      Somewhere along the way sapwood got a bad wrap but I don't see why, it really opens up so many designs. Have fun and Happy sawdust making!!

    Those boards are gorgeous! The selection and placement of the walnut board is amazing. I just started working with Padauk and it's becoming my new favorite, especially when it comes to turning bowls.

      I think I spent the better part of an afternoon trying to figure out what to do with that piece of walnut, with a little luck and some help from grain gods it all came together. Thanks for the comments! 🙌

      Thanks Jim! I Spent two solid years just making cutting boards one after the next and I really tried to make each one as unique as possible. I learned a lot (mostly through mistakes) and now I am happy to share what I can with you.

    Thanks for the tips.. You do some excellent work ! You sure live in a beautiful area. I just rode my bicycle across North Carolina, from Banner Elk, to Emerald Isle. So I got to see it close up and meet quite a few people. We stayed in smaller towns, and had some excellent food.

      That Paduak dust is no joke, and once it gets in the endgrain it can get frustrating.

    Good stuff. I like the incorporation of sapwood. I feel like not enough people utilize those nice contrasting boards that have a clear distinction between heartwood and sapwood.

      I agree endgrain has that little something extra, but I figured it might be helpful to show a different approach to making edge grain, other than just a striped looking board.

    I just started watching your videos and I’m addicted! You do such a fabulous job shooting the videos and explaining what you are doing. I find it relaxing and therapeutic. I also enjoy how you weave in nature to your videos. Cutting boards are my next woodworking project I’d like to tackle. I’m fairly new to woodworking and I don’t own a planner so that is at the top of my list of tools I need to acquire. I noticed you don’t use a jointer. I always thought a jointer was a necessary tool when it comes to making a cutting board. Would like your opinion on that. Cheers!

    These are beautiful designs and your workmanship is remarkable. I have only used Padauk for accent stripes in my boards because I have feared that they will turn brown in time but will emulate your use as a primary wood. Also, I really appreciate your lead in shots of the forests, so beautiful.

      Thanks for your comments, and you are correct Paduak will over time turn brown and lose a lot of its color. The good thing is You can always bring the color back with a quick sand and refresh.
