    Sorry for the inconsistent audio on this one. Had some technical issues during recording and tried to smooth it out as best I could (lesson learned: never update mic firmware prior to recording!). August is going to be an exciting content month for me and this shoe is going to be a large part of that.

    Without a doubt, the best long run shoe I’ve ever owned, whatever the pace. In addition to simply being a joy to run in, it’s combination of light weight and cushioned, responsive ride add up to me feeling better/more recovered the next day than in any other shoe

    You really nailed it with this review on these excellent shoes. Did an 18k progression run with the shoes today, from warm up easyish to tempo, then marathon and then HM pace and even a nice 10K pace for the last K. These shoes felt incredible. Don’t like it as much though for the slow/recovery runs or specific and shorter interval/threshold runs. But that’s OK, have other shoes for that

      The shoe shines on longer and harder runs, for sure…. But I do like it on the east side of running too, especially in a marathon build. Outside of training for a marathon I would pick a more traditional daily trainer for easy runs…

    This is the shoe of the year for me. I’ve never had a shoe I wanted to consistently pick-up and run in. I own quite a few pairs of running shoes. It’s quite versatile. The foam is excellent. It rebounds quite fast. I took it for a 11 mile tempo run yesterday and it’s awesome. The next day, I’m not as sore. I use it for easy runs, tempo work, and intervals with a minimum of 400m meters @ 5k pace. I wouldn’t use it on intervals below 400m. It just feels clunky. I can’t believe how light it is for its foam stack.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem

      I did 200s and 300s in this… while not the shoe I’d ultimately pick it did very well.
      Recovery is a key thing about this shoe. My legs feel great after a long run in them, though I can say the same about ZoomX too… but my feet and toes felt perfect afterward… something I can’t always say about ZoomX.

  • @TimGrose
    @TimGrose Před rokem +2

    I had the exact same initial thoughts about the Novablast 3 partly as initially felt my normal TTS US 14 was too long (and so too wide) for me, bought a US 13 as well (not sure why!) then thought maybe the one in the middle they don't do would have been ideal but have gone back to the bigger one anyway. Oddly though although very light for what it is always found it felt heavier than the scales said when running so just do the odd easy run in them. ASICS don't cater for US 14 feet in their "super" line up so this Superblast and the Metaspeed ones are off limits to me but the Superblast is one perhaps one I wished could have swopped for my 2 Novablasts as generally seems well liked. Invincible 3 I never got as although I used the 1 a fair bit, "easy" runs in it always felt harder work than they should have been as it is heavy and clumpy for me. The 2 I got but so similar to the 1 then started to get odd knee twinges when using it so have rather stopped using any of them and so largely why I passed on the 3. Seems to have divided opinion but you seem to think it is the best one for sure. Maybe one to look at if see on discount as I never really like to pay full price on "older" shoes just to try them out as it were.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem +3

      I do think the Invincible 3 is the best version yet. However I have pretty much completely gone back to the Pegasus for easy and long runs in a Nike. The Peg just feels better and is more fun for me to run in.
      However the Superblast is a better training shoe than the Invincible ever was. The Invincibles have always been nice for easy running and not much more. The Invincible 3 is much more capable and versatile but it is heavy… and in your size you’d likely need to go back to the brick works.
      The Superblast is just a more capable shoe overall. If I didn’t give it a try I’d me using a Invincible 3 in its place, quite happily… but now that I know about the Superblast it’s hard to go back… to either the NB3 or I3.

      I’m not a fan. They are VERY different shoes IMO. Adidas created a no holds barred/no limits “what if” shoe in the Prime X while Asics made a super shoe aimed at training and racing. The fact the Superblast doesn’t have any carbon in it is a key design feature.
      However, I will be covering the Prime X 2 Strung on this channel. I have low expectations but curious about the new midsole direction Adidas are attempting in it and the implications for the Adios Pro 5 and beyond…

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem +1

      It’s ALOT of shoe and the stack height could take some time for you legs and gait to adjust too. There is a considerable differences between the Haleigh’s of the NB3 and the SB, give it a few runs.
      I rotate shoes often and run in a lot of difference stack nights, drops and foams… so I’m very used to switching shoes. So it really bothers me.
      I will say after about 40k in the SB it had molded to my foot optimally became extremely natural to my foot, and I generally don’t like max stack shoes.

      I enjoyed the Peg Turbos… but the ZoomX we had 3 years ago is nothing like what we have now. It did bottom out after while or at least loose it’s bounce after a long run or many miles. It was a common complaint of all ZoomX shoes back then.
      If you took the Turbo 2, as it was in 2019, and put the 2023 ZoomX and React foams in it, you’d get a much more lively and durable shoe.
      We will see what we get with the next Turbo (there is one in development).

      It is considerably more stable and structured than an Invincible 1/2 and more than the Invincible 3. It’s a wider midsole and a firmer foam over the Invincible platform.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem +2

      If you are looking for one sure to train info AND race… it’s the Superblast, without question.
      If I had a half tomorrow that I was going to race, but maybe not for a PR, I’d easily go with the Superblast.
      A carbon shoe WILL give you more pop and support towards the end of your race… so if I was going for a PR I’d want carbon under foot.
      I like the AP3, but the upper is a nightmare and it doesn’t do easier training well. So I’d not recommend it as your one shoe.
      The ultimate would be to buy both. The Superblast for training and the AP3 for key long runs and racing.

    I wondered if you feel Superblast is a bit stiff. Would love to hear from your thoughts. Given Novablast 4 has just launched (not yet landed in Hong Kong though), I wondered if you think Novablast 4 can replace Superblast as the choice for long runs. I've put on Ascis 6-7 years ago but felt they were very stiff. Not a good experience...I changed all my trainers to New Balance in my early days of marathon training, have used Nike before and recently enjoy Adidas shoe rotation very much (SL, TS9, Pro 3). With two marathon races (Tokyo and Boston) coming in March and April, I am contemplating the shoe rotation for my coming long runs and daily trainer to be used in next few months. Appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I’ll have a vs video comparing the NB4 and SB later this week that will go deeper into my thoughts… but for marathon training needs (long runs at MP) the Superblast is ideal. Think of the SB as a proper super shoe, use it as such for your long runs and tempo work in your build. The SB is the ideal training shoe for the marathon, while the NB4 is a great high volume trainer (but not really for that faster work needed in a marathon build).
      I never found the SB too stiff. As I said, treat is the same as a carbon plated shoe. It runs the same but is softer and more forgiving for training due to not having a plate.
      What shoe are you going to race in?

    • @01lsw
      @01lsw Před 8 měsíci +1

      Am always delighted to receive your helpful reply😊 I will def go for SB as my long run shoes. As for the racing shoes, I wore Adidas Pro 3 for my Nagoya’s Women Marathon earlier this year and got a big PB and helped me qualify for Boston. I wondered if should go for the same shoes or Pro 4, if available 😅 in Q1. A Hong Kong elite runner suggested me to consider Saucony Endorphin Elite as he thinks this is much better than Adidas Pro 3…I will join a HM race in January to prep my Tokyo Marathon. He suggested me to try Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. Again, I completely have no idea and want to hear from you, too! Don’t want to waste money…

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@01lsw Ah, I’d say stick the the AP3 if it has worked for you. It’s unclear if the AP4 will be an upper change with the same midsole as the AP3 or an entirely new shoe/geometry (if it is I expect it to have the more aggressive geometry from the Evo 1 but with Lightstrike Pro foam) which will be a very different shoe form the AP3. We will know more around February I’d expect as Adidas should do a press release prior to release around that time.
      The Saucony Endorphin Pro is a decent trainer but it’s behind the Adios Pro 3 as far as a racer. The Endorphine Elite is very aggressive, however I think the Asics Metasped Sky+ is a better version of that type of geometry.
      As for your marathon build trainer… I’d definitely recommend the Superblast. It will be ideal for for the long runs you need to get done as well as the paces. It will allow you to reserve training in full carbon plate shoes for the most important workouts in your build. The Superblast is ideal for this type of work.

      Very much appreciated, Chris! Super helpful @@SagasuRunning I actually feel comfortable with AP3, too! Btw, I love TS9 which helps me fly on the track. One more question, I will have my 10K race in two weeks. Do you think I should wear TS9 for the 10K race? I'm also thinking of dusting off my Nike Zoom X Vaporfly Next 2 for this race, I know you love Nike, but somehow it didn't work well for my London Marathon last year. Just don't want to waste money again ;-) so I want to make the most out of this pair of Nike shoes :-)

      @01lsw I’m going to say go with the TS9, especially if it fits your foot well and you are comfortable in them. You also seem to respond well to Lightstrike Pro… so TS9 all the way.
      Yes, I am a big Vaporfly fan, but I’ll admit the TS9 is likely a faster shoe for a 10k given it fits your foot and you have the form to get the most out of it.
      Use your Vaporfly for long interval sessions at marathon pace in your build. If it’s not a good racer for you it will be a good trainer.

      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem +1

      I never ran in the NB2, but I know the NB3 is more stable then the NB2 and the Superblast is more stable than the NB3.
      The Superblast is a very stable shoe (for how much foam is in it) due to primarily being the firmer FFTurbo foam and it’s flared midsole with and wide ground contact.

  • @EricS-uf9mv
    @EricS-uf9mv Před rokem

    Hearing you describe the dual foam ratio of FF Turbo to FF Blast+ has me considering this shoe. A softer landing followed by a much firmer & energetic takeoff due to FF Turbo sounds like the characteristics I want in a shoe. This is a very unpopular opinion, but I don't like my Invincible 1's. To this day, they are probably the most disappointing shoe I own. The Invincibles just sap the energy from my legs. Running 10k in those shoes FEELS like running 10mi. The formulation of ZoomX in the Invincibles just feels SLOW & mushy. I SINK. And instead of bouncing back, I feel like I must "climb out" of the shoe... like I'm fighting my way out of a deep, sticky pit. Without a plate, that ZoomX formulation in the Invincibles feels sloppy at easy paces of 7:45-ish/mi & slower. Ppl say the Invincibles come alive as the paces increase, but IMO the chore becomes worse. Your experience with the Superblast sounds like my perfect shoe. It has many of the energetic characteristics of a less aggressive, plated supershoe but without the downsides of a plate (namely being harsh). I admit the cost does give me pause though. You say the Superblast isn't a daily trainer, but I WOULD be USING it as such. As a result, I can't see myself spending $220 for daily trainer if it's only good for 150-ish miles (like other supershoes). I fully expect all my trainers to go a MINIMUM of 300mi. What has your experience been with outsole durability, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, loss of midsole foam resiliency?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem +1

      The Superblast is not a soft shoe. I agree with you about overly soft and mushy shoes. Feels like running in glue. That’s why I didn’t really like the I1/2 for more than 5-6mi tops. The I3 is far better but not Superblast better.
      I’m putting as many miles as I can into the Superblast to be able to answer your durability question. FFTurbo is new to me as far as putting a lot of miles into it… but I’m running in the Superblast and Metaspeed Sky+ a lot right now…
      I’ll have an update on the Superblast durability in a few weeks. But as of now I have about 130mi into them and have found that the rubber pads on the outsole are now smooth in my high traffic areas (lateral forefoot edge, especially on my right foot) but nearly untouched elsewhere. I’ll keep putting the miles into them and see what happens.
      The Superblast is a performance trainer or a training tool, specially for the marathon… which I think justifies the price as it’s more metaspeed than novablast. So it can TOTALLY be a daily trainer, a very good one at that, but is it worth the price for that general purpose? I’m not sure as I’d favor a Nike Pegasus for that general daily shoe…
      I’ll have a video next week that dives into this all in greater detail…

    • @EricS-uf9mv
      @EricS-uf9mv Před rokem +1

      @@SagasuRunning Thank you for the detailed feedback. Your experience to date is promising though the high rubber abrasion is slightly concerning. This usually translates into less wet grip, though in my experience, overall performance & outsole longevity isn't dramatically impacted unless the rubber totally abrades away. My MAJOR concern is loss of midsole foam energetics. These super foams really do 'pack down' greatly over time and seem less durable than EVA. Although they outperform EVA throughout their useful period so it's a worthwhile trade. We'll ALL be anxiously awaiting your future reports!
      I dunno if you noticed but the Superblast has been receiving renewed interest. Seems a lot of reviewers parroted the handful of initial negative reviews... perhaps due to time constraints??? I dunno, but for whatever reason these shoes are now getting a 2nd look. I guess now that ppl have more time-on-feet in the Superblasts, opinion has wildly shifted to the positive.
      Oh, and a big thumbs up on your channel. Your delivery and in particular your PROFESSONAL analysis of shoes and the running industry in general is far above the general ShoeTuber cut.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před rokem +1

      I’m finding FFTurbo sits somewhere between ZoomX and Lightstrike Pro in regards to durability and life. While not as resilient as either foam it seems to wear closer the LSP, meaning it breaks in and feels better and better as you put miles into it… vs ZoomX which feels the best straight out of the box.
      Wet grip on the Superblast…. Honestly, it’s the same as the Novablast… not great, but slightly better so to a modified rubber pad design that puts a little more rubber on the ground. Having that much smooth foam on the ground is a challenge for wet.
      I ran in heavy rain yesterday, leaves all over the road and some flash flooding happening (it is a Typhoon here in Taiwan). I didn’t even attempt to do my run in the Superblast because I knew it with be lethal. Instead I went with Pegasus 40s and had no problems at all (the full rubber outsole on the Peg, is heavy, but so so worth it for versatility).
      I have noticed the renewed interest. I feel like the shoe was fairly positively reviewed, other than the price, last year. But I think people are now seeing it for what it is. Not a Uber Novablast… but a training tool related to the Metaspeeds. I’ll have a video out next week on that connection and what I think Asics is intending.
      Thank you for the kind words about my content and presentation. I started this channel for a few reasons but one of the main ones was I saw a large gap in the shoetube space and thought I could fill it with my background and perspective. I bought this shoe and after an initial long run, didn't love it. But I disagree that it's hot or heavy - it's one of the lightest weight distance shoes you'll find, and as a result, the upper is pretty minimal which also cuts down on temperature. It might be dull - I didn't have a great experience so far - didn't get that energy return I expected from all that foam.

    What about the grip?? You cant call it a super shoe if it doesn't have a good grip!! And if you have sprinted... you know you need lesser stack, but most importantly, you need a good grip!!
    This is no super shoe, man!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The grip is fine on this for road running, not the best but much better than the Novablast 3 (which it is often compared too).
      I would argue that a modern super shoe needs to be able to pick up speed when racing but is FAR from a 100m race spike or any type of track spike, period. Like ALL other current super shoes, gear towards toward marathons, this shoe will do fine in 400s or 800s, typical “fast” work down in a marathon build… on par with a Adios Pro 3, Sky+, Vaperfly 3, etc…
      But no modern super shoe would be the choice for sprinting on a track. The Vaporfly or Takumi Sen 8/9 would be the best bets but still not want someone would sprint in.
      Also modern super shoes are VERY different than race flats of old. They have little in common with an old Adios or Streak…

      @@SagasuRunning I have some experience with Novablast... a bit annoying on wet roads! But when one wants to sprint hard, they want to really rip into it-- not necessarily float over the roads rather get a tight grip of the road beneath the foot and put the paces behind in a hurry! If you know what I mean!
      Besides, I can understand why there is no shoe that can do it all, and why we got categories... i haven't tried this shoe but nobody is saying this can replace the carbon shoe! So, unless a shoe can do everything, I wouldn't call it a super shoe!
      I would say, even in its own category, if it has got a grip like novablast or only marginally better, then it has a significant flaw!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Před 10 měsíci

      We have a a very different definition of super shoe. If there has ever been a single shoe that can do it all… from easy runs through a racing a marathon, with everything in between training wise, it’s the Superblast.
      As for a super shoe… I’m using the standard of the Vaporfly 3 and a dedicated road racing shoe for half to full marathons… the Superblast very much fits that category. I also think Asics is going to lean more into it over the coming years as a proper racing shoe.
