  • I used to always consider Timken bearings the best. Its now hit and miss today if the bearing will be made in China or the USA. Timken is a total scam now. You are paying premium prices for something that is now made overseas. They are using the Timken name to rake in profits and in turn give you and inferior overseas product. My new purchase flowchart:
    1. Is it made in the USA? If not...
    2. Is it made ANYWHERE but China? If not....
    3.
    a. I don't need it
    b. I'll make it myself
    c. I'll pay someone to make it for me.
I'm done with China. I'll work harder and pay more. Keep doing that and the whole supply/demand thing will bring prices down a bit AND you help keep jobs in America.

I still use A LOT of the tools and appliances my grandfather bought back in the 1970's MADE IN USA! I WILL NOT let them go after personally trying and seeing others try some of the made in CHINA JUNK that's contaminated the shelves in stores like walmart, harbor freight, etc etc ...heck what stores aren't mainly promoting china junk anymore??? We were LIED to with their advertisements which said "Same Quality And Dependability But At A Lesser Cost" but these china businesses don't give a sh-t if they endorse GROSSLY HYPED UP ADVERTISING or if they get thousands of negative reviews... they just care about meeting a quota in a given time and flush quality control parameters down the sewer instead of their chintzy products!
Here's what harbor freight most often sells: DISPOSABLE CHINA-MADE JUNK! We can't count the number of times we had bought from here and the item came in it's factory sealed retail box BUT missing fasteners and other parts, holes drilled so far off that couldn't get the bolts through one side and lined up with the other, paint started chipping or pealing right from the start or not long after using them, stating they can handle much higher loads than reality allows, tires that wouldn't stay inflated, power tools that started smoking right out of the box or not long after they burned up with normal use.
About the only thing we see now that is pretty well made, for the most part, are things like wrenches and sockets, and some of their pliers seem decent-good BOTTOM LINE, you're better off saving up just a little more and getting a tool/appliance that's guaranteed to get the job done and last for MANY years versus buying china and it breaking right in the middle of having to get a job done!

DON'T be fooled by the "Made In U.S.A." notations, if it's on a BOX or SEALED bag, then THAT object that is actually marked is probably made in the U.S.A. Manufactures have got wise and are relabeling or marking the CONTAINERS of the actual parts as "Made In USA" Some of this stuff is made offshore and then shipped in and packaged. I read recently chicken is leaving the U.S. going offshore, being reprocessed then shipped back in. CHECK the huge bags of Shrimp at Wal-Mart PRODUCT OF CHINA, wife was going to get some till I read that. I told her to NOT buy anything to eat from there.

Sad. Brazil has some good manufacturing and QA for manufactured goods. They make some good tools like knives, files, and firearms. Never had problems with their bearings in my Dodge, but now I'm lucky to get 30,000 miles (often less) on any of the imports from China. I know they can produce blah, blah, blah in ISO 1000 facilities, but they don't; after decades of suffering with it, I am wondering if it isn't intentional. Business majors, salesmen, and other thieves run US manufacturing where engineers used to play a major role.

That bad " China Junk" reputation was given to China by the West. China at any given moment can produce top quality down to bad quality.
It’s the Western, mostly US consumers, who think they can spend 5$ and get value for 10$. The foreign purchasing guys decided how much money they want to spend on x product and they made sure they are getting it. Our USA business mentality is when buyers complaint we can say, "these Chinese made junks" and blame the manufacturer, BUT when the buyers like the product, the companies praise themselves. When it's bad, blame China - when it's good, yup we run a good business. Look at Apple products - only says "Designed in California". They don't tell you where it's made. We ALL know where it's made - CHINA!

You have incomplete and inaccurate information. First and foremost, it is illegal to import tapered roller bearing into the US from China. We do make some spherical roller bearings in China in an TIMKEN plant with TIMKEN employees held to actually higher standards than the US made product. The sourced steel is required to go through multiple inspection and is frequently tested for quality and cleanliness.
As for the seals, we do not own National but we do market their seals and have NO control over where they are produced.
Timken is a premium bearing manufacturer and our standards have not changed.
