One Month Living in my Corolla: I have a confession...

- In this video I review how the first month living in my 2016 Toyota Corolla went. I will say, that it was not what I had expected. This video is a little different from my normal videos but I wanted to share my experience so far honestly with you all. Thank you for watching and listening to me rant! Also, I am sorry about the wind!
If you have any road trip song recommendations, comment down below! I am always looking for new music. Thank you!
SCAMMER ALERT! Please be aware there are scammers impersonating my profile asking for money in the comment section! This is NOT me, so please be careful, hold on to your money, and be sure to report the scammers! Thank you!
Take this from someone who is a lot older than you who also had an adventure spirit. When you are in your twenties, you are in an adult learning period of your life. You have no experience to make judgement calls so you throw yourself out there and find out reality is different than what you had thought. Sometimes you put yourself into tough situations. These are life lessons. You will make mistakes. The thing is to learn from your mistakes in which you gain experience and wisdom. We all have to find our way in life. That is what being an adult and being human is. You wanted to try this and you see that not everything is what you thought. You are learning. You would have regretted it if you hadn't done this so now you know. Good for you. Carry Bear Mace with you. It shoots farther than regular mace.
Thank you!
You are absolutely right. Experiences create wisdom. And I wish everyone can learn quickly but sometimes we make the same mistakes.
Another tip for anyone (not just women)
Please arm yourself. Truck stops, side streets, back roads and parking lots are magnets for criminals.
Should always carry one on you but a trick is to carry one (a hammer less snub nose) in a small purse when you're sleeping.
If anyone tries to hurt you, you put your hand in the purse and stop them.
Girl, the more you travel, the less insecure you become. One day you just realize that, actually, you are doing it and doing pretty good. And there are a lot of people who just can’t do what you do. And all the questions they ask are their fears that stop them from even trying to do the same. This is experience that will eventually end. You’ll get back to security, kitchen, shower but for now you have the freedom, you overcome this and that every single day. I did something similar years ago and the most important thing that I took out of it, aside from seeing all these places, was to be ok with not knowing where I’m gonna sleep in couple days. One day I just realized that I’d been doing it for so long and it always worked out and boom, the fear was gone. I was completely calm and ok with uncertainty. This is the real meaning of letting go and I wish you all the best in your journey. Whenever you feel uncertain just look around you, look at everything you’ve done, you rock!
This was one of the most honest videos I’ve seen on car dwelling! Thanks for sharing what’s its really like in the beginning Angie.
Tim! Love your channel!
@@The.Harsh.Truths Thank you!
In 2019, i took a 6 week trip through the west predominately living in my car and tent. While I slowly worked up to it by taking trips alone in preceding years, I had never done it for such a long time and in places I didn’t know. I experienced much of the same emotions and challenges in those 6 weeks, but it was life changing. I don’t have the ability to do it full time for job reasons, but I do it at every opportunity I can and have been working towards remote options. You learn so much about yourself, making decisions in the moment, problem solving and being alone with yourself and thoughts.
Was on the road for 5 years in my 50's, back to college in my 60's got the "RN!'!. Now 75 and will do road trips for the summers. If it is in your spirit to be adventurous, taking the risk is life changing. EXPLORE! Your doing great !
Imagine the amount of confidence you have gained through this situation. You've got GRIT.
I was your age when I traveled through Europe by myself for 2 months. I would have stayed longer, but my ticket had me coming back. It was adventurous and sometimes scary because being a pretty young woman (like you) you have to be real careful when men know that you are on your own. Extra precautions are very necessary. I wish that you have a larger vehicle to travel in, it would be so much more pleasant and less work organizing everything. But kudos to you for doing this. I am sure your family are petrified for you! You will build so many memories that you will carry with you through life by doing this! Good luck.
“Maturity is the capacity to endure uncertainty.” - John Huston Finley
Thank you. I needed to read that.
You are freaking awesome, stay safe out there. Those fears are totally normal, especially as a young woman. I definitely relate to a lot of these fears, you are so brave and take it day by day. You are smart and capable and you will figure it out as needed.
wow you are actually so amazing!! I found your channel a couple of weeks ago and was so in awe with how much planning you put into everything and living your dream!! I am going on my first ever solo road trip across the country in May and seeing you doing this has made it feel so much more attainable and comfortable. Thank you so much for sharing all of these fears, I find some similar ones going through my brain thinking about going and this video makes them all seem not so bad and like I will figure it all out. Keep doing your thing we all support you :)
Yes you are brave! And thankfully, stubborn. Give yourself a break, you had 26 years of society pressuring you to fit into that little box you left behind. Even freedom takes some getting used to.
You're very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your doubts, fears and thoughts. Wish you easy roads!
You are doing amazing. You've conquered that chapter and learned, and you grow. You are brave and living your dream. Keep on keeping on and appreciate the honesty. Keeps your videos real. You got this. 😊🌍🙏
We just recently discovered you and you're such a beautiful, positive soul! My wife and I are in our fifty's and just now embarking on this life style before it's "too late". You are so perfect for this, so well spoken, and genuine and genuinely a joy to listen and follow on your adventures!
Angie, I have to tell you how amaaaaazing you are! Wow! And courageous. Not only in facing your fears in taking on this huge challenge but taking on the fear of being so vulnerable about how it really is for you. You’ve helped so many people. Not just those that are thinking of this kind of lifestyle but anyone taking on a challenge in life. Thank you!
Just recently found your videos. Wow you are amazing. Do what you feel you need to do just please be careful. Don't be afraid to reach out to family and friends who need you as much as you need them. Keep us updated and enjoy your adventure : )
I really do appreciate this video. I also ended up living in my corolla for awhile since I really enjoyed the city I was living in at the time. It was definitely mentally hard during the first week for me when I was constantly thinking about where I was able to park/sleep at. All in all, that experience has made me more appreciative of the things I have now. Being off the grid and attempting to achieve what I wanted so bad was such an experience I will never forget. Thank you for sharing yours!
Aww I love this and can relate to your emotions so much! Thank you for your honesty and inspiration 💕🤗
How odd. I'm a senior and lived in my crossover for 3 years. I had a bit more room and knew enough about camping to make it work. At no time, however, was I afraid. Perhaps it's because I was too busy figuring out what to do with the hours of the day and still maintain somewhat of a normal life. I grew to like and eventually love it. I am sheltered now but still take trips and use the same routine. I'm glad you have family. Just knowing that must give you some wind beneath your wings. The skills you have learned are for a purpose. My best to you! 🌹
I would be afraid of crime. Living near a larger city we are well aware of the criminal element out there.
You must have never watched crime TV 🤣.. I tried to camp alone one night in my Jeep even and just couldn't. I was an hour from home but took 2!hrs because it was at night and I'm night blind lol
@@PEDALSnPROJECTS I'm a former detective with Los Angeles county CA . Crime?😂
Keep it up!! We’re all pulling for you to succeed in this journey! You’re kicking ass!!
I love the scenery shots!! Absolutely gorgeous !!! Thank you for sharing then.
You might not know all the answers but just remember dear that God is with you wherever you may go. Joshua 1:9 Good bless you! You got this!
You are so strong and brave for seeing the light at the dark tunnel. You could of easily let your fears take over and bring you back to living in an apartment but you didn't. You are exactly where you are meant to be and I am excited to watch your journey. Ive been heavily thinking of leaving my apartment to live in my SUV as well its something I have always wanted to try out so we shall see :)
Stumbled across your video and it hit the spot for me since tomorrow I’ll be traveling alone by car and 1 night I’ll be sleeping in it. And it’s a bit nerve wrecking since I never did it. Your story showed me it’s ok to be nervous but at the same time exciting to experience this for the first time. Thank you and I hope you keep enjoying your journey!
I appreciate this video and your honesty.. not everyone can be so open and honest about what it's like living in your car and on the road.
Truly appreciate your honesty. Sometimes it is hard to face our fears and push forward. To get on camera and share those fears with your viewers takes “hard” to another level all together. Thank you Angie for what you are doing.
Love your brave attitude! I also appreciate your candidness :)
I’m so happy that you shared this post of your story/journey. I’m 36 and wanting to do the same thing and videos like this help me to better know what I’m going to be getting myself into if i embark on this journey. Thank you for sharing this and im so glad that things have gotten better for you.
So much overwhelm! It makes sense that the feelings were so big in the reality of it after taking such a leap. Thanks for telling us these personal heartfelt moments.
Every experience you have is making you stronger and giving you strategies for the future. Every day you are learning who you are. Thanks for taking us with you on this amazing trip!
Thank you for the video it’s really inspiring. I hate my job for more than 10 years and don’t have enough courage to leave. Glad that you do. Best of luck on the road
You are so brave and inspiring! Could you please make a video of all those things you had to figure out while on the road. What would have prepared you better not that you have hindsight? I am hoping to do the same as you, and you seem so truthful and honest about this whole experience. I would love to hear everything you had to deal with in those first 2 weeks
I will have to make a video about starting out in this lifestyle. I mean at the end of the day you can prepare all you want, but actually doing it becomes another monster. You know? But I can definitely make a video about the fears I faced those first two weeks (and still do today..)! Thank you for the suggestion!
Thank you for your openness. Hope things get better with day. ✨❄️🎶
you're a special kind!! I find you SO brave. WELL DONE.
I am envying that move you did, and my god I really want to experience that one day.
You can't beat that great MPG that the Corolla gets! Good luck to you ... liking this channel!!
Toyota Prius! I live in one part time
What’s the mpg like on a Prius ?
Love watching your videos!!!
BEST ADVICE I ever received is "Don't think about yourself." Life is so complicated you are never going to figure it out. Think forward not backwards and focus all your attention on what is at hand and just do your very best at everything you do. Psalm 19
Thank you for your vulnerability… this is a beautiful, honest, authentic video
I really appreciate your honesty and your vulnerability…..I can relate…. you got this friend ❤❤❤
Enjoy your journey because God is with you always. Always trusting him & have Faith. 🌸🌸❤️🌸🌸
I love this video. I've always wanted to a road trip like yours as a solo female but I need to do it soon before I get too old to do it so thank you for the brutal honesty, what to expect, and the inspiration!
Good luck. You're doing something that takes courage
Thank you for sharing. Many people are romanticizing the idea living in the car, van … but there are many things to take in account. Pray when you feel afraid and continue brave if that desition has a purpose. 💜👍🏽
Outstanding video. So truthful and accurate. Thank you for being so real. ✨️🌻✨️
Sei in gamba e il tuo video mi aiuterà ad affrontare la tua stessa situazione 🫶🏼 sii semplice e sincera come ti sto vedendo ora❤️🫂
I just found your videos. I admire what you're doing. Especially because you're not in some glamorous camping setup. Keep up the good work. Congrats on getting out of the NE.. I'm jealous.
Keep going sweetie! Not many people have the courage to do what you’re doing!
Be nice to yourself. It’s a huge adjustment/ learning curve. You are bigger than any of your problems. Rise above. Enjoy the journey. You can do it. Stay safe. 👍😎🙏🏻
I found your channel yesterday. Looks exciting to see the places that you have gone so far. I've been to some of the places like Devil's Tour and Mt. Rushmore. I have yet to watch the rest of your videos. My boyfriend and I went out west for a trip in 2015 and we flew to Denver and drove to Mt. Rushmore, and saw it twice. Visited Crazy Horse memorial and skipped the Badlands because we had plans to see Devil's Tower, then Little Big Horn in Montana and zipped through Wyoming to go to Rocky Mtn National park. Vacation was over. He used to work in Denver, so I got to go to Wyoming a few more times. It's lovely.
You are brave to do this by yourself. But many are doing the same thing. Good job! Hope it fulfills you! Hope you get many Subscribers on YT to assist your venture too!
you are so awesome! keep listening to your gut!!!
You are in a good state of mind. The fear of uncertainty is real, and can be crippling. However, you overcome it, and move ahead. The real fear should be thinking, feeling as though you are all set, in comfort, in a routine, then in a flash it is all pulled right out from under you. Security. What is it? In the end it is as you have proven to yourself, that you are adaptable, and can come out of the fears just fine.🙏
I am so proud of you. I went out on a motorcycle with a new tent and an old sleeping bag for ten weeks. But I knew I was coming home to my house, car & stuff. But when I came back to the everyday I got extremely depressed. It took a while to realize I missed the daily unknown. I now needed the unknown. I'm over 2 years now with all I own strapped to my motorcycle and the unknown is what feeds me. I get anxiety after being in one place too long. I start thinking, what new adventures, sights, and other people's stories am I missing out on. Today had lunch with 4 new friends, took turns swapping stories and they enriched my soul. 2 nights ago a lady was looking at spiders in a light fixture. She was very knowledgeable on the subject. I even learned about their social habits. It sounds like you're dialed into your new lifestyle now but when you're doubting yourself self just think, if I stop what riches was the universe going to unfold before me that I would miss out on.
I liked the music you picked for this video.
Love your videos ❤
This is your adventure never let fear take it away from you.. RocOn..
It’s always like this when you first try something new. Anxious, nervousness, and yes, fear. Once you start getting use to it and get into a routine, a lot of that initial jitters naturally go away.
I know it’s easier said than done, and yaddy yada, but it’s the truth. It’s a learning process and soon, you’ll reflect back and say, “this is awesome and I did it!” Read the comments becasue a lot of people on here are genuinely rooting for you! It’s one big family and everyone’s here to support you!!!
Thank you for sharing. I did something similar at 25, but short term, and maybe it was too easy for me. Since then I've often encouraged friends to go solo roadtripping like this, without fully considering the challenges others may face. (And now there's cost- gas went ludicrously cheap in 2015!)
It's tough cause you are alone.. You like to be family and friends.. You will be alright just stay safe.. Everything you feeling is natural I believe everyone goes through that for the first time traveling alone..
Hi Angie. At 61, I just took my first car camping solo trip too, in early October 2022. I’m so excited for you in getting out there as a younger person! I loved my adventure. It was great, and I can’t wait to get out there again. But I’m thinking with just a FWD super compact car, I am so limited as to where I can go with weather impacting my car getting around - snow, rain/mud/ fires, cold, winds, etc. CA is a nightmare right now. And I heard you say Utah’s off-season doesn’t end until Feb…but let’s face it maybe May is better for a car camper. I feel so frustrated that weather is keeping me grounded. How are you getting by out there in these limiting weather conditions? Ex: Are you using snow tires or tires? Happy travels and I’m loving your channel and content. 😊🚙🏕️

I think doing this and learning to trust your own judgment and taking chances is an invaluable experience. It will definitely help you deal with difficult situations as you get older. I wish I had done something similar when I was younger.
Keep on prayer Angie🙏🏻
So glad I found you. Definitely helping me out because I wanna do this. Go do things on my own.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and your thoughts. I prefer to go at my own pace and stay away from cities too. Company is nice, but it can also be overwhelming at times.
Adventures are fun, but without anyone around for you to tell, it can feel pointless at times. I’m glad we have things like CZcams to help is share our journey, as well as partake in someone else’s journey.
Stay safe and stay strong. You’re doing a great job.
Very well said! I find that it's all about the balance! Too much of anything is never good over time. Thank you!
Danger is everywhere even while you sleep in your bed in a house apartment etc you keep living your life 🤍✨💫
Very inspirational 💕
Angie had ananswer for everything, "oh I'll just cloak my car, shields up!" water?wait for rain. :) teehee.
IF you were my daughter Id advise you to keep on going. But maybe in a little bigger of a vehicle if you are doing this long term. Your other video you said you were saving for a house. Maybe invest in something where you won't bonk your head constantly. I do have some experience with truck camping. I'm sorry you are scared or were. I had an alarm on my keychain. You're a smart lady. You'll be okay. It's not a failure to be scared or worried. I wish you so much happiness!!!
Remember, bravery is what you did while being scared.
Pride is trash ... pride comes before the fall. Let it go. Embrace you ... a commodity most people cannot or DO NOT ever do. What you are experiencing is ... GROWTH. And, it is amazingly phenomenal.
Thank you for sharing your adventures, and your fears and apprehension. It's very refreshing to see your honesty and how you work through them. You are loved, and you are brave. Stay safe, and remember you have a community who supports you. God is always with you 💛💚💙❤
Sorry for the difficult times you are going through.😢
I watch quite a few people that are living in their vehicles and I noticed that almost all of them have a dog that they travel with. I have two small, non shedding dogs and I am by myself during the week, but with having them, I never really feel alone. Also, would you feel more comfortable if you got a permit to carry? I went thru the course and just knowing that if I would ever need to protect myself, brings a little peace of mind. I know that would be the hardest for me is wondering what I would do if someone was knocking on my window or trying to get into my vehicle. Glad you are overcoming your struggles as they arise! What a great life, living it on your terms♥️🙂🙂😜😜
Can I ask what kind of dog?
My daughter is allergic dog fur. Thanks
your worst day is still better, than my best day at work
You're doing good. Carry on.
If you let fear take control over your life it will never leave. We are not meant to live in a bubble, keep it up and live your life the way you want it to be.
Brave lady, testing ur limits, exploring..
I took off in my Corolla 400 miles on my first trip and it froze the first night. Clueless me. I bought my way out of it. Expect the unexpected and be flexible and forgiving of yourself and thoughts. Most of us have TikTok brain so breaking free physically is different than mentally. Full time camper here watching your series now, and packing my Corolla to copy these styles in car as a secondary camping style.
Road trip songs: 1) On the road again -Willie nelson. 2) take me home country roads - John Denver. 3) I saw the Sign-Ace of base If you like more upbeat 4) take on me -A-ha. 5) Cotton eye joe by the Rednex Since you like Chicken wraps- Try 6) Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band. Try 7) Ava Max King and Queens. 8) Maybe Eric Clapton's wonderful tonight. 9) maybe Oh Girl by Paul Young. 10) Maybe I want it that way by Backstreet boys. 11) Grizzly Adams theme - Maybe by Tom Pace. Try Michael Martin Murphy Wildfire and Whats forever for. I can't make really good suggestions because i don't know what kind of music you like. Let me know what kind of music you like, then i'll make better suggestions. Hope this helps you out some. Take care & stay safe.
In my mind, the number #1 off the grid supply must have is a top of the line water purifying filter system, maybe Zero Water but there are others.
Thanks for sharing. Hang in there!
Hey!!! I’m 26, just quit my job 9-5 job and am going to move into a Toyota Corolla too!! Great video yeah it seems scary
Good luck!

You can always change your mind in a heartbeat. You have skills you are able to be hired you can get an apartment again you can have that security again but at least you know what it’s like to have the life sucked out of you. You know what it’s like to pay the price to be adventurous. I’m dying to be adventurous again! I want to move to Nazare and stare at 100’ waves the rest of my life ….but I’m 72 I love where I’m at right now so for now I stay put (sometimes life decides things for you). I can always vacation in Nazare next year!
For some reason, your video made me want to recommend this great book called The Book of Not Knowing by Peter Ralston. Basically, you're facing fear and insecurity head on through direct experience. The most difficult path and by far the most rewarding. Thanks for sharing your amazing journey. Your friends and family mean well, but they're also giving you all the reasons they'll never get to experience what you're experiencing. Looks to me like you're proving them wrong every day. Godspeed.
Angie, Fyi, if you have a friend that is disabled, have them bring their diable plaque so that if you happen to park at one of those garage parking in a hospital, it'll be free, if you show them that plaque and point to your disabled friend. :) What? free parking is free parking, don't think of it as using your disabled friend. :)
Good on you it's bound to be a learning curve ,sure you will gain confidence , think stealthy sometimes hidden is safer than locked ,get a little Camo shade to string up for shade , keep your bear spray handy at night, and a really powerful torch ,it takes 15 minutes to recover night vision once blinded by light,it's why cops always shine torch in people eyes ,it gives them big safety advantage
Are you coming through Phoenix on your travels? I've got several nieces around your age. Stay safe and happy! Timmy C Arizona
Relax I’m 63 and been alone for a long time you’ll be fine kid stay positive and enjoy
I've done it 40 months and Counting it's a piece of cake.
I lived in my car 🚗for 6 months, I had no problems, a good experience, big bank account made things easier. What state are you in?Thanks and be safe.
This is what life is abut, learning and growing.. just consider how much you've come on, and where you'd still be if you didn't... I wouldn't worry, but just continue to grow, learn, become stronger and enjoy life..! When I was 6.. i looked at older peopel and they knew nothing... now... at 54, I'd like to go back to my 16 year old self, and just have a with with her, tell her how things are...
Look, there was a night I was driving a long drive I knew well. It was foggy and I got exhausted. I was falling asleep at the wheel. Then I realized there were dozens of open roads to pull off on and sleep. You have options. I know it is harder/scarier for a woman (this told to me by women). That is also a stigma though. You have situational awareness. Most deterrents are enough to keep most humans and animals at bay. Also most likely a officer of the law will give you a simple warning to move along, if your parked somewhere to sleep. Though if you tell them you have been driving all day and are exhausted they will let it slide. If your worried about a weirdos keep your doors locked at night and your keys ready. There are groups of nomads that travel together. You can always stay in a caravan of like minded folks. When you break away from something that your locked into it is horrifying. You have already lived more in the last few months than I have in most of my lifetime. You should be extremely proud of yourself.
Are you using the allstays app? Great place to find a spot for the night.
super common feelings and emotions -it's called "get out of your own bubble" then everything make sense
curious been trying to catch up with your journey what did you do with your dog and bunny?
Its very tough and any self esteem you may have had or pride vanishes. Especially when your going by every dollar coming in. At least shes traveling and has gas. Not stretching your legs when you sleep will turn you into another person after a week 😅
Check out the CZcams channel Butterfly Tracks. This is a solo senior women's channel but you will learn loads from them about safety, travel planning, and I love the videos about camping tips, tricks, and gadgets. Don't be frightened of asking older women nomads for their thoughts and suggestions. They would love to hear from you and would cheer you on.
For safety invest in a tazer some bear spray, an air horn, and check out Bob's Cheaprvliving channel too. He has been living in some form of a home on wheels for over a decade I believe, and I learned tons of useful info from his videos. Stay strong, be safe, trust your instincts, and enjoy your journeys! Thanks for bringing us along!
Thank you for sharing! Russ
When you said confession time I was thinking oh no ,she quitting travel videos
Hi Angie, Just found out about your channel. One question, have your car ever broken down? Where do you keep your stuff from the car if it needs a fix??
Maybe it's cuz I'm 47 but when I did a car life thing for 2 wks, I was ok...the first few days to a week was jarring, took me 2 re-packing of stuff to get to where I wasn't losing my sunglasses lol...I think I ended up losing 3 on that trip, and having to buy some more, which, at the time and place was quite expensive. The worst part has been the aftermath of losing the car...it broke down and got repossessed because I couldn't work after (I was a delivery driver) HOWEVER...IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES OF MY ENTIRE LIFE! I long to feel that freedom of the road again (I feel with all these new "carbon" laws that we might lose that freedom, unless your rich) but have been stuck ever since.
I only got really scared a couple of times as far as people goes (a couple of creepers) but being out...free in nature? Oh yes...I plan on getting a minivan or an SUV and doing a lot more of this p/t and hopefully f/t if the income comes.
Dadley most ppl form.there lives around there habits, repetitive activities become habits..to me, I'm all bored and yawning with rituals and habits..safety is an illusion of comfort, you and me and everyone have in er strengths that just go dormant..no risk comfort...not for me..I'm a competent person..being out here alone will.make you realize this..strengths just come out and you don't realize it..until you can fall asleep worry free..ty Angie..you are an awesome woman..
Thank you for sharing your journey. All change is tough but thats what makes it so meaningful and transformative. Plus cities are stupid lol. 🐻🐻🐻
