Thanks for the great reaction and analysis. You reacted a lot to Band-Maid, so I think you understand each and every one of them. And I have always felt the same way as you about the timing of removing the vocal effects in Saiki. I also have the same impression of the jazz-like transition after the guitar solo, and I love this part of the song. I hope you will continue to add more Band-Maid reactions. Thank you so much.🤘

I am a fan. I have not been this impressed by a band ever.
We hear what a band creates , and our individual boxes get checked or not. First 60 seconds hearing them, all my boxes were checked. Love this band.

'Secret My Lips' is still my favorite from this group.
Sure, they have songs that are more technical and sophisticated, but this one has all the ingredients I want to hear in a BAND-MAID song.

Love Obi-Wan Kanami's composition of this song - and her superb solo. Gotta recommend (though you're probably already aware) of the version of this song that was released by their alter-ego band, Band-Maiko. Same song but called "Secret Maiko Lips" and with the addition of traditional Japanese instruments and with the ladies dressed in traditional Maiko clothing, make-up and and hairstyles and hairpieces. An April Fool's prank that spawned an EP and a load of great songs as well as this great MV - czcams.com/video/NNHGABwme50/video.html .
Glad you finally got to this one! My favorite from them hands down. Second song I ever heard from them so it holds a special place in my heart lol. To say I had it on repeat is an understatement. That chorus just hits every-time.

Very nice review! Insightful and well reasoned observations as always. Interestingly, I think you may be the first reactor I've seen do the "normal" version of the song before the "April Fool's" version "Secret Maiko Lips" - wonder if that's in the queue and if so how seeing the normal version first will affect the reaction if it is (invariably when a reactor does the April Fool's.version first they get a whole bunch of comments about "should have done the normal version first", so an opportunity is out there to see if it actually does make a difference).
Great reaction and a lot of really good thoughts! This song has really grown on me. Says a lot for BM that an "average" song fpr them still receives a score in the great category. There is a live version of this on their BM Prime site and it slays.
I really like your thoughts on the members. This one drummer reactor also made the comment that Akane had great feel. Agree with your comments about Kanami's solo...she is the master at making you want more. I have never gotten bored during her solos. I will say though that she is shredding throughout the chorus and the last part of the song.

Great reaction and agree with your assessment. This is a good Band-Maid song, I'd put it above middle ranger for me, but still better than a lot of other bands.
Great reaction Dave, Funny that when she started Band Maid, Miku didn't even know how to play the guitar! If you watch her closely on the Thrill video, she's basically a pretty guitar stand. Fast forward to the present and after being tutored by Obi Wan Kanami we see a big difference in her skill and confidence! AND while having the time of their lives on stage. And we all know that fun and happiness are highly contagious!
I wonder if you noticed Kanami stealth shredding during the choruses and the outro 😆 didn't catch it the first time but I can't stop hearing it now!

The reason I chose to join your Patreon, after watching reaction channels for ten plus years, is that you hear the difference between studio audio and live audio. So many reactors utterly fail with this. Even so called 'Musician Reacts' channels.
Secret My Lips is one of my consistently favorite Band Maid songs. Although 8.4 is a good score, I would score it as an 8.9. 😀

Before 2021, this and "YOLO" were the two songs that best demonstrated Kanami's madness as a songwriter.
Then in 2021, she hits us with "I Still Seek Revenge," "H-G-K," "Giovanni," and "Black Hole."
Giovanni - what goes on in Kanami's mind that came up with this, I'm still stunned when I listen to it. When HGK starts I just put my mind on pause until it's over to prevent melting.
YES! "I Still Seek Revenge" is a drumming eargasm.

This video was recorded at their January 9th 2017 performance at Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo. I went back and check the video of the performance, but I've only got 30 minutes of the full almost 2 hour concert. I'm not certain but there might have been some additions during the live concert and some issues with the sound. I know on my video I've heard all three guitarists and both Saiki and Miku's vocals dropping out for a second or two. Plus their label took a 2 hour concert and recorded it, but only published 30 minutes of it.
Yeah the shortened version is on Band-Maid Prime, I always wondered why it was so short. I thought the concert sounded great. It was a concert promoting the release of 'Just Bring It' if I am not mistaken.

This is a good song but like some have noted the Band Maiko version band maid does Secret Maiko Lips I like better. Kanami samples in traditional instruments and Miku rewrote the lyrics into the Kyoto dialect of japanese. You cant tell the difference between Miku and Kanami playing guitar because for studio recordings Kanami usually plays her own and Miku's parts for most studio recorded songs. The ladies have said this in past interviews. Miku usually only plays live, though for Cluppo songs who knows.
Love this song. The studio version is just fine, but the ultimate version of this is on the Shinkiba Studio Coast DVD filmed in Nov, 2017. That live version might be just a tad faster, but the main thing is guitars really dig into the riff and it becomes even more propulsive. The live version really soars. If anything the execution on that live version is even more crisp than the studio version as well. I also liked the stage set-up for the Studio Coast performance with the display panels behind the band. It made for a stunning performance.
I sent David a link to that months ago. Hopefully he'll get to it eventually.

Yeah this is directly from the Studio version release on their album, which surprises me since their actual live recordings tend to be perfectly fine. My guess the Live video audio didn't quite meet their quality they wanted.
I love this song so much. It shows off the essence of B-M in their fullest. One of my favs along with Puzzle. If someone wants to know about Band-Maid, I play them this song. I remember hearing that Saiki said Real Existence represented B-M best. I think she's wrong and Secret My Lips is a better showcase. Especially since they wrote it themselves.
I think this reaction is incomplete without the Secret MAIKO lips reaction. Anyways I loved your reaction for the Jazzy bridge

Probably it's a grower, Saiki's vocal here doesn't sound the best I definitely agree. Indeed Saiki herself admitted that she 'cheated' to make it sound good because of her polyp giving her problems.
Her vocal really started to shoot through round about 2019/2020 when she recovered from the surgery.
Actually the jazzy bit, the vocal effect and Akane's drumming are the aspects that made this song one of my favourites. I also absolutely love when they do something weird or awkward. 😂

All these asian metal songs sound the same. If someone said this is baby metal i'd believe it.
of course mesic is subjective but Band-Maid is a ROCK band not metal not sure how you equate them with BabyMetal which is predominantly a metal group. that is like saying The Rolling Stones sound the same as Black Sabbath
1. This isn't metal 2. If you think BAND-MAID sounds anything like that other band you mentioned you've never listened to either of them.
Bands in the heavy metal genre are all similar and no different from the others. I think Babymetal's sound is very unique.
I also add that BAND-MAID is hard rock, not metal.
Japan has & still is creating the most innovative & diverse Rock/Metal scene music in decades. It's the western bands that have become generic with an endless stream of cookie cutter "Clean & scream" bands.Yawn🥱 I could be wrong but remember....i'm never wrong :)
