    I had the Original Google Home WIFI and while it worked for awhile we started having issues after a few years of use. The units or nodes never moved however would start having quality issues. It was a good system when it worked. We had 4 of the google home units and no matter what they just wouldn't cover the distance we needed. Reluctantly, due to google not having ethernet ports on the back of the units for the 2nd Generation, we decided to try a different brand.
    We went with the TP-Link Deco X20, you get 3 Routers for $180 and I was surprised at how well they work. We also ran Ethernet backhaul to 2 out of 3 rooms and that has been stellar. If you have the ability to run ethernet backhaul to your google Wi-Fi or other mesh routers you should definitely do so. One of the abilities that TP-LINK has for our particular setup that google does not is the ability to turn off either the 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ network essentially forcing a device to switch to the other band.
    My main PC once I upgraded the WIFI card to a WIFI 6 unit ( Also from TP-Link) had a dramatic increase in WIFI speed going from 150Mbps to 500Mbps consistently.

    The speedtest is not based on the Wi-Fi. It is based on the Nest router to modem alone. Do your speedtest via a browser and it will vary.

    So nice to finally see an upgrade to these. Definitely the ones I would buy. Only thing I don't get is why they don't combine these with a mini speaker like the old ones.

    • @JohnOBryan
      @JohnOBryan Před rokem +4

      They said it was due to people placing them in the home where they wanted a speaker vs where they would perform best as a router/mesh system. This impacted the system's performance.

    Hey Tim... The internet speed test you did was from the router itself, so that was a wired test🙂 you have to use another app or website to test the speed from eg your phone.

    Does this new one give the ability to administer to the router device via a web application using a browser? -or- can you only administer using the phone app? I have the older version of this router and only being able to administer using the phone app is the one major thing I do not like about this router. Using the advanced DNS or DHCP settings is a pain using just the phone app. What a pain.

    I'm so confused as to how many of these devices I should get. I know that it says 2200 sq/ft but I have a current aaus router that covers the house but sometimes the external home products fall off. I thought mesh might help but also chatting with support I get advised I don't want to many because I don't want to cause congestion. The placements and configuring for a non networking person, I'm really confused as to what I need. As last time I tried to get a mesh network using orbi I caused my thermostats to drain because they were bouncing between mesh points. but also a known or discussed item on the orbi forums... So for. a use I would rally like to make this mesh network for roaming and such using a wired backhaul but kind of stumped and sticker shocked as to what I should grab because the larger packs get you the discount to make it friendlier than having to buy more later.... So I guess do I buy a 3 pack, setup one and then let it settle before adding others and then work with maybe family if they can use any of the extra points nt used for thier homes? Thanks.... - The confused! lol
