waking up early is easy, going to bed early is the hard part
It's basically a matter of priorities. IF your evenings are actually exiting (socially e.g.), personally I wouldn't recommend to skip them. Yet, if we just hang around (and most of us do), then it boils down to rhythm or codependency, when you're up early, you won't have a problem with going to bed "early".
I disagree. Waking up early is hard af, meanwhile going to bed is easier, if you are disciplined enough
@@gxdxh6252 I can go to bed early. But I will be laying there for hours before I finally fall asleep.
@@Rionaran ok good point but i believe waking up early is just as hard because you're body is so tired and badly wants to sleep a few more hours, even though you have to get up for work/school. It feels like you're body has not been fully charged and because of that you are not ready to get up.
I consider both waking up and going to sleep early a very hard thing to do.
True is when some 1 have adhd
Watching this at 4:38 a.m. and I need to wake up at 5:00. Bout to try these tips.
How it went?
10 minute sleep !?
Power nap huh
Not a good idea...
I swear when I read this comment it was also 4.38 a.m.
Is hitting snooze until it brings me shame a viable strategy too?
No
As long as you set the first alarm for 3am :P
NO I used to do that. I like to have an Alexa and a reminder that I take too long to get ready and I need food or something that brings logic to my sleepy brain. When I am tired NOTHING else matters ex my life.. maybe
Edit: when you hit snooze too much too early you canât get restful sleep in between and you can easily think you have another snooze when you donât or you hit stop thinking youâll get up and you donât. Itâs best to just say you have to sit on the toilet and hope the lights wake you up
I think I'm one of the lucky ones who rarely hit the snooze button.
All that time you spent pressing snooze could have been spent sleeping. you're better off adding that time to your alarm and skipping snooze.
Don't let go of your dreams.
Press snooze.
Hahahaha!

Without watching (I promise), I suggest:
- Having a valid reason to wake up
- Going to bed and falling asleep early and without screen light
- Leave an alarm far from handsâ reach
- Having a plan for the morning
- Eating well is a must!
- Being consistent. It takes about a week or two to get used to it.
Thatâs what worked for me and Iâve been lifting weights at 6am for quite some time now. I prefer working out in the morning because the gyms are way too crowded in the evening. Good luck!
My reason for waking up is to drink coffee.
I agree with almost all of that. I've recently been getting into a morning routine and these things, except "Eating well" have been a part of its success. I personally don't have breakfast, haven't since college, and I've not been the worse for wear for it. I know a lot of people who practice intermittent fasting w/ great success. Good point for some though, and like I said, solid list!
I don't have any reason to wake up
@@dragondream659 Create one.
honestly, the main points are your first and last point, have a reason, and consistency.
I joined a 20 week martial arts program that had me getting up at 5am to get to the place by 6am, also if we were late or absent for too many days we wouldnt be allowed to compete, so that gave us a reason to wake up.
also after about 2 weeks of making sure i only had 1 alarm, i found that when i woke to my alarm, it would be very quick for me to wake up without any groggy feelings.
Once i finished the program and didnt have a reason to wake up anymore, i now feel the groggy effects of under or oversleeping

As soon as I started going to a local coffee shop to read before work, Iâve been able to get up an hour and a half earlier than I used to. The tip about having something exciting to look forward to when you wake up WORKS.
My wake up tip: 2 fluffy alarm clocks with claws and very active meows
Same here! đ
Cats tend to sleep at like 10pm, then wake up at 03 am and stay awake and hunt until 10am. Then sleep until 3 pm. Means maybe a cat wakes one up in the morning (at 5am because she wants food), but cats sleep more during the day, time in which we work.^^
đ
I make my mornings a mini-weekend: I turn on some good jazz, get up and make breakfast with tea with the windows open, and do some pleasure reading before work. As for "movement", I found that tidying up my apartment while breakfast cooks is the best because I'm too groggy to do anything mentally taxing anyways, and it's really nice to come back to a clean home in the afternoon after work.
love these ideas--trying this!
Iâm a night owl lol; I wake up pretty late, but become more productive as it gets later into the day
I'm the same. Plus I have Fibro and other pain so morning is not good for me. However if I have to get up then I can do it. So maybe I'll try this for waking up at 930am instead of 1030am. Works give her an extra hour a day.

That's amazing, I cannot for the love of God be productive when I wake up super late!
This is also my inbuilt program but society is on the exact opposite of the spectrum.
Same im too tired at morning to do stuff but Iâm productive in the afternoon still have to wake up early for classes :(
Hitting the snooze button over and over again really leaves you feeling less rested than just getting up
Not everyone. Since i allowed my self to snooze i did get more energetic
It works for me since half the time I'm only sleeping 4 hours night to begin with due to work and insomnia.
This is very true for me.

One simple reason you should prefer a morning routine over an evening routine is the âpowerâ you have at each of those times. The morning time is your time, there are typically very few things that can surprise or distract you. In the evening, your mood and energy level will completely depend on how your day went. This is particularly true for a 9-5 job, since a bad or busy day at the office can easily affect your evening plans. I think it makes sense to do the most important stuff in the morning, and get it out of the way. Now you can breathe easy and be confident that the most important stuff is out of the way regardless of how your day goes.
this video is so visually captivating, and the advice is given in such an encouraging and anecdotal way!! this is definitely one of my favorite videos that youâve ever done.
Love that "add something exciting into your morning routine" advice... hope, that will make it work for me âș
Man youâre telepathic. Every time I need help with something, you have a video on it that week! What a star âïž
The point of "Add sth you that you enjoy and you're excited about" perfectly reflects the Atomic habit's fantastic book tip of "make it attractive". Thank you bro, you always give practical tips, not just fantasizing and theorizing about science, you actually try things on yourself, giving us more credential in what say. Again, thank you very much.
I wish I could combine my 2 alarm apps. One will wake me up in light stages of sleep (Sleep Cycle) so I'll be well rested, and the other will make sure I get out of bed by making me take a picture of something in my house(Alarmy). It's so annoying that Sleep Cycle doesn't have the picture thing for turning off alarms. It would be the perfect alarm for me otherwise
On the bright side, having to switch between two apps just means you have to spend a bit more time dealing with your alarms!
Sleep for Android does both of these if you happen to own an android device.
Tide app!!
I love Alarmy too!
Iâm trying Alarmy thanks for sharing :)
As always, your timing is always impeccable. I need this video right now.
this is my first video of yours, and i really appreciate how youâre so much less judgemental than other âproductivityâ youtubers: you offer advice and let us think about whether it resonates instead of giving commands and shaming us if we canât follow them.
Exactly, I really like the way he told us useful life hacks.
This made so much sense to me.
Recently I set up Phillips hue lights on my room and configured them to light up gradually over half an hour, that helped to have a better wake up.
Also I stopped trying to find something to do before going to work and started to go there some time before and use the waiting time there to check emails, review what I studied the day before etc
âTake excellent care of the front end of your day, and the rest of your day will pretty much take care of itself." â Robin Sharma,
I have been trying to wake up early for two weeks and I fail everyday. this video happened at the right time! thank you so much!
I love that you mentioned the morning thing. I just did a podcast episode on this and talked about how to say no to the 5am morning routine if you donât feel productive at that time. And you hit it right on the nail.
I like how you touched on "useful movement"! I totally agree that when I ride my bike to work in the morning, it doesn't even feel like a "workout" in the traditional sense. It feels like am adventure đ
I like watching these types of videos (how to do this to improve yourself) late at night. no idea why I only do it at night and not when it's more convenient.
Probably because we have the feeling of missing a video we like the hole day. At night, most of this is over and you arenât that interested in action and loud noises anymore.
@@f.-.69true...
Adding something Fun/Exciting to your mornings is such a great advice!! Why didnât I think of that before?! đ We all have things to do in the mornings that arenât necessarily exciting so the resistance is hard to fight. I love your combination of sunlight/exercise/fun with your bike ride to work.
I feel like having appropriate and varying alarm music is KEY as well
I love the start of the video where he said that being a nightowl can be just as productive as being an early bird
I like how you explained that it is personal thing and you don't have to be a morning person to be productive. Loved itâ€ïž
Same!
Very Well said Thomas, sometimes my routine gets so complicated and long 1-2 hours that it can feel like a chore on some days. Thanks for the reminder to keep it simple!
Hey Thomas! Iâve been following you for the last 5 years since you started. The audio with the videos filmed at your desk are very clear. Would you be able to do a video on what audio you use? Or I would be so happy to hear from either you or someone on your team. Thank you for the incredible work you do to share your knowledge. Cheers! đ
I feel like if you just get enough sleep, that solves this problem
Wow I can't believe Kevin also watches Thomas's videos!
Enough sleep varies for many like for example there are days I can sleep for 4 hrs and wake up not feeling grudgingly while for some other days it is 6 hrs.
Not really. Many mornings I've had more than 8 hours but still feel really sleepy when I'm first out of bed. The sleep stage you're in is very important too
@@RamseyMikati you can experiment on how much time it takes you to fall asleep and add 7.5 hours to that. Personally, I need 15-20 minutes so I set my alarm 7h and 50 minutes after I go to bed. That way I wake up close to the end of my 5th sleep cycle.
No, if you define "enough sleep" it might me 8 hours, but I can sleep 10 hours easily, so if I sleep 8 hours a day I struggle to wake up anyway
Ships don't sink because water is around them, but because water gets inside them. Don't let what's happening around you influence or weigh you down.
Usually, though, ships have holes, and you can't exactly tell a ship to stop taking in water when it has one. So you can't tell people not to let their outside world affect them. They could be hungry, tired, frazzled, or even disenchanted at life. These are their "holes".
Nice metaphor!
@@juliahart8593 Yes, you can tell people, because unlike ships people are able to become aware of their holes and take actions. They can eat if they're hungry, rest if they are tired, re-centre and find ways to fall in love with life again.
I thought you were telling us to stop drinking water :P

Hey man, long time subscriber and I gotta say I love how you're keeping everything up. You come across as both relatable and scientific, and I love you humor. Will keep watching your stuff as long as you make it!
My #1 tip is leaving your phone away from your bed. You have to get up to stop the alarm (and you won't believe how fast you can get out of bed if it means stopping this obnoxious noise), and as a bonus you don't spend as much time watching videos before falling asleep.
Great video, really helped me, and accurately described my situation! Thank you!!
I love the way you jump right into your main points! Thanks.
Great video Thomas like always đ
One thing that holds me back from waking up early (5 or 5:30 AM) is thinking that I'll get super tired by 1 or 2 PM. I tried that for a couple of days; however, I ended up taking a long nap around 6 PM.
You and me are the same!
Now that Matt has moved, someone has to carry his biceps legacy, and thou are the chosen Thomas.
Been dealing with failed attempts to wake up early every single day, I needed this lots. Thank you Thomas
Hey Thomas, I wanted to thank you for all the good advices you gave in your videos. They are very precious for me and I apply them in my everyday journey. I changed a lot of things thanks to you and I wanted to thank you! What youâre doing is great, donât stop :D !
Btw, my reason to be physicly activ in the morning is to think about making a really good breakfast and a morning walk into the woods !
Thomas franks is a great way to start the morning!
I used to have a morning routine where I would get up at 5am then get to the gym and get my morning workout in before I used to start work at 7am. Sadly the pandemic put a stop to this including losing my job. I am now working on a new morning routine to fit in around my new job and the other changes that are happening in my life so this video has definitely appeared at the right time for me
Useful movement is the a really powerful addition to my day. Found this out on my study abroad where I walked to school and back every morning and afternoon for 30 mins each. It transformed my mood and energy throughout the day, made me sleep way earlier as I was tired and helped me stay active consistently.
Love this bro, keep at it, you have tons of potential!
Just finished reading "Own the day own your life" and the first chapter suggests the exact same things - hydrate, expose to light and movement

I have such a hard time getting out of bed. Been watching so many videos and this one is the only one that I feel have actual advice, proper steps one could take to get up early (or on time lol). I'm going to try these thanks!
I found your information both helpful and informative. I'm up very early , most mornings before 5am. I work from home. I am an upholstered. Because I work from home I find home and work compete for my time, energy and focus. So my morning routine helps me get more done in the upholstery room.
What helps get me out of bed is knowing that the more time I have to work before 9am is more time without interruptions. No one is going to call or stop by. Any errands I need to make have to wait until the stores open up. So I put on the Bluetooth headphones and listen to something upbeat or motivational ( my fun thing in the morning routine) and get to work. Oh and quick note the headphones idea was one I got from you- THANK YOU for that it has been a game changer as well.
Keep the great videos coming and thank you again
Watching this at 01:00 am is really enjoyable
1:50 am for me
dance music as soon as i wake up is my way. it gives me movement and joy
This is what iâll start doing. I think this is the key for me.
Fantastic advice! I take street photos and find the early morning to be the most calming time of day, you get to watch the world wake up around you. Requires movement and I get to enjoy the sunlight and have my morning iced coffee as I get ready to head out. I will say Iâm the most productive from around 10am to 3pm, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I have to make calls and work on projects when clients are available. Great video as always!
There's something special about being in a city and getting to watch it wake up. I live a bit too far away from downtown to get to see that, but I remember traveling through Japan a few years ago and really enjoying going for 5am walks through Kyoto (time zones made waking up at that time easy).
FINALLY! Somebody who thinks like me! Thank you, Thomas! I actually used to be a lot more productive in high school because I used to think exactly the same, even before I came across your channel. However, due to people forcing their views on me and the change of schedule by going to college, I have found that I have lost all my good habits and am struggling to get back to them, it's so pathetic that I am using my past self as a role model because my current self can't get much done anymore. I am slowly getting back, but it is a struggle.
getting up early for me depends on how i slept the night before and that depends on whether i walked for at least 15 minutes or not, if not it would take me hours to sleep (i always have sleeping problems) but i hope iâll find a way to be motivated to wake up early. Thank u for the video!đșâ€ïž
Love these points! What immediately helps me wake up fast are 2 out of 3 of yours and a third thatâs different: water, light and a super HOT shower. I canât get any early morning movement done unless Iâve had these 3 first! đȘ

The sunlight one helps me a lot, I always sleep with my curtains open and so I naturally wake up with the sunrise which in the summer is often 5:00-5:30. In winter I wake up much later
For me personally i want to make sure I'm able to do as much as possible in a day's span
@Jibinraj Elon Musk also said, "I work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year. And people still call me lucky."

Fantastic insight as always. The exercise one is v true. So many people don't like gyms, so it's important to utilize exercise while commuting or simply pick up a hobby that involves movement!
In Islam we call that early productive hours "The blessed Hours".
Thanks Mr. Thomas.
Salam, another positive thing about Islam; Waking up for Fajr really helps with adding meaningful movement into the early hours. All of my friends have asked me why I've become such a morning person.
Because I wake up for prayer, and instead of going back to sleep, I invest that gained time into bettering myself while the house is still quiet.
