@@WieDrDerJongeyou don't know about dieselmekenen pumps, and fastspool valves from what I see. A built om606 is super reliable, 1.5bars at 1500rpm, 2 bars at 2000rpm 😉 Futur engine of my gq patrol
@@adrienmessuwe2040 Yes, they are very expensive. And it is still a high revving engine. M57's makes way more torque down low and that is what you want in a 4WD. OM606 is nice but it is more the hype around it that makes it famous. The Merc guys just don't like that there is also a BMW engine that is as good (or even better).
@@WieDrDerJonge personally, I have tested a built om606, td42, and 350hp m57 swapped patrol. The om606 was better in every aspect... Torque, hp, reliability (we have seen wheelspins in 4wd in dry pavement, where built td42 or m57 don't do it). Personally, it'll be a built om606, good for 450whp, and tons of low end torque 😁. Also, you don't want any kind of electronics when you go on 1.5m high water holes 😉. (like om606 with 603 pumps) For us in Europe, you can have them for free basically (by buying a complete car and selling not needed items).
Havent fully watched the video but the E53 x5's have a diesel heater from factory so you could use that in your build to heat up your caravan, shop etc
Ah wish you guys got photos or videos on how to take the body off. Cant find any info wanted to swap mine with a ln167 cab. Wanted see if it was within my skill set ahah
My ln106 is unbreakable, 600k and still running the original fuel pump from factory never rebuilt and still as reliable as the day I bought it.. Never got anywhere fast and I was always last, but i always made it in the old slowlux
Nice to see someone in Oz being different and using a German engine. I'm sure others have but first time I've seen it from an Aussie CZcamsr. Be nice if the X5 interior fits the Hilux. Especially the dash as that'd make the old Hilux a much nicer place to be 😊
Change the exhaust manifold regardless. The stock ones are thin stainless and crack all the time! Ebay have heaps of cheap cast iron ones for under $100.
Unlucky you didn't keep the m57 engine mounts. They're vacuum controlled and go soft when under 60km/h and under 1200rpm. Fairly noticeable between failed and functioning. Extra unnecessary luxury though
The Arab boys got it beat I'm afraid, wanna see a fast hilux and an even faster lowlux then go there and look at some monster 2J's and methanol drinking nitrous huffing blown V8's 😂 But I appreciate it none the less
All the aussies in the comments who only know toyota and nissan engines 😅. The M57 is one of the most reliable and powerful diesel engines out there. Its tough as they come. The X5 is let down by pretty much everything else in the car, but not its engine 😂
OK guys, I'm gonna remove one of the most reliable engines ever made by human kind and replaced it by some random engine that nobody trusts because it has more power. Good idea man, good idea
😂😂 a random engine that nobody knows??? The M57 is widely regarded as the most bulletproof diesel bmw engine ever built. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean 'nobodys" heard of it.
@@ryandevillers214 like you said, most reliable from BMW not the most reliable period. in my years knowing BMW the diesels ones were never known to be reliable, performance yes, complicated yes, problematic absolutely. they were made for road use in luxury cars wit easy access to mechanics not off road abuse
@gabrielgomescunha my main point is that it is no 'random' engine. It's become extremely popular as an engine swap for off-road use given its torque and reliability. Please just do some research before you assume it's just like 'every other bmw' engine you no doubt heard things about through other people. Diesels in European cars have actually been some of the best going around. Check out any of the mercedes E-class taxis in Germany with over 1 million kms on the clock
@@ryandevillers214 Dude... I'm from Portugal, I've only had diesel cars, I have right now a Volvo v70 II with a D5252T, a cousin had one that past the million KM. My previous car was a Opel corsa 1.5 TD from 1992 with a Isuzu T4EC1 that I still have and runs after over 20 years of abuse and poor maintenance. From all the mechanics I know, including 2 cousins and diesel enthusiasts none of them like diesel BMW's they all prefer the petrol versions that are way more reliable. It might be a popular in your circle but not in any of the ones I know.
@gabrielgomescunha 'my circles'. If by that you mean the entire educated car enthusiast community. We can agree to disagree, but if you even just research without writing any engine names, the most widely recognised most reliable diesel engines, the M57 is always listed. My main point once again, is that you called the M57 an engine that 'no one even knows about', which is completely wrong.

M57's are great! In Europe they put them in everything, from Ford Transits to Volvo 240's and from 1950's Chevy Pickups to L200's.
High pressure pumps are a bit shitty on m57, better do om606.
@@adrienmessuwe2040 Nah. OM606 is an antique, very very expensive motor without low down torque that needs to rev to make power.

Not even 30 seconds into a video from a dude I’ve never watched and I’m crying. Beautiful into. Really got in my feelings
Bra Yous do the most Frankenstein builds it's mad 😂
Pretty common engine swap
@@trueaussie3097 not for a hilux
I've been watching for 2 years & found out yesterday that I worked with your mum for most of that. Small world! 😂
Well TJ has got some competition
Would love to see an Aussie pre runner build
Imagine that with extra cab instead of single cab. More usable space. So much better 👌👌

Hahaha. My daughter’s car written off by a bus doing a 3 point turn in a one way st. Great car with a strong motor.

Auto's are the Manjinas of the automotive industry.
I actually forgot about Monique
what happened to her?
No ones saying..
Should put a Hilux motor in a BMW ✔️
The Hi-BM is going to look sick when finished
Nice! I recently put a merc om605 in my 1999 hilux here in the UK. Makes about 300hp ish
Yes! Ok ya finally got me.. I subscribed.. Cheers boys!
Cheers legend!
Video should be titled "How to make a reliable truck, unreliable"
yeh boys!! keen to see it in full braap mode
ive got similar plans but going the mercedes counterpart picked up a OM605 for my 1984 hilux
What happened to the radius bush style engine mount?
M57 🔛🔝
Best intro ever
If you think an M-57 revs , you should check out an OM-606 .
bring back monique
Hey sam you ever going to bring back the old Style hoodie
should of put a vw tourag 10 cylinder diesel in it
Planes for the rear diff and drive train to handle the power increase? Mates 1kz ln106 couldn’t handle 200HP let alone 400,
Wear respirator when painting frame sport
I've got a m57 GQ
No need to remove the sump to trim it
I wish they made these factory
What happened to Monique? Is she still a part of bnb?
Love my M5730D if the car gets written off ive got a ED wagon i would love to wack in......instead off a Barra
Was made for it! 👌
Currently putting a vg30t in mine with a td42 box! Takes up alot of room 😂
If you happen to have the x5 still im after the rear differential!
Do you lads have many Mercedes 606 diesels over your way?
bye bye hilux diffs haha
Yeah that’s gonna be an issue… hahah

Like all good sheds. Never finished.

Welcome :)
Noice. I have a vzn167 (petrol)
Where did Monique go?
Hopefully not coming back
How long will it go it for, the hilux does more hard work than X5
