Pomaria, SC Thunderbolt 1000T 4/5 & Vortex R3: Alert, Attack, Fastwail, and Hi Lo 6/24/2023

- This was a fascinating test. This Thunderbolt 1000T came from West Shore Services (was pulled out literally like Wednesday of this past week), and I decided it was functional enough to run for a test. This was the LOUDEST FUCKING SIREN I have ever heard on the ground next to a Jailbar unit, which says a LOT about the siren and the 4M it's attached to. The Vortex was being run automatically by a Whelen encoder. The siren was on county dispatch frequency, but due to an unknown issue, the DTMF failed to trip the siren, so you see yours truly run over to manually activate it. Then, I keyed up the wrong radio code for the attack signal, hitting fast-wail instead, which I went over to fix. After Alert & Attack, Chris unexpectedly runs over and starts up fast wailing manually, before the breaker was cut so we could put it on level 7 and 8 RPM. One of the phases that run to the blower became unhooked unknowingly, which is why it first started up without it, to my dismay... After all that, we finally got it going and decided to cut it off early so we could give both the siren a rest, and everyone else in the area. Overall was a pretty neat experience.

Fun fact: Ive known about this Bolt since ‘09 or so, I actually almost bought it when I was at West Shore. Then I found Bryans old M and I was like yup i’ll take it!

This thing sounds awesome! The attack signal is probably the best i have heard on any Thunderbolt
It peaks perfectly! Also, when this is restored, it should be repainted brown since that looks pretty neat on Thunderbolts.
There is something about 4/5 'bolts that make them sound special

That sounds incredible, I'm impressed it runs as good as it does after sitting in the dirt and brush for over 30 years! Goes to show that these older Thunderbolts were built like tanks. Congrats on the acquisition, can't wait to hear how it sounds after some TLC!
We ran it again last Saturday. It sounds amazing.
@SouthCarolinaSirens Christopher and Luke say this is extremely loud, how loud is it compared to your 'bolt or the other stuff from SirenCon just out of curiosity?
To me it seems like its just as loud as the 1003. Didnt notice much of a difference.

Man this ain't fair! I was hoping to save this Thunderbolt but I guess I was too late.
Just be glad it was saved at all and not scrapped or left to rot. I'm sure he'll take good care of it.
@@Thunderbolt1000Tfan It's definitely better than being scraped and I'm glad it went to a good home. He also got it running faster than I ever would have.
