    I never really cared for this show but this test reel put a big stupid smile on my face. Lost in Space was always meant to be animated like this where Star Trek wasn't. The broadness and farcical nature of the show complements the 2 dimensional retro style of animation perfectly. This is how this show should have been produced to begin with. Imagine all those outrageous things in the show that looked stupid in live action that an animated presentation such as this could have redeemed. If Fox never goes forward with this idea some fan should. This could be the Lost in Space show the way it was always meant to be.

    • @imfsresidentotaku9699
      @imfsresidentotaku9699 Před 2 lety

      Nowhere does it say that Lost in Space "was always meant to be animated like this," and just because you think that "this is how this show should have been produced to begin with" won't make it so. "The broadness and farcical nature of the show" works in live action, and it's not like the show was always farcical. It started out as serious science fiction, then in the second season, it got campier to compete with Batman, which was airing in the same time slot. If Batman could pull it off successfully, surely a science fiction show like this where anything is possible could too. "Imagine all those outrageous things in the show that looked stupid in live action..." Speak for yourself. The outrageous stuff works out perfectly fine in live action, and part of what makes the show (along with a lot of shows from the 60's) enjoyable. There's a certain charm of that stuff being done in live action that just can't be attained in animation. It doesn't need to be "redeemed." The Lost in Space show that "was always meant to be" already aired back in the 60's, and there's nothing you can say or do about it. And the way you wrote your comment makes it seem as if you're certain that everyone will agree with what you're saying and won't wildly object to it. If you say the style of the show would've translated well to animation, that's fine, but saying that the show should've been animated to begin with suggests that the cartoon should be an outright replacement for the original, which is kooky talk. Audiences would've been robbed of the campiness in its live action glory.
      Besides, Star Trek was made into a cartoon because The Original Series was cancelled. The Animated Series smartly took advantage of its format by doing things that would've been unfeasible or uneconomical in live action at the time. In fact, despite the meager payment for writers ($1,300 per script, with no residuals), the opportunity to write a Star Trek episode without the special effects limitations of live action proved appealing, and many of The Original Series writers joined the staff.

    I am so impressed that someone went to the elaborate time and trouble to produce this very clever interpretation of the 60’s series. Also it’s highly evocative of the quintessence as Dr. Smith would say of the style and sound of the original live action production. Personally I might have gone with the 1964 Jonny Quest esthetic but this is an exciting sizzle reel.

    @CruisingTipsDotCom Před 3 lety +3

    Wow. I've now watched the opening credit sequence here approximately 30 times... it is sheer perfection. What's interesting is that these credits really reflect what the show became - whether it was the original intention or not. For example, Will, Penny, Dr. Smith and the Robot each get a little intro box... while the adults are sort of thrown in at the end. The robot getting a dancing box is another example of this would-be show, even in the credits, understanding exactly what it is. Of course, these are also all the problems I had with the show (aside from the pilot), because I wanted something less campy, less kiddie, less Dr. Smith focused. But geez, these are brilliant.
