Welcome to the second season of the Coffee Break Sessions! This is the second episode of the new season. Today, I'm playing some reissues of experimental, soundtrack and library music from Italy. Library music is a sort of generic soundtrack music with jazz, psych, funk, and ambient elements. It's not intended for mass commercial release and it has no causal audience because of its format and function. It's for films and TV so that the TV network can contact a music library label for a theme or tonal ambiance. Despite all that, library music takes weird and fantastic detours. There are garish drum machines, seedy guitars, synthesizers gone haywire, and fractious brass sections. Perhaps the lack of an audience to please gave composers the latitude to experiment. Nowadays there are some reissues from labels like Sonor Music Editions and Four Flies Records, many gems remain inaccessible to everyone except Milanese crate diggers and members of the most privileged file-sharing circles.
    Chapters:
    00:00 Intro
00:20 Jay Richford & Gary Stevan ‎- Running Fast
4:37 Alberto Baldan Bembo - Tema di Barbara
7:10 Alessandro Alessandroni - La Professoressa Di Scienze Naturali - Seq. 1
10:54 Nico Fidenco ‎- Sweet Disco Funky
14:30 Claudio Tallino - Smoke Gets In Your Head
17:34 Claudio Tallino ‎- Spell (Dolce Mattatoio)
    20:00 Bruno Lauzi - Babadaba
    22:20 Gino Pavan ‎- Magico
25:35 Cicci Santucci, Enzo Scoppa ‎- Eleven
    27:48 Calibro 35 ‎- Eurocrime!
30:38 Piero Umiliani ‎- Hard Times
    34:55 Piero Umiliani ‎- Un'Isola Felice

It's fun how some of these tracks belonged to Italian erotic-comedy movies of the 70s's and are now seen as ambient/library music.

@@jonathancorbett7882 Creation is amazing, though Curation shouldn't be ignored. The artist are amazing and deserve props, though I think what this channel excels in is diversifying peoples taste. The purpose of this channel is to celebrate these artist and share not just this music, but music from throughout the world and time.
If you can honestly say there's no difference between the selection of mixes provided here, and those on your local radio you either live in a city with a great station, or are ignoring the effort taken to select, source and present the work in such a beautiful way. Doing that while providing the sources as well for people who want to go deeper is awesome though, which is why I love this channel.

    • @qualljq
      @qualljq Před 3 lety +11

Additionally, this channel is free to access. The Patreon support is a tip jar for the aforementioned curation efforts as well as collection for future projects.
Look at this like a public access radio show that's run off of donations in lieu of ads interrupting the enjoyment every few songs. Each set is curated and played free of interruption as a whole piece, akin to making an art collage.
Challenge yourself to create a set that flows as effortlessly as this one (or any of the others hosted here) before making this type of comment in the future, you'll see the effort thats put into every video.

@@jonathancorbett7882 As someone whose been DJing since highschool and digs in every city I visit, I've never heard of or seen most of these albums, though I get your point.
Everyone has their own experiences and I think that again diversifying peoples taste is really great, even if it's a shallow exposure, it's exposure nonetheless. This channel doesn't run copious ads, it's not behind a pay wall, and it credits the original artist while being played on real vinyl, which supports the original artist.
I'll make an effort o checkout mixcloud though, sounds like a cool place to find more new stuff to look for next time I hit Amoeba when I'm in LA

@@jonathancorbett7882 I’m seriously struggling to understand what made you hate what I do here. I literally make 0 money out of CZcams views. I spend almost all the money that Patreon supporters donate into buying new records.
I’m not saying that I am the best digger (seems like you do think that about yourself though) I don’t make these sets exclusive to people who support me. I just share the music I love and discover.

I've got the 3-disc series Beat at Cinecitta and it totally goes along these lines with some really wild compositions, including funny sounds, wah-wah, etc. "Library" music as backdrop to goofy Italian sexploitation flicks from the 60's-70's. This set here by MAJ fits right in. So much groovy fun! Thanks for sharing this. You have such great taste in music. Mad respect.
