  • Improvisation is something you should never plan to do. You do it when you run out of resources. Don't get caught underprepared and have to go straight to improvisation. Make sure you have the resources you need, and know how to use them, in a wilderness medical emergency.

    I believe based off this video I need more then basic first aid training. I'll have to find a local class i can take after work. Thank you for the tips

      Check with your local fire house .

      Also look to local hiking clubs. They’ll sometimes host Wilderness First aid classes.

    As a ghetto paramedic in a shithole of a city, this is not only excellent information but highly accurate. I've used those materials and are priceless. Outstanding video.

    Regarding the QuikClot combat gauze, make sure you get the combat z-fold 4yd length, not the civilian rolled 1.3yd length. Just a handgun caliber GSW will create a hole big enough to use most, if not all of the 4 yards. We just finished teaching a casualty management for active shooters class where we tested them on a simulator, and everyone was surprised to see how much of it you need to adequately pack a wound.

    This is great, plain simplified basic needs. I have only used blister care. But on 3 times I had to use on others. Came in hand. Here in Florida with all the boats should have one on each. You are not doing just a great job , but a needed service. Thank You.

    The best eye-opening video on the subject because it is so simple.

    Great segment. It's best to have it and don't need it, than to need it and don't have it.

    Joshua, your store on your website is often sold out of things. When I go ro you Amazon link it would be nice if the whole kit was an option. I'd just order the whole thing.
    Great information. As a guy who served in the Army as well, but way, way down from the pointy part of the spear (CRYPTO Repair) I want to say thanks for sharing your obviously hard won knowledge.

    On multiple videos, you referenced the addition of trauma sheers, mylar blanket, and a second or readily available tourniquet. Why aren't they available on your just under 200 dollar kit? ~Saber 27

    Have you ever considered carrying an assortment of various sized tampax‘s to be used to plug a bullet cavity? They are sterile & the string would make removal easier once the victim arrives in the ER?

    would tampons work to plug bullet holes?

    Do you think it makes any sense to use hand warmers when dealing with hypothermia? In conjunction with the space blanket? Or maybe they raises the temperature too rapidly?

    • @GrayBeardedGreenBeret
      @GrayBeardedGreenBeret  Před rokem +2

      Hand warmers wouldn’t hurt a thing, but I’m not sure they would help all that much either being such a small thing transferring heat to a larger thing. They make a Ready Heat blanket over at North American Rescue that is essentially a blanket-sized warmer like that and it goes inside I thermal blanket for hypothermia

    • @Tactical-medical-training
      @Tactical-medical-training Před rokem

      Handwarmers are better than nothing. Put them on the neck, armpits, and groin. When you are treating hypothermia caused by blood loss, you need active rewarming. Our bodies and enzyme are meant to work at our normal body temp. When it dips below that normal temp, we start to really suffer and can't form clots.

    I have non vented chest seals. Should I change them for vented

    • @Tactical-medical-training
      @Tactical-medical-training Před rokem

      Currently, it is recommended that you use vented chest seals. But you know what works better than vented chest seals, a chest decompression needle. Go get trained on how to use those, and you will significantly increase your effectiveness. Training always outweighs kit.

      as a TCCC/WRFA certified medic for a SAR team, I would recommend it but you can't get one unless you have a prescription. I believe there are companies that will write you a prescription and insurance may cover it.

    Please can you explain why do I need trauma shears and tourniquet for being in the wilderness? Isn't this a bit over the top?

    • @johnnybushman651
      @johnnybushman651 Před rokem +2

      Let’s say you fall and brake your leg and you got a compound fracture and the bone is sticking out of your leg and it ripped the artery in your leg. You won’t have time to take your pants off so you cut up the pants leg , bottom up to the brake, and apply the tourniquet above the wound to stop the bleeding then write the time down when it was applied so the first responders will know how long it’s been on. I’m not a doctor, just saying.
