and dissecting the meaning it definitely hits much harder and deeper.
I never though she would write a song better than all too well
also can we talk about her low notes, so good
I've never really been a Taylor Swift fan, but watching your reactions to her songs has made me seek out some more of her (and there's plenty to explore) She is truly talented (not just an "average American Idol" singer. Thanks again for your thoughtful insights and exposing me to more of her music
Scotty! I love it! She definitely has more depth than your average pop star today! 👍🏼☺️
@@nathanlongwell yessssss
I hate when people say she's just a white privileged woman who sings about breakups and makes generic albums that sound the same... That is such an ignorant pov, the woman can write and sing about ANYTHING, she experiments/slays literally every music genre out there and ppl still be sleeping on her talent. And I'm not even mentioning her insane lyricism and storytelling abilities
Yeah, she’s incredibly talented. My opinion is that some of her Melodys sound similar, but overall I think she’s awesome!
The love of money is the root of all evil! Scott sold Taylor’s life’s work to someone who bullied Taylor online which humiliated and deeply hurt her.. imagine trusting someone like family and they turn around and stab you directly in the back! Just listen to Mad Woman and you can feel her justifiable anger.
Listen to all her full albums. She always had great, meaningful songs. Her singles are always the weakest in the albums.
lol!!!
That’s marketing because that’s the only way to get the songs that may not be powerful be recognised
@@donyanadi3546 also if you're not a fan of her or know her you would skip this regardless how powerful the lyrics it is if it's not catchy
I agree. Like shake it off. Blank Space is also a masterpiece and at the same time, a great single. It’s just that her fame and reputation dispute her talent most of the time.
Not cardigan :( also Taylor wasn't always good at picking the singles especially for rep and lover. I think she only kept the best for her fans.
The most perfect part THE GREATEST part in the whole album is when she sings in MTR " if I'm on fire you'll be made of ashes too" and then in hoax she goes " I am ash from your fire" 😍😍🔥🔥🔥 she's on a whole different game,
I vibed with you the entire time 🙌🏾😂 this is my favorite song on the album and I enjoyed your reaction!
Wow in cry 😭🖤🦋
I think this song for Scott Brochetta who betrayed her, sold her album (stollen lullaby) to Scooter Braun her enemy
I absolutely love this song and every song on the album truly a beautiful masterpiece of an album ❤️❤️💕
The lyrics are evocative
The BEST song off folklore 🙌🏻
Not all her sad songs are about breakups. All her songs have either subliminal messages or has double meanings hidden on metaphors whether it's country, pop, or alternative. She's also the main songwriters of her songs from the very beginning of her career. all of them has a deep meaning and that makes her distinct from any other artists.
“my tears ricochet” is about her stolen lullabies and each line was taken from a song from each stolen album!!
“i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace)
“you’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman)
“and if I’m dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead)
“cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You)
“wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay)
“look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)
No se si entiendas español, pero hermosa reacción, y comentario. Te adoro
A comment from a Swiftie said that the Chorus has easter eggs of her 6 stolen albums: She's a Mastermind !!!!
1. …..I didn't have it in myself to go with grace ( Song - State of Grace ) Album: RED
2. …..And you're the hero flying around, saving face ( Song - Superman ) Album: Speak Now
3. …..And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake? ( Song - Look What You Made Me Do ) Album: REPUTATION
4. …..Cursing my name, ( Song - The Way I Loved You ) Album: FEARLESS
5. …..wishing I stayed ( Song - All You Had To Do Was Stay ) Album: 1989
6. …..Look at how my tears ricochet ( Song - Teardrops On My Guitar ) Album: Debut - Taylor Swift
One of my favorites on the album!!!❤️
Scott and scooter even tricked to capitalize off her after she left
They released an album of her live performances
Idk exactly how many they sold, but i think it was under 1,000
She can make songs that are not generic but for Lover, she chose not to because she knew she's gonna make a bubble gum pop album, a very bright daylight album after reputation (dark night). But there are still gems in the album like Cruel Summer, The Archer, Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince, Cornelia Street, Soon You'll Get Better, You Need To Calm Down.
Subscribing for more Taylor content. Plus your voice is relaxing lol
Her brand new Album "Folklore" is about the love triangle story that she made (but some of it are facts). There are 3 characters in her new album "James, Betty, and the side chick". In this song we as her fans speculated this about James's point of view. Cause every song is connected. But this song is also about her and her ex record label. The CEO of that company decided to betray her and he sold all her Album's Masters to her enemy. That man had a great relationship with her as a partner in music industry. She always considered him as her family members until he switched his side. The fact is without her that record label would never existed. Btw this song is a self written.
"that was good".... Good? Its WONDERFUL, amazing, out of This World. A masterpiece. Thats my opinion 😉 And I am NOT a Swift fan at All. I just heard her on the radio, watched some music videos and All cause music is my life... But then came these albums. Folklore is something different... "Odd" in a way like you say. This is def my favourite song of hers. I actually have one or two of her earlier albums so I did listen to her more when she started but got lost in between. But she is def on my radar now again. Hello btw 👋
I think this is about Scott B. also.
I’ve seen a post on twitter that this was the POV of Esse or Esie in No body, no crime. But I couldn’t agree more on the explanation that this is also a hint of what happened with big machines.
So many people shit on reaction videos(some are horrible for sure). But it is interesting to see what other people see in songs! you certainly pay a lot of attention to the lyrics!
you'd probably saw comments about tje teenage love triangle in this album. And since you already heard Cardigan, i hope u could listen to August and Betty
Cardigan - Betty's PoV
August - James' summer fling, other girl's PoV
Betty - James' PoV
i enjoyed ur reaction and i respect ur opinion about Lovet album. somehow, i can relate to it.
hoping u could react to full folklore album!❤️
lover*
Taylor Swift is the songwriter of a generation
It’s not a breakup song, it talks about a friend that betrayed you
Three songs are part of a teenage love triangle: Cardigan, August, and Betty.
Cardigan: Betty’s POV (girl who was cheated on)
August: Inez’s POV (side chick)
Betty: James’ POV (cheater)
I don’t think the August girl name is Inez, she was just a girl who likes to gossip and the name of the other girl is a mystery for us.
🎶🎵🎵🎵🌻😊👏👏
Hey man, could you react to the 'is your bedroom ceiling bored with cavetown'?
Please react August by Taylor
Just say it made you emotional like bruh it isn't that hard you are like it's sound odd but good like make it make sense say that you like it and it made you emotional 🤷♀️
WHAT SONG DOES THIS SONG SOUND LIKE. NOT HATING BUT THE PART WHERE IT GOES "DUNDUNDUNDA DUNDUNDUNDA DUNDUNDUNDADUNN"
Not a break up song
I wish he would use a different descriptor than “ODD” or “INTERESTING”.
People think Taylor Swift = break up song. “She’s a pretty blonde without depth”. Clearly the song went right over his head. Why not do a little bit of research on a song before you react to it so that you don’t sound so weird and ignorant about it??
SO IGNORANT
