    Why compete with the Push when most people bought these units for standalone capability? It makes absolutely no sense to make the Ableton mixer look better than the MPC software mixer inside the unit.

    The one thing I am confused about is what is the direction of the MPC. I for one thought the MPC Live would give me a totally different approach to creating music, from apps on a computer. I currently do not own Fl Studio, Ableton etc because I spent a ton of money to get that organic classic way of creating with the purchase of my stand alone MPC Live. So when I see updates that’s not really advancing the MPC in a MPC work flow it upsets me. I thought this was an MPC and not another PC computer. This is the problem with dealing with company’s that get big and start doing deals with other companies they forget what made them special and forget about the people on their forums. Sad and sucks and I am not happy. Can we please get more stand alone features that are new, fun, creative, mind blowing, outside of the box, organic MPC style of creating music. Not cross promoting old third party company’s, us MPC users are trying to get away from. For god sakes listen to the people who spent the $1200.00 plus bucks on your company.

      I feel you bro....but to make a standalone machine with enough power akai would essentially be selling you a pc as well, that's what they're not trying to do besides, the cost would be ridiculous It seems that akai expects serious producers to have access to a PC for power.....with the dollar losing value standalone is becoming ancient from a business standpoint

    • @oO5Dynasty
      @oO5Dynasty Před 4 lety +4

      Zo P I just charge my MPC as I use it, so the power is not the issue. I just plug it into the wall. But as for as the software, if they added this ableton software they can add something that is better for the MPC Live and X workflow. Forcing us back on to the computer with this type of addition is not what we saw coming to be honest. I have an ultra powerful Gaming Pc, I can use if I did want to create music on the computer. But like many other people in this community we wanted to move away from this type of work flow. Reason we took our hard earned money to get the MPC Live and X. I just expected more from this company when I honestly shouldn’t of had.

      @sneakydisco ah, ok... no, i dont have that issues (i use it with DSI pro08, octatrack and analod rytm)... however i noticed, for me it works better, when MPC is master clock... normally i have this issues with midi in some way with all machines i own :-)... it could be this: your synth sends a programm change or cc, when you transpose. the CC or PRG change goes into MPC in and via out/through into the TR-8... this PRG change may cause an issue with the timing... try to disable any cc/prg change in the TR-8 and just enable clock... this may solve the problem :-)

      @superchickensuperchicken7939 Před 4 lety +3

      I agree, multi-timbral and general midi, because the protocol for transferring midi songs to other users in the midi game was general midi that way users would get a general idea of the song they received from another producer then you can assign your favorite sound to the whatever midi track.. when ever I try to use the mpc as a master to trigger general midi on my modules or keyboards the sounds on the tracks are all scrambled up because there is no general midi and general midi would not work without multi-timbral capability...

    Come on guys, why put this nonsense in an MPC? For the Force, yes, I could see it being useful there with it having a similar workflow. But for the MPC X and Live, there’s a lot more you could have added to make these machines better.
    Updates are always appreciated 🙏, but when it’s a feature like this that doesn’t make any sense to the core users of these devices, it’s kind of an insult. And seriously, adding a feature that encourages people to use another system for their music instead their MPC would be like CZcams adding a Vimeo uploader and encouraging people to upload and watch their videos there.
    Your goal should be adding features that will inspire people to make more music, and better music on their MPC. Not adding adding touch screen controls for using an already well supported DAW on a computer.
    I just hope this Ableton feature can be totally disabled so it’s not wasting system resources. I’ll be sticking with 2.6 myself.

    Akai should be focusing their resources on their own software. I certainly didn't purchase my MPC Live to use it as an Ableton controller, nor do I recall it coming with an Ableton license for that matter. The market for Ableton controllers is already oversaturated, and that's before you consider PUSH. Ahem! And as if you actually bumped a proprietary MPC functionality off the pad shortcuts (pad color) in favour of Ableton Control. Why would we need a shortcut for that? Think, Akai... Think! Cheers!

    • @Claidheambmor
      @Claidheambmor Před 2 lety

      No offence, but who are you to say what a company like Akai 'should' be doing? Have you considered they are capable of working on multiple things concurrently? It might be worth considering that while you don't see the value in Ableton Live integration, there are countless musicians who will benefit from this. Stop being selfish and enjoy what is perhaps the best standalone portable music making machine of all time. Less hate more music.

    • @SandcastleTheory
      @SandcastleTheory Před 2 lety +1

      @@Claidheambmor No offence taken. But who I am, since you asked, is the guy who actually got that interface oversight fixed, along with a number of other critical bugs. I test gear and do product consulting for several commercial and boutique gear manufacturers, Akai included, who welcome and appreciate my objectivity and (sometimes brutal) honesty. In this forum, however, I get to be a customer, and speak my mind in whatever tone I feel is justified, to effect change in the products I rely upon to do my job, and hold companies accountable to the promises they make. We vote with our words and our wallets. To that end, my criticism (and the verbiage I so carefully chose) hardly constitute "hate". That's a serious word you've presumed to use there; one that ought to be reserved for real malevolence. Cheers!

    Just purchased Live and this update is a bit of a letdown. It's as if Akai is saying they don't believe in the 2.0 software that was supposedly designed to complement the stand alone aspect of it's own product. Got no problem with Ableton - but can someone say "Push 2"? Akai and Ableton are apparently trying to create a larger market for each of their brands but in the process run the real risk of alienating their core customers. And If the comments on this page are any indication, they're succeeding - at poor marketing and Akai will take a larger hit than Ableton as most of their core customers already have the Push 2 and new Ableton customers definitely aren't looking to use Akai's "standalone" controllers to run it's software. Go figure 🙄.

  • @Mirchitunes
    @Mirchitunes Před 4 lety +2

    First of all, thanks for a very detailed and through walkthrough of Ableton Live Control integration. Ableton is a popular DAW that is preferred by many producers/remixers. However, why would you drain so much of your development efforts into another DAW when you could have spent that time improving MPC Live and MPC software? Although it is pretty neat MPC Live can be used to control Ableton with this feature update, Neither MPC Live nor MPC X is the best control surface for complex beast like Ableton. There are better control surfaces for Ableton like the Ableton Push 2 or the Akai Force. A DAW like Ableton is best controlled with a surface that has more buttons and knobs. Using the touch screen is slow and counter intuitive.

  • @PanoramicaNZ
    @PanoramicaNZ Před 4 lety

    As a long time Ableton user with tons of legacy projects, this feature is worthwhile for me. Ableton are a software company, so they'll never build my dream touchscreen controller, instead providing an API to their software for hardware developers to implement (which presumably is quite cheap and easy to do since most controller producers have implemented it). After trying a Macbook Air, Push, Maschine, iPad running Touchable, Gadget, BM3, etc etc I know that my dream solution has to be a reliable standalone hybrid. Something I can use LIVE, i.e. in my version of real life, away from a power supply, mouse, keyboard, audio interface and a 24" monitor. Laptops and iPads are power hungry multitaskers and a pain to use in the field. iOS file management is unstable. Portable samplers have cheap fiddly interfaces and require a laptop to download and edit. For me it would be so much better to have a hybrid device in my bag for recording on location, editing takes, jamming my ideas, but then have the flexibility to upload to a more mature DAW and jam using the same device. Or to perform LIVE, using said DAW to give me extra flexibility e.g bypass limitations of the internal software, i.e. max track count and MB of samples in RAM. But that's just me. Everyone has different needs and dreams, there is not a one size fits all when it comes to music technology.
    The other thing to remember is that companies like Akai don't have infinite budgets. So they have to make their products appeal to as wide a range of musicians as possible, hence all the competing product iterations and variations. Good software engineers are expensive and the sale of one MPC only pays for a limited amount of software development, feature updates, patches etc. Then you've got legacy development butting heads with evolution, where much esteemed feature X may have been the baby of some developer long since departed, or tied to a particular OS/version (JJOS etc). Just because a feature was once there doesn't mean it's trivial to have it in the latest version.
    Don't get me wrong, it's not all about me, but by allowing your production platform to become mine too, Akai gets more money for hardware and software development, so we both win.
