This is perfect for looking at the ceiling at 3 am. Seriously the concept of just drowning as a musical form seemed so interesting to me, maybe its because i almost died of drowning once when i was 12 years old at a river(was at a family party basically some random person just so happened to help me out, lucky me i guess...). Somehow after this point I wanted to go swimming and trained for like 5 years until i got tired of it, shit became exhausting and i didn't know what to do with my life. Im now currently 19 and want to pursue music and ive finally got the courage to just try it out(playing bass guitar for 4 months as of writing and trying out daws for now). At this point, at this time, at this hour, I hope just for everything in my life to be at well. Thanks Boris, I cant stress enough how important your music is for me as of now.
I've checked out many Boris albums but somehow slept on this one for no apparent reason. Now I can confidently say that this is my favorite album from them.
My own personal interpretation is that the first riff on the album is the first human tribe. The second overlapping riff is the second tribe and the complication of the overlapping rhythms represents conflict between different groups as human beings proliferate and overrun the world. The reverbed-out drumming at the end of Flood I is nature reclaiming its own order through rainfall and the actual "Flood" occurring. Flood II is the bittersweet peace felt by the earth after mankind has been brought back to its proper place in nature, their everyday rivalries and strife transcended by their fight for survival against nature. It ends suddenly, as Flood III represents humankind rebuilding its cruel machinations, innocent and beautiful at first, but with a sinister undertone. The peak of Flood III is the annihilation of the natural order and the destruction of any notion of oneness with the world, echoing only the tragedy of the flood and the full heaviness of mortality overtaking the spirit. Flood IV is the empty banality of existence marching on as mortality slowly sits in. The violent oceans ripple out into a calm. Heavier than a tsunami.
No idea why people are complaining about Flood I, it's a perfect start. I feel it's more hypnotic if it slowly eases in rather than all at once. This album isn't exactly easy listening and complaining about the length is missing the point imo.
This album cured my headache, and I am not even exaggerating. I considered this day to be very stressful and filled with unlucky events, but finding this band and album had my day redeemed. My headache is also gone. 25:08 Well, the guitar calls. Gotta stop typing and let it take me over! Enjoy the music everyone.
I was doing a long hike on my own through the Lake District in the UK and was listening to this album. I was climbing this steep hill next to a waterfall, where a stone staircase had been sort of built into the side of the hill. As I got to the summit the riff kicked in at 35:00. It was one of the greatest moments of my life
This is what I'd crash out to in my final years of high school during the many days of sleep deprivation. Brings me back to that same stressed out head space listening to this, god.

You can argue whether it drones too much, but it doesn't stop me from considering this a 10/10 of master piece. Everything flows so well together. I will have to say though while each part is amazing in their own way, I have to give it to Flood 3 when it gets heavy for being one of the greatest climaxes in music. Its super heavy and intense and the chord progression gives it both this apocalyptic and triumphant feeling that leaves me in awe. It's like a bitter sweet ending to a story where the hero slays the threat, but the world around them is reduced to ruin and all they loved is now ash. Once again, absolutely fantastic.
Flood 3 especially blows my mind everytime, I cant get enough of it. Every moment before is leading to the explosion of the Flood and every moment after is the aftermath.

amazingly good album by one hell of a good band.
MAHH NAMMAA JEFFFFF
Flood III is a musical masterpiece and quite possibly their best song (then again every week there’s another Boris song I would say is their best). This ain’t my favorite Boris album but damn is that song so good.
This is my favorite instrumental album of all, so damn good
It isn't instrumental lol
@@Jonnydc93 it’s instrumental for like 95% of it. Close enough
@@rashotcake6945 thank you
This & Dronevil is my definitely my favourite album of all time. Just pure bliss from start to the end.
This album on hallucinogenic substances. Get ready to see god.
Cool to see OP still alive, hope you have a good day
absolutely draining emotional rollercoaster
This is great, very ambient and pretty sounding, but I'd say I still like Feedbacker more. The guitar work in it is just mind blowing.
Modern take on the "Tales From Topographic Oceans". Except this is good.
Best album for sleeping
Good album to sleep to. Very relaxing drone.
It's been 3 years and I still cry for this song
Flood I will be stuck in my head forever. that is the drone of the ocean older than time. they nailed it
This is the first time I’ve ever listened to an album an legitimately felt the NEED to headbang. Shit, Flood 3 might just be the greatest moment in music of all time
Too real
Girldick is mad underrated bro
@Napalm what’s wrong man? Can’t hang?
Totally
Agree
Spill the facts brother
When I clicked on this video I thought it was a cover of They Might Be Giants’ astonishing 1990 album Flood.
Epic outro.
The slowly way that Boris are playing is geniously a pure nirvana
and they’re influenced by Nirvana 😎
It's so progressively dissonant like a pattern of pieces of wood being mixed around to the point they eventually reach each their own original resting place in the stream of endless rainwater. And is that buildings and structures giving way to the flood I hear on occasion?
finally gonna see them live tomorrow...
How did it go? Asking this 3 years later
@@Ok-tl1dvhow do you think it went? Asking this 9 months later
@@meatgrinder9506 probably pretty good
Listening to this for the first time in the dark and cold staring at the stars.
Favorite album of all time.
Flood II is pure golden bliss
The best Boris! Gonna go see them next weekend, next to no chance they will play any of this but there’s always hope
You definitely hear more Versatlity on this ...i loved "Amplifier Worship" but "Boris" here they are way more than just "Drone Metal" 🐆
this sounds so strange i fucking love it
So good every single time
An absolute classic.
Absolutely Marvelous.
So thhhiiiissssss is magic. Got it
as a stoner this was quite an experience, fucking loved it.
i always come back 2 this
Best Boris album.
Boris played with White noise … how incredible… 56:16 it’s like running water
This is pure bliss
Album dunked me in the ocean and let me chill there weightless
My favorite Boris album for sure.
