In many ways, she and Azula are the same. Both Azula and Makima are dedicated to their goals and will use anyone to achieve them, but they're both sad individuals who have a desire to be accepted. I think the key is that you get moments where it ALMOST seems like Makima is going to wake up and realize there's people who care about her, but Azula doesn't have those moments. Everyone around her was terrified of her.
Exactly. Makima was so close to having genuine connections to others, I think she ended up psyching herself out of them. SPOILERS She thought that the only way she would ever feel that sort of love was by forcefully ripping Pochita from Denji, when in reality she passed over Denji's genuine love for her and the comradery of her people.
Btw after reading the manga, i guess she actually did die on that train but came back or did i get it wrong? I originally thought she manipulated their senses to think they shot her

That effect highlights how I felt about makima from the rip...... She pulls up in a blacked out Toyota Crown with two MIB on her side and says she's with "public safety"???? GTFO..... We in America already KNOW what time it is when black suits show up. But....... On the flip side of the coin, German makima?!?!? Woof! 🥵
