My Life in Gaming makes documentaries, deep dives into retro console hardware, and more. - Hry
you mean I can finally play GBA games on the go?!?!
BertBerryCrunch THAT YOU CAN PLAY AT HOME ON A TV!!!!! Revolutionary! Are you listening Switch?!? /s
Best Comment Ever!!! LOL
BertBerryCrunch i have a screen that attaches to my GameCube similar to the famous PS1 screen and i have a battery thats suposed to go on the bottom but i put a gameboy player there and i use that as a portable gba
BertBerryCrunch Of course, a large screen Game Boy
Bort License Plate you already could dum dum.
"A totally portable game boy advance"
I appreciated this.
I DIDN'T KNOW YOU'RE A FAN OF THIS SHOW DUDE!I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D
It would be awesome if you can paly GBA games on it, only no you can not :(
especially the face he made afterwards
This. was. hilarious.
Austin Eruption Best moment. Maybe even the best moment of all MLiG videos.
"... and there you go! A portable game boy advance" Haha...
Jay Boerner I bet he meant to say Game Boy Advance and DVD combo.
A Pointless Review /r/Woosh
It was obviously a joke!
I used to work for a vehicle upfitter back in the day that sold and installed these all the time. We hated them as the quality was pretty bad compared to other in-vehicle units. Later in life I went back to try and get one of these for my game collection the prices had gone way up. I could have picked one up for a song back in the day as we were having trouble moving them after a while... ah well...
Oh... and these were available through Ford upfitters way earlier than 2006 if memory serves. Also the big double slotted metal straps that came in the dock kit were awesome to use for all kinds of custom bracket applications... I used to hoard those metal straps... so beefy!
It's not often that I come across a Game Boy I've never seen before... Awesome!
Much less a portable one... wait
Certainly one of the most interesting obscure variations of a Nintendo system I've ever seen.
I actually remember seeing advertisements for this back in 2006 in Nintendo Power.

"And there you go! A totally portable Gameboy Advance!"
Ha! Love it!
The Visteon screen is designed to support the GBA’s tiny resolution properly, I’d assume that’s why it handles 240p perfectly.
Another superb video. I hope I'm not the only person who feels this way, but EVERY time I hear that music, the hair on the back of my neck stands on end; just epic.
Richard Evans i get chills every time i hear the intro track :)
+gmcfasho have no idea what you're talking about...
From the golden sun soundtrack you mean? Yes im with you
perfect comedic timing at the end there, not many manage to do that lmao
Very interesting piece of tech. Didn't know they would make GBA docks for specific cars back in the day.
"A totally portable Gameboy Advance" Hahaa
I had a portable DVD player as a kid. Not one of these, but a DVD player. I thought it was awesome! I could watch a film or TV show, in the car! Or in the kitchen! Or in my room! The thing is, when I grew up in the UK, most families only had 1 television, and it was rare to have a television in your bedroom. So to me, being able to watch DVDs without having to use the TV in the living room was incredible!
Man, I love this kind of obscure hardware (e.g. The Genesis Boombox, the Dreamcast TV, etc), but I had no idea this thing existed! Thanks, fellas!
Reminds me of Sony's TV with a built-in PS2 that only came out in Europe.
@@Rabbitlord108 Yep, that was a thing!
I would have liked to have this in the car... too bad it's probably a collector's item by now.
I'm actually surprised this wasn't a Rerez video. Solid work, Coury.
TheUltimaXtreme Don't get me wrong, I like Rerez, but I've always personally felt he never put as much detail into his videos as these guys.
It's just the traditional themes between the two. Rerez is known for reviewing rather obscure products, and I'm sure a majority of people don't know what the Visteon Dockable Entertainment System is.
Never heard of this, and makes sense considering how late into the GBA this came out to.
Seems like Visteon had great potential, but I guess they didn't receive many partnerships other than BMW and Suburu.
It would sold alot more if it was used for airplanes.
Another great video. Thank you guys! A great part of unwinding for me tonight.
I never knew this little oddity existed, thanks for sharing!
I didn't know the piece of gaming and dvd hardware existed. Keep up the good work My Life in Gaming.
love the sound effects you always use when plugging things in etc
Subscribed because this is some really high quality coverage on gaming. Keep up the good work!
Great job! Glad I could help and thanks for getting this information out there. I had it in storage for 3 plus years until finally learning the PSP charger fits in it.
Finally got mine in, thanks for sharing this with them as I wanted to see how the s-video was on this.
wow, i can't beleive i hadnt heard of this before. I've been trying to collect every gameboy type ever made and now I have to track this down somehow so I can eventually complete my collection
I remember reading about this in Nintendo Power! I forgot about it until now, great video!
A crazy expensive Rich kid car toy. Thanks for sharing.
nintendo switch of 2006 baby!
I think the psp could qualify for that title as well. There were docks for it that took advantage of the fact that the headphone jack could output composite video. Or you could just use the headphone jack to composite video out, no dock needed. I was pretty impressed when I found out I could play my psp on a tv with no extra hardware, though the image quality is pretty garbage compared to the device's own screen.
@@jokerzwild00 If I remember correctly you could connect the psp for 480p on a TV using the mini usb to composite
Wow that was neat! I use to have a thing for portable dvd players :) well really any portable tech.
By far my favourite youtube intro music!
Very informative and the opening was cool too!
Real Genius! One of my favorites!
[Coury] Yep! It was cool being able to give little glimpses of two of my favorite movies in this episode.
And the other one was High Fidelity right?
[Coury] That's right. I've probably watched it 50 times.
Holy crap! The only movie I've ever watched that many times is Transformers: The Movie (1986)
+Gabe Swarr y'know that'd rank up there for me too. Only other movie that probably exceeds that is Terminator 2. Big Lebowski might be close too
u guys are awesome u guys do the best reviews ever keep it up i love u guys
Need to fix my old CRT again because I'm missing playing my old consoles on it, but this time isn't as simple as replacing some blown capacitors.
Michael Parker just get a new CRT on Craigslist.
Brandon Evans I've got reasons for keeping this one.
Brandon Evans - Or just pick one up off the side of the road. I see them all over central PA because dumps stopped taking them. I got a few that work just fine.
How did I never know about this?! Thanks for the great video. I’ve always wished my gameboy advance was portable…
Woah I did not know that this even existed. :O
Thanks for the video guys!
Sir. the moment you mentioned the Lodgenet N64 controller made me have memories of my childhood going to
Embassy suites hotels when I was a kid. This was like amazing and incredible.
Always played Star Fox 64 every time I had the chance to beat the game before time ran out on the charge.
"Welcome, and thank you for choosing Embassy Suites.
We hope you enjoy your stay with us."
Wow 5th Person and I wanted to take a look at this one for a long time thanks for this amazing video :)
What a weird thing. Visteon must not have been happy about Nintendo going to a device with touchscreens making a successor device to this impossible.
They did consider making them for DS and Wii actually, according to Wikipedia. Which you might know by now. :P
I still can't get over the fact it's called *_The Ultimate Backseat Babysitter_* on the box.
"A totally portable Gameboy Advance!" Alright, that part killed me haha. -Matt
I grew up with the gameboy micro and I never knew this thing existed back then. I only just seen it and heard about it in this video. This was cool and I remember thinking about how cool something like that would be back in the day.
needed this when i was a child ....damn
Excellent video as per usual.
There should be a Gaming Historian episode about this
I would have loved one of these as a kid
Hi! you can feed the video from the 3.5mm jack.. no need to dock..
+Rama Mishra [Try4ce] He's talking about video input to the Visteon, not from the Visteon.
My Life in Gaming Yes I see.. but when he was showing that video out port.. I read that its written 'video in/out svideo out' I hope I read correct. it suggests that video feed can be sent in from the same port... :-(
Just tried this and you're absolutely right. Its funny, i spent so much time with the thing, including close ups of the port itself and didn't even notice the word "in" on there
My Life in Gaming Yes it happens to everyone... ;-) great video as always!! you guys rock!
Love the Mother 3 song! This console seems perfect for that game.
Yay! A gameboy I have never heard of!
Very cool device i had never heard of this device before.
2:25 two player action... Driving down the freeway with a cord running out your window to another car right next to you. Yup that's definitely some action!
I though I already knew everything there was to know about the Gameboy line, but here I learn something new lol!
Love weird things like this. Stuff like the Amstrad Computer that could play Mega Drive carts and that NES TV always interest me. They usually come across like an experiment to test the waters a little, like maybe Nintendo were considering an in car model of a console and want to see how this would be accepted. Seems alright for one of those portable DVD players too because some of them have terrible screens and outputs.
Also, you get a like for using music from Astro Boy omega Factor. love that game. Did a video talking about how much I love it a couple of months ago. One of them Treasure games that people forget about and one of the must buys for GBA.
In that same category is the Pioneer LaserActive; a laser disc player that had a removable Genesis module. It could also play Sega CD games in the laser disc drive.
Just had a look up at that one. It seems it had a Turbo Grafx module available too. Bet that's an expensive thing to get hold of now.
Niccce :) Even a link port :D *the hunt is on*
2:50 Yay for Esperanto :D
I saw this thing in an old gaming magazine when i was a kid, and always wanted one, i feel like im one of very few who searched for this video rather than stumbling on it x3
"and there you go, a totally portable gameboy advance"
lol, that was pretty good :P
You're simply GREAT !!!
I would've loved to have this back in the day.
Wow never knew this was a thing man the gab was the best
Any machine that can play GBA games well is a good machine in my book!
So true!
This thing is so cool! I saw this In an Uber a few days ago!
Now I'll be on the look out for these portable dvd players when I see them at the thrift store.
My cousin's parents had one of these in their van when we were kids. I thought it was pretty sweet.
Wow, nice find I've never seen one of these before. It's not very practical, being a laptop sized gba with the not great image quality of an older lcd screen, but it's a cool piece of history. I'd love to find one of these in an old used car. Hell it would be a major selling point for me.
I love all your videos. But I am a Sega Kid at heart. So I am sitting here really patiently for the Sega Saturn, game gear and Dreamcast videos. Lol!!
look up the nomad and you will see something strange or the sega cd x
What is the name of your INTRO SONG?
Finally, a totally portable GBA! Lol. This was great. Somehow I never watched this video let alone heard of the Visteon. This video is criminally under viewed.
those pokemon sound effects though
I was taking stuff out of a woman's car at work today and saw this inside on the roof. I had no idea this was even a thing but as soon as I saw the GBA logo and the cartridge slot i knew i stumbled upon something special.
I asked her if she had any idea what the device was and she said she didnt since she got her Subaru Tribeca second hand.
Great video
Licensed non-Nintendo console released after the Lodgenet N64 and before the Visteon GBA: the Panasonic Q, a video DVD player that also supported GameCube games.
If you want to consider more direct partnerships, there is also the iQue products. While iQue is currently fully owned by Nintendo, this wasn't always the case. As far as I know, most of the iQue products were simply rebrands of their international versions, but iQue's first product was the big exception: the iQue Player.
The iQue Player, released in 2003, was basically an N64 built into a controller, using a RAM cart to store downloadable N64 games. The games were loaded at a kiosk sort of like the Famicom Disk System kiosks did.
+Adam Zey [Try4ce] Right, there are definitely many examples, but we believe this is the first example of Game Boy tech being licensed.
New Game Boy Advance SP XL, very cool
I really want one of these
6:47 I actually own a CRT with S Video, its an old Bang and Olufsen tv, it sounds great and has an amp for external speakers. Its pretty heavy though at almost 90kg. (200 lbs)
Just one year old now!!!!
impressive content
9:47 That face killed me
fun fact, the wirless gamepad uses the same shell from a gamepad Sky (a British Sattelite TV provider) made for their Sky + TV boxes in the early 2000s
You guys may have already heard this news, but Retro Bit is releasing their multi console the Super Retro Trio with built in HDMI. Considering that the system plays their Retro Advance Adapter without the use of the added input on the cart, it might be something to look into when it releases.
THATS ASTRO BOY SOUNDTRACK NEAR THE END!!!!!! I love Omega Factor it's easily my favorite GBA game ever!!!!!!!!!'
"A totally portable game boy advance"
genius!
I had no idea this ever existed... and I collect for gba
I love your videos
Not related to this video, but I just got back my UltraHDMI-modded N64. I made the choice entirely because of MLiG, and I'm glad I did.
Who else came here from Scott The Woz's GBA video?
Hey all, Scott here!
"Oh shit it's a Gameboy"
Yup. The end of the video threw a questions at me. Did this exist?
I always wanted a portable Game Boy Advance
I see you're a fan of... High Fidelity... lol kind of a visual pun(?)
Great video as always :D
I remember this thing
The headphones were probly the coolest thing in the box back in the day
I appreciated the Mother 3 background music
The video jack says video in/out. Try connecting other consoles up to it, maybe you can use the aux input without using the dock and playing upside down.
Apparently there were plans to do this with the Wii and DS. 5-year-old me would've killed for something like that.
I'm really into docking
Reminds me of the treamcast
It's an odd device, but I kinda want one. Imagine hooking it up to a GameCube via the GBA-GC link cable and using that odd controller on your GameCube like a ln extended Wavebird for some GBA compatible games
That controller looks like the Model W Biometal from Mega Man ZX. lol
Interesting thing
Simply insert the Vision Dockable Entertainment (Featuring Game Boy Advance) into the ceiling mounted docking station, then swing the LCD screen down into the open position for Driver's rear-view-mirror-obscuring fun! For like a six hour drive! You literally won't be able to see what's coming up behind you!
You guys should do a video on the Panasonic Q, unless you already talked about it in your GCN overview video and I forgot.
[Try4ce] We'd love to if we got our hands on one. They're expensive, though. We were only able to do this because someone lent us one.
my 7-year old self would’ve loved this
