- NOTE: this video is 5 years old, there are easier/cheaper methods to put in a backlight since then. I'm currently using an LED back light kit for the Turnigy 9x from HK:

Just a quickie about my mod on the DX6i with some EL panels I got from eBay. - Jak na to + styl
You can leave the silver stuff which is pretty bright fro me. And if you think it's not bright enough remove it. but it was a pita to get that stuff off. I got my panels and inverters from ebay as well.
@greggsmith21
I didn't tape it. It's just held in place by the original plastic bracket.
Thanks for your understandable video. Done my Sanwa Mt4 today. Very satisfying!
@jamantste
I have a 12V inverter but the instructions for it say that I can input 6V-12V, just it's dimmer for lower V. Since it's converting from DC to AC, 6VDC would convert to 174VAC and 12VDC to 476VAC, 9VDC to 257VAC. I think it'll be the same. Output to AC would be the same regardless if your inverter was 9V or 12V.
Thanks a lot! worked like a charm! and I didnt notice any difference in battery life.
@WickedTRX
There is a slight hum when it's quiet. But I don't notice it especially when I'm outside.
Thank you very much buddy..... I should say your Video is excellent cause, it saved us alot of money and we've learnt how to install a EL Panel Backlight.
Thanks again...

@boywaimea
yes you can cut it. I'd tape the edges though with clear tape.
@Chandiramo
If you solder to the points I mentioned in the video, ON/BAT contact points, if I recall, it'll supply enough voltage. I used a 12V inverter. they work from 6V-12V, it'll just be dimmer with a lower voltage. if you look at my video, you'll see it's pretty bright even when it's not 12V.
Get the Tech4RC backlight for dx61 on ebay. About $20 US. Very easy to install, plug and play, you just need screwdrivers for the screws.
@boywaimea
When the transmitter is on, the light is on. But you can probably add a switch to turn of the light if you want. I just chose not to.
@travisbarron1
I got them all from eBay.
Awesome video! Can you give me exact links to the EL panels?
Just saw your mod today, it's been some time now. Is there any different products or procedures you would use.
@kenv98 Thanks a lot!
Super,
Before ordering, could you explain, during installation, is there a film to remove , wich ? and where do you connect the power of backlight on the DX6i ?
Thank you
where did you buy the material......great video
Hey man. I've taken the LCD panel from a TTX850 and want to add it to my DX6i. Where did you purchase the inverter, or what are the specs of it?
@boywaimea
I hope you didn't remove the polarization layer....
since it has an inverter to convert DC in AC, and it's clearly audible in the movie you've made, Have you noticed any noise when operating?
Since I did this my models started acting up one by one. The voltage on some models would fluctuate every half second for about .3V. When this happens I can't bind anymore so I would use another model. I'm down to 3 working models now and I only have 3 helis! Could the EL's be causing this?
so the EL panel just slips behind the LCD?
How much will you charge if I shipped my remote and pay you for parts and doing the mode.
@jamantste
Probably be dimmer though.
@tonyastro
Search for this guy virtualvillage-uk-rho on eBay. He sells the panel + inverter for $12.50.
Hi! I actually purchase all the same parts on ebay! :P Im thinkin of doing this to my dx3s. I realy whantet an other coller but can finf it any where so. so you say its best to not remove the silver shit on the display? im at a german site i think, and he shows that he dos this. cant seem to finde any other inverters ither,
Hi there... i'm not sure about the inverter.. Our DX6i is 4 x 1.2v batteries = 4.8v total
But there's only 12v Inverters in the ebay. Are those the correct Inverters, kindly give me the details and the name for the Inverter you showed in the Video...
Thank you very very much...
@travisbarron1
Just do an ebay search for "el inverter ac dc"
thank you for your reply. could you provide the sellers info or ebay info...I have been looking and cant find the products especially the inverter..Thank you
im late to this game, any idea the links to the correct ebay purchases?
This is a really old video but you can modify one of these to work with the dx6i I think.

S.O.L.D.E.R..get it????
I'm sorry, but correct me if I'm wrong. But you said all the parts would be $20, but the first part, the back light you just said it was $50.
And WHY do you feel the need to have the display illuminated, are you gona fly in the dark
all in one unit google search Turnigy 9X LCD Backlight Kit - Green (DIY) (or blue)
its a way easier mod!!!
Total cost is only 5$ your welcome
