I went into the building industry in July 1984 as an apprentice carpenter on the strength of the first series. I was 16 years old. 39 years later and im still crackin on. A truly brilliant series. I still watch it now in my van conversion while working away 😊
One of my favourite TV shows. Even today, I can dip into any episode and feel like it was the early 80s. Esp the ITV classics. The BBC ones are okay. But not a patch on the prev series. Sadly, when repeated on channels such as Yesterday or Drama, they are heavily censored due to being shown early afternoon!
I vivdly remembered series 1 and parts of series 2. I never saw the rest originally, so rewatching the later series' now was the first time for me. So glad I was finally able to see them!
Cheers. My family are from Ashington. The men all worked at the Woodhorn colliery. I visited there a couple of years ago and it's now a museum. Fascinating to see what the older generations had to endure as coal miners. My mum has two paintings on her wall by her Great Uncle who was one of the 'pitmen painters'. She's never wanted to part with them.
I thought that was spot on really enjoyed that . I think 1/2 where the best series I to can remember watching this as a kid we where lucky enough to have a Video to tape it just as long as someone put the video to record on the right channel 😂. Loved the ending where you found the juke box scene 😂😂😂 Great work 👍👍👍
This is truly magnificent! An epic!! Must have taken you hours to produce. I must try and get round to watching the first 2 seasons again when I've caught up on recordings whilst I'm away. It needs a re-screening by a decent channel like TPTV or Forces TV so that there are little or no edits. I refuse to watch things that are cut / bleeped / pixilated. The first BBC series was also very good but I didn't much care for later episodes. What's next?
Haha! Yeah it took a while, this one. What's next you say? Well I'm just starting the prep for a Street Hawk video. Should be quicker to produce than the last video, hopefully. 🤞
Loved watching this show as a kid and find it still highly enjoyable to watch. I had a big crush on Dagmar and still go weak at the knees when I see her on screen😀 Series 2 was also great and my mate and I enjoyed doing Ally Fraser impersonations. "Right lads! Get your arseholes over here"
Loved the first series as a 14 yr old and a 50 something, watching the second I was was like "when are they going to go abroad?" but the first half is best now. Weirdly sanitised by the BBC for series 3 - Oz and a russian ballet dancer in S4? It didn't seem real anymore. Still good though. Best bit of the final special was the ferry back to Germany and the classic tune........
The wife and I still watch it every now and then; our joint favourite TV show ever. I like to think I'm Wayne, I'm probably more Neville, but I fear I'm a bit of a raddish.
I'm definitely mostly Neville, with a little bit of Oz, unfortunately. 🤣 Watched all 40 episodes with my wife. She'd never seen any of them. I had to twist her arm but after the first episode she was hooked!
@@RetroSpectives seems likely!, I wish that whole sub plot wasn't in the last series, a bit daft if you ask me. and just seems a shame when they still can, know what I mean?
Great retrospective, Auf Wiedersehen Pet is an absolute classic... but please NEVER try to do another Geordie accent. This Geordie's ears are bleeding. 😉😂
could not get into series 3 to 5,lost it,s authenticity for me.1 and 2 will forever go down as classic tv.i,am from amble in northumberland and waa twangz neerly the syem,if you can undorstand that, weel dun !!!
This was one show that my whole family would all sit down together and watch on Friday nights.
Exactly the same .. my entire family.

Proper life-changing, then. I used to watch Prisoner Cell Block H a lot. I'm glad it didn't have that effect on me. 😆
My favourite TV program of all time 👏🏻
An oldie but a goodie, as they say.

Yeah, it's definitely worth making sure you're watching the uncut versions.
BEST REVIEW OF SUCH A CLASSIC BRITISH SERIES! Love this review, your channel content and now a subscriber.
Thanks for that. It was great to look back on old memories of the show.
@@RetroSpectives and you did it so well too, very thorough and insightful 👏 loved it with all the trivia and special links too
Thanks x
You're welcome. 😉👍
Best show ITV ever had in my opinion!!!
Nice vid Steve 👌
Thanks, and I'm inclined to agree; definitely one of the best.
My favourite show of all time
Brilliant man .
Howay the lads!
Loved this thank you.👍cant remember series 2 though. Can't believe it started in 1983!

Great video Steve. Like you, happy memories watching this with my mum and dad, who was a Geordie exile in the northwest.

Wayne is my favourite
Gotta be Oz for me. Wouldn't be the same without him.
best tv show ever i remember seeing them filming in puerto banus years ago i was 16
Must be awesome having that memory of actually being there at the time.
Quality! Nice accents mate😀
Cheers. Hopefully not too inappropriate! 🤣
@@RetroSpectivesMore like non too accurate. 😂 Enjoyable vid though
Gotta try these things. It's all good fun! 🤣

I'm not familiar with that - must have been after mid 80s when I gave up watching TV save the odd programme. Good luck.

Shame Dennis had to leave Dagmar, especially considering how his wife ended up dumping him anyway.
Great shows! but the one in the Boro about transporting the Transporter was laughable! 😉
I thought that initially, but went with it and enjoyed the episodes.

@@CBitsTech No, not that. A LITTLE bit of Oz, but I'm not saying which bits. 😂
@@RetroSpectives I don't want to think about it 😁
Here's hoping they can do another series :(
Fat chance .. I like to imagine Neville did well for himself and became a police detective. Changed his name to Lewis.

I'd be up for watching that.
Val McLane (Sister of Dennis in season 2) is Jimmy Nail's sister
I did not know that! 🙂
