    What if the door is locked and will not open? It's the back driver side door

    With the help of your video I completed this job on my wife's 2004 Ram (92,000 miles) in about 50 minutes. Everything went smoothly except one of the control rod retainers was very difficult to unsnap. Anyway, your process is spot on... THANKS!

    Your video worked great for me. I did initially had a problem after tightening down the mechanism screws too tight which would not allow the key or push/pull lock to freely move. I backed off the screws and all worked well.

    I did the job in just under 45 minutes. The only thing I did before i realized was cross the inner white and green rods before realizing it. The inner green clip was a bit tricky trying to hold the latch down while trying to push the rod through and clip it. Other than that, your video was a great help. Doors work! Thx again!

      That's awesome. I just filmed how I replaced the water pump I will be putting that video up soon. You probably have may years before you have to worry about replacing your water pump though.

    Thanks for the vid. One tip I learned that may help others: My new actuator came with the colored retainer clips in a separate bag. It's a lot easier to attach them to the actuator BEFORE installing it back in the door...what a pain it was to try and snap them into place in such a confined area.

    I'm going to replace mine today. Thanks for this video, i learned alot from this vid. I went to a junk yard and found a brand new actuator in a dodge ram and this video helped me learn how to take it out also. Thanks

    Great video! I'm about to do this repair. I have a 2004 with 60,000km/40,000 miles on it. I just finished replacing a jammed ignition tumbler and now this. I think I caused this myself slamming the door pretty hard. Don't ask! Your instruction seemed a bit more easier to follow than a few others I've seen. My lock won't even budge with the key on the outside of the truck. It's pretty jammed up. I have to use my key fob to open the other doors and slide over to open the door from the inside. PITA! I have a brand new one ready to install.
    Thanks for posting.

      That's odd that it went out at 40K Mine lasted to around 200k. I had the fuel pump go at 100k, the ac condenser fan go around 175k, water pump at 220k, the power window on drivers side is just starting to act up on me. I'm glad the video helped

      The Handyman well, I think maybe it’s possible a rod popped out or maybe the harness fell out. I’ve had the door panel off but I couldn’t see much. When I engage the key fob nothing works on the drivers side. You’d think I could at least unlock the door from the outside using the key? It don’t even turn.

    Got a question, when unlocking my doors with button/switch I have to press lock then unlock. Anyone else's truck doing this if so do you know why, is it normal ? 🤔 or is something broke with my truck. 2003 ram 1500 crew cab 4x4. So if I walk up to the door ( it's unlocked) I hit lock unlock rapidly it's fine. If I walk up and hit lock and wait 2 or 3 seconds then hit unlock nothing will happen I have to press lock then unlock. Doesn't matter if door is open or closed. Passenger side is same way. Is this normal.

    My 06 Ram has been making a loud embarrassing noise in the door when locking and unlocking. So putting in
    a new actuator will solve that problem ?

      Did you ever end up replacing it? Just got an 06 ram 1500 and it makes a loud ass noise when the I hit the "door lock" switch. The driver side doesn't lock at all by using the switch but the key still locks/unlocks it.

      Thanks. I have almost 200,000 miles on this truck. Little things like this door lock are starting to fail on it. I hope to get one more year out of it before getting a newer truck.

    • @markm0000
      @markm0000 Před 6 lety

      You should keep that truck for as long as possible. Newer trucks aren't made any better and when the warranty goes it's going to be the same round of repairs that you're doing on this one. I strongly suggest a oil based undercoating so you don't get any rust on the truck. Keep up on the maintenance and put in quality stuff (oil, filters, fuel, etc.) You should get 500k miles out of that truck just by how it looks at 200k.
