i tried this too,
my luck was really good as i made it till top 15 with the mech and then a player got into my mech. Then together we made it to top 2.
As he was helping me i had to kill him so we dont get banned. It was tons of fun!

Mechs aren't even a challange anymore. It's kind of annoying, so they should buff the health up a couple hundred. Considering they nerfed the gun Reload Time, boost Reload Time, and jump.
