  • Brig. Surinder Singh speaks out: “Kargil fiasco happened because Generals wore blinkers. At whose behest were they doing that, I wondered? Young officers and jawans turned the tide by making the supreme sacrifice. I am fighting for my honour and to bring the generals responsible for the loss of 550 soldiers and maiming of another 1300.”

Sir I was in 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in Dras at that time. Brigedier Devinder and Brigedier Surinder sir are the real heroes of Kargil war but they were not given that much of credits as vthe really deserved. The two Generals one Div and one Corps Commanders were the persons behind it. They hid their mistake of not trusting the subordinates inputs given to them. They misunderstood or misjudged the situation which resulted in heavy loss to the Army.

After having served in Mushkoh valley and Northern Siachen Glacier as young officer during the period(1997-98) immediately preceding Kargil war, I find myself totally disillusioned and cheated today after learning about the kind of professional dishonesty of the entire chain of command from Division upwards prevailing at the time. In my views there can’t be a greater sin that men in uniform can commit. My best wishes to Brig Surinder Singh in his fight for justice. The truth will ultimately prevail!!

Yes. Being second generation and living all my life in an all army set up I have seen and known generals very closely. Budhwar and Krishanpal are not an aberration but more or less the norm. HM Khanna the GOCnC was equally responsible. And the biggest one was NC Vij the DGMO later chief who orchestrated all the COIs and GCMs

Yes - Brig Surinder Singh is all talking sense!! Few Generals - primarily Gen Pal and Budhwar are the main culprits!! Indian Army - must have taken action against these but unfortunately - nothing happened. Even Gen Mallik’s book does not talk about any such lapses. A pure cover up - I didn’t complete the reading and left it midway! Similar things happened with Brig Devinder Singh too.
My respects to Brig Devinder - and unfortunately his appeal is still pending with Army Tribunal. Seems no one is interested in fixing the responsibility. It is definitely not good for the Army as an institution! GOI must take cognisance of these facts and something must be done to stem this wrought rather going after Rahul Gandhi and gaining TRP. Would request MODI JI /RAJNATH JI to look into these facts and bring out the real culprits.

The problem with our Army is that we don't like to introspect even when it is a win. When such a massive incursion happened in 1999 there is no way intelligence failure is only to be blamed. There have been enough lapses from the Army which need to be introspected so that we don't commit such mistakes in future.
As a citizen we support the Army in all cases. It does not mean that there are no flaws in our Army. We should embrace such deficiencies and correct them. No point in living the life of an ostrich.

HE SHOULD UPLOAD a comprehensive chronology of the Kargil War, incorporating all the details ALONG WITH PROOFS IN A WEBSITE. Here's the expanded chronology:
    1998
May: India and Pakistan conduct nuclear tests, escalating tensions.
July: Tensions further escalate between India and Pakistan following the nuclear tests.
November: According to Ajit Doval (former Intelligence Bureau chief), Indian intelligence first detects Pakistani activities in Kargil sector.
    1999
January-February: Major Manish Bhatnagar claims Indian Army's 121 Brigade receives reports of Pakistani intrusions but dismisses them.
February: Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif sign the Lahore Declaration, aimed at de-escalating tensions.
March: Brigadier Surinder Singh reportedly sends a report to higher authorities warning of possible infiltration.
April 13: According to Brigadier Devinder Singh, he briefs senior commanders about Pakistani build-up and possible attacks.
Late April: Indian patrols observe unusual movements and infiltration across the Line of Control (LoC).
    May 1999
May 3: Local shepherds alert Indian Army to infiltrators in Kargil district.
May 5: Captain Saurabh Kalia and his team are captured and killed by infiltrators.
May 9: Pakistani forces begin heavy artillery shelling, targeting National Highway 1A.
May 10: Infiltrations detected in Dras, Kaksar, and Mushkoh sectors.
May 15: Indian Army launches operations to evict infiltrators.
May 18: India mobilizes more troops to the region and starts air reconnaissance missions.
    June 1999
June 1: Indian Air Force (IAF) launches air strikes under Operation Safed Sagar, targeting Pakistani positions.
June 5: Indian forces identify the extent of the infiltration, revealing that it includes regular Pakistani troops.
June 9: Indian Army recaptures two key positions, Tololing and Point 4590, in the Dras sector.
June 13: Indian Army captures Point 5140, gaining a strategic advantage in the Dras sector.
June 15: US President Bill Clinton urges Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to withdraw Pakistani forces from Indian territory.
    July 1999
July 2: Indian Army begins recapture of Tiger Hill after fierce fighting.
July 4: Indian forces secure Tiger Hill, a key strategic peak.
July 11: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announces the withdrawal of Pakistani troops from the Indian side of the LoC.
July 14: Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declares Operation Vijay a success and confirms that most of the intrusions have been cleared.
July 26: Officially marked as Kargil Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) in India. The Indian Army announces the complete eviction of Pakistani infiltrators from the Indian side of the LoC.
    Post-War
August 1999: Both India and Pakistan continue to reinforce their positions along the LoC.
November 1999: Indian Army conducts an internal review of the conflict and identifies lapses in intelligence and operational procedures.
2000 onwards: India strengthens its border defenses and infrastructure to prevent similar infiltrations in the future.
    Key Operations
Operation Vijay: The Indian Army's code name for its operations to clear the Kargil sector of intrusions.
Operation Safed Sagar: The Indian Air Force's operation involving air strikes against infiltrator positions.
Operation Talwar: The Indian Navy's operation to blockade Pakistani ports and exert pressure on Pakistan.
    Key Points of Contention
Early Warnings: Doval, Bhatnagar, and both Brigadiers Singh claim that there were earlier indications of Pakistani activities, potentially as early as November 1998.
Dismissal of Reports: Some accounts suggest that early warnings were not taken seriously by higher authorities.
Preparedness: These alternative chronologies imply that India could have been better prepared if early warnings had been heeded.
Intelligence Failure: The discrepancies between official and alternative timelines highlight potential intelligence and communication failures within the Indian security establishment.
This chronology incorporates both the official narrative and the alternative accounts provided by various military officials. It highlights the complexity of the situation leading up to and during the Kargil War, as well as the ongoing debates about intelligence, preparedness, and decision-making during this period.

Unlike Indian generals, who remain embedded under their obnoxiously looking medal ridden, shiny shoes, crisply ironed uniforms. First India’s needs to get rid of this British era mentality and has to teach its general that they are employed for war not as corporates to be sit in aircon rooms wearing turgid clothes, unsuitable for military doctrine.

Most of Our generals are undeserving. They do not have any vision and secondly they do not listen to anything which is practical and sensible. Even today ,nothing has changed.

Should Gen Malik be made accountable for this loss? I think these soldiers can only get justice when we start fixing accountability top down.

My father served with him in Kargil, back when all hell broke loose.Brig Surinder Singh and Col MS Kukshal,CO 4 Jat would have been recognised as war heroes if not for BJP and Army leadership in the form of Gen Malik,Budhwar and Kishan Pal saving own backside.
Not a single extrapolation from the gentleman,in a different country VP Malik and budhwar would have been sacked for their incompetency and Brig Surinder would have picked up the next rank/s.

  • @navneetgill7075
    @navneetgill7075 Před měsícem +1

The casualties in Kargil war would have been much less had the brigade commanders and generals been competent, pro-active and maintained a very good communication network between brigades and corps. Initial reports of massive incursion by Pakistanis were ignored or held back. Brig Surinder was singled out by the clique of errant generals for the blame.

Great Soldier again getting let down by his very own institution and senior officers!! The more I see such stories of patriotic officers being made scapegoat for mistakes of their seniors, my respect for Army as an institution also goes down as it is not as sacred as we think it to be.

These kind of true files should be brought to public domain extensively. So that civilians should know what is going on at our borders and the mistakes are committed by few top highly respected army Generals. They are having good time at borders at the cost of young jawans and officers. It is a pity . My salute to Brigadier Surinder Singh. His honour should be restored. I think Government is misled by these corrupt and coward Generals.

True. This Major General is responsible for concealing information of enemy intrusion since January 1999, manipulating reports and returns and Gen VP Malik for shoving under carpet his guilt that cost more than 520 lives and thousands disabled.

04:20 You were not been taking about the war. The people who were taking, knew nothing about Kargil.
5:30 The posting has been changed to 121 Brigade. That was to be taken over by Bgd Bardwal ,
5:40 Bgd Bardwal refused to take over ,later on he became a General.

Incompetence at senior levels is disastrous....have we learned from this? We lost such fine officers/soldiers....who is responsible for 527 deaths? Army is one such institution where accountability should be equal at all levels. Just because you are a General does NOT guarantee immunity.

The people in authority save their skin by making their subordinates the scapegoat, must really require some thick skin to do that, relationships at work place thriving over professionalism is a sad story from offices to frontiers.
