The Bestie Bag from Blackbird Fabrics is one of my all time favorite bag patterns. It’s a classic crescent bag with beginner friendly instructions (and no serger necessary!!).
In this video, I make the Medium size with a self strap.

A tip…avoid lining a bag with dark fabric. A lighter fabric helps you see items inside the bag more easily.
And easier to sew for me, I really struggle with dark fabric 😂
But keep in mind it will be filthy very quickly 🤣

This was recommended to me and honestly KUDOS on the quality of the tutorial. I had no plans to make this but might now just because this is so clear and straightforward!

Just stoppet the video for a second after I watched the topstitching part along the bottom. A great tip to at least make half of the topstitching easier - do it after you stitched the bottom to the first side, easypeasy. And as someone else commented - press as you go along - a key to make your projects look professional.

Can’t recommend this more!! I made the quilted version of this bag so the layers were thicker and topstitching was so difficult… luckily I saw this comment before making it and it really helped. 20:16
Great project, and I’m impressed the position of the zipper foot riding over the zipper when you did the top stitch.

You can pass the zipper pull just by lifting the needle. No need to move the foot.

If you're new to sewing and reading this, I am begging you to PLEASE IRON YOUR SEAMS AS YOU GO. People who have been sewing a long time can probably get away with doing this, but I swear it will make your life easier. Yes, it adds extra time... but do you want your project to look crisp and professional or look home-made? Take the time and do it right.
I’m currently following your tutorial and making the bag! The zipper part is not as perfect as yours… but since I’m a beginner I can live with the imperfections 😅. Thank you for the video! I’ll try to add bows wheb it’s done.

Does the top sticking have a purpose or is it for aesthetic reasons only? I recently bought the pattern and can't wait to get started, great tutorial!

I’m impatient so I’ll use an iron on interfacing and skip the lining.
Will also buy strapping and swerve making it myself.

Those notches are ginormous
You shouldn’t snip the zipper. Using a fabric marker would be the best choice. If you must snip, you should use a lighter to stop the zipper fabric from fraying.
Is anyone selling any of these completed bags? I LOVE this design but would never be able to make it myself 😢

I just used a regular universal needle!

They have similarities, but not exactly the same
how much of each fabric did you start with? like do need a whole yard of the inside and outside fabric?

The zipper length is listed on page 6 of the pdf instructions and the fabric requirements are on page 8. If you're still having trouble, I'd recommend reaching out to Blackbird's team.

I somehow managed to open all the pdfs(all sizes, medium, large, print at home etc) except for the one titled instructions so I was so confused when you mentioned page 8 when none of the ones I opened had page 8. -this led me to open each one again(on my laptop this time). Anyways, I found it- I was being a stupid. Thank you😭😭
