- Back in the day, oxtail was specifically the tail of an ox. Today, it can be the tail of any cattle. What used to be considered a throwaway cut of meat is now one of the most expensive, ranging from $4 to $10 per pound. Chef and food blogger Leigh-Ann Martin introduces producer Doyinsola Oladipo to Jamaican Oxtail for the first time at Island Spice Grill food truck in NYC.

Why Oxtail Is A Jamaican Delicacy
Just like lobster was prison food now its one of the most expenive food in the world 💀😴😂 Smh America boul
Those prisoners had it sooo good back then.
@@RockstarEater Thats AMERICA for u
lobster is not expensive unless you live in America or white Europe...
and some parts of Asia...
even then a lot of my friends dive for their owb Lobster which is FREE LMAO
Oxtail is also very popular amongst the African-Americans of the south.
Dam right!
yesssss
here in Chicago also
Right..
Yes, Afro African americans
Damn right. I didnt know anybody outside the United states eat oxtails too.
No Jamaican says rice and beans. Rice and peas all the way, cooked down in coconut milk. Nice foot 🤤
kam morris they had to use the Jamaican brand to get views.. why else would anyone even watch it😺
kam morris lol truuu
Exactly! They should’ve used a Jamaican instead to explain the flavors of the dish than the Trini lady cuz she’s not doing our food any justice. Kmt
No disrespect to Trini's, but they should rep Trinidad more. More than a few of them on CZcams have "caribbean" cooking channels that focus on Jamaican "style" dishes.
AGREED!!!
ITS RICE AND PEAS NOT RICE AND BEANS🤦♂️
PRIS 😆🤣😆 I was thinking the same thing 😆
I thought I was the only one getting annoyed by the rice and bean lol 😂
Peas are basically beans though
@@iAteUrToast it's a technicality....fine... but in the Caribbean (especially Jamaica where it was popularized) it is called "Rice and Peas". Its like asking an Italian the difference between Ketchup and Marinara sauce.
@@iAteUrToast yes but if she's referring to Jamaican way and we call it rice and peas
I'm vegetarian but back when I was a meat eater this was my favorite dish, specially when I used to work at Macy's NYC and go to Golden Krust on 32nd st and 8th ave. Im Dominican and we make a good Oxtail dish but Jamaicans add the sweetness and the attention to tenderness is of primary importance. Sending love to all Jamaicans around the world. ❤️❤️❤️
I brought my wife to Jamaica for our first anniversary last year. She's Ukrainian and never had oxtail before. I was happy to show her a bit of my little country. Took her to a little take out spot in Montego for a plate of oxtail, rice and peas, and steam veggies. I never seen anyone put away some oxtail so fast in my life😂.
Praying for your family!
This video made me want to try oxtail so much!!
@@theonepieceguy9081 thank you. 💯
That was so sweet! Thank you for sharing us a wonderful moment.
The irony of a once cheap throw away meat that is now more expensive than most beef cuts in a market. How on earth does this happen? 🤔
As chefs say, Let no parts of an animal go to waste!
Rockstar Eater I know right. Same thing happened with hanger/skirt steak. Crazy.
I think all the travel shows and celebrity chefs have led to more interest in ethnic foods.
High demand causes the cost and desire for oxtail.
@Grace City LA Try Han Bat Suhlung Tang in Koreatown. Korean oxtail bone soup.
@dipp bunn Might be. Its a mystery even to a foodie like me
She never had ox-tail?....Where is she from Nebraska?
Ik she so blocked from the world
Well someone from Trinidad might ask the same to a person who hasn't had doubles before? (aka me)
Lol she's Nigerian
What are you talking about I live in Nebraska and have had ox tail multiple times we aren’t that disconnected 😂

@Gold & Diamond Mind Gold & Diamond Mind These are white South "Africans".
Big up to all my Caribbean people! I’m Jamaican and I’ve been to other Caribbean countries and learned so much that I now know to make some of their dishes along side my staple Jamaican dishes! Big up to the Trini sista on being so well informed on oxtail. One Love ❤️
I'm Costa rican we eat a lot of oxtail too. It's one of my favorite dishes!
Koreans make an oxtail stew that's very delicious also.
A tale of Oxtails! Seriously though, I grew up in South Africa and I did have and enjoyed Oxtail and these look amazing!

Filipinos eat oxtail too most commonly in a dish called Kare Kare which looks like peanut butter soup. It has oxtail, tripe, pork meat, and various veggies in it. Don't be scared, it is absolutely delicious and is my favorite dish to eat as a child. ❤💕

Yes! My parents made the best oxtail stew!I tried to duplicate but mines comes out soupy.
@@glynismorris2196 The trick to not overcook it and have too much sauce (gravy, in Jamaica) is put a good amount of water at the beginning of cooking and then put smaller and smaller amount as the meal becomes tender.

We do cabbage, yellow rice, carrots and sometimes potatoes. Super good man. Got 3 packs sitting in the freezer rn
I have been salivating over island spice grills’s instagram. I am glad they are getting the recognition they deserve!

So interesting and delicious. Oxtail and hooves are extremely popular in the south of Pakistan too, specially Karachi. Both dishes are also slow cooked, just with some different spices and usually eaten with some kind of tandoori naan.

Oxtail is like Sunday dinner gold

Looks just divine 🥰 not had oxtail in so long
It’s amazing! The best part of the beef. Period!
I live in the south (texas) and i love me some oxtails and comfort/soul food. Its a delicacy because they’re high asf in the store or at the butchers💀
I had my 1st dish of oxetail n it was such a delicacy! It was cooked in a gravy w/peppers, green olives, onions & a red broth! I legit every bit down to the bone! I make Ossa Buca w/lamb shank round bone in the middle & it reminded of that. But, the oxetail was more rich & fatty! So much amazing flavor & it just falls off the bone! I had steamed yuca w/a garlic sauce & cooked onions as a side, steamed veggies & side salad, as I’m on the Keto diet! It was prepared to order in a Cuban Restaurant that is absolutely fantastic! Everything u order there is piping hot & outstanding! It’s called, “Don Carlins” in Sunrise, FL! 5 star ⭐️ Restaurant! Highly recommend if u r ever in Broward County, FL! Yummy 😋! ❤❤
