Sonic 3D Blast is an isometric platformer/collectathon by Traveler's Tales for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. While visiting Flicky Island, Sonic notices that the Flickies, his small, feathered friends that can travel between parallel worlds, were captured and turned into badniks (the robot enemies of Sonic) by Dr. Robotnik in his never-ending quest for the Chaos Emeralds. Seven levels separate Sonic from the final showdown with Robotnik.
the0nlykyd ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/t... ) collects all Chaos Emeralds and gets through the final fight, thus getting the good ending, in record time. - Hry
Say what you will about this game, the music was absolutely incredible.
the music *IS absolutely incredible. (the game too)
Indeed! My favourite is the 2nd boss theme, which plays on every 2nd boss
Diamond Dust soundtrack is always a emotional rollercoaster
idk why they changed the music for CD, the sega one with its neat graphic tricks and good music is the better one, even if the gameplay is kind of mhe
The music 🎵🎶 is the reason I'm super anxious 😰 to check out this Genesis classic on my switch alongside ristar Shinobi 3 Sonic 2 Sonic spinball the revenge of Shinobi vectorman vectorman 2 virtua fighter 2 and streets of rage 1
Me: Man, I remember this game, so many good memories...
Game: *S E G A !*
Me: music to my ears...
First time i played this,it was on PC,sadly...no music (i had the disk, but the music didn't listen)
Ok time to star-
SEGA!
jeez not so loud
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to the first ever published Sonic 3D Blast TAS, but this time, with all the Chaos Emeralds! ^^
7:06 This part was intense and fast!
Also, fsvgm777 will publish keylie (a.k.a. Clément Gallet)'s Minit for Linux TAS after publishing this.
That's a bizarre flex in the emerald stage, but okay
@The0nlyKyd that's fine. I was really impressed by how well you avoided rings, and how little you jumped
Collecting more rings means more to add on the score at the end of the stage, meaning it's wasted time
I honestly thought you were optimizing down to the CPU cycles needed to call or play the ring sound effect.
Y'know, in case that mattered.
Saves time in the end card. But is that worth?
@@zacharyjohnson9562 >TAS
3d Blast is basically what happens when Sonic takes Flicky's role as the protagonist of his old arcade game and makes it isometric.
Always interesting to see just how accurate hitboxes are, to an impressively tedious degree lol.
@The0nlyKyd That's the joke :P
@The0nlyKyd wooooosh
32:07 Sonic asserting his dominance, confident in the final fight.
36:12 Sonic accomplishes his mission, and asserting his dominance once again.
do a t spin double
I remember playing this when I was seven, it was on the GameCube I did not play the original, but I was so impressed by this game back then because it wasn't just 2d sonic, I loved the concept, I might have to go and find my old GameCube and disk for this game so I can play it. Thank you for bringing back some good memories.
Man this game is giving me so much nostalgia.
Game is considered a bad Sonic Game from a large part of the gaming community but it has such a charming universe that most Sonic Games don't have.
The music I think, is incredible quality, I even dare to say that the Genesis version has better music than the Dreamcast version.
The fact Sonic Adventures used some music of this game.
And just thinking of it makes my retro gaming heart shed a tear and makes me want to pop off my old Sonic Games. From Mastery System to Gamecube.
Also funny memory I have as a kid I discovered the secret level select menu because my brothers and cousins played soccer in the room and the ball hit gently the Genesis as I played the game, it glitched the game into opening that secret with the congratulation message that I discovered this level select menu.
This game was on Saturn though, not Dreamcast. But yeah, the Genesis OST is so much better than the Saturn one.
7:06 - NICE!
a very good yeet in my books
*Noice!*
"Why did you bother making all of this?"
"I just did what I wanted to."
The SEGA in this game is the one I want in the movie
A cute plot rescuing flickies sounds fine to me
"SEGAAAUGH"
the intro that screamed SEGA! was my favorite because it scared me when i was a child
good memories from the PS2.
This was the first time I ever noticed the orange flickies in Volcano Valley. Always thought there were just red ones. I also remember having a lot of trouble with the VV boss, because I had a hard time with homing projectiles when I was a kid
...because I *Read more*
Rest in Peace, Kyd. Really sucks you've been taken from us, dude.
oh damn, what? =/
that sucks to hear...
@@gaymothaunt I forget what happened, but he passed away earlier this year. Miss him in the chats I've seen him in, even if I never got to know him personally. But he was a staple.
I had a funny realization the first time they picked up the speed shoes. 100% in any time I played 3d blast, speed shoes were basically like the worst thing ever and only ever resulted in losing flickies. So my IMMEDIETE thought was "Oh god why would you break the speed shoe-oh wait it's tool-assisted"
Now that's what I call hardcore gaming! I can barely get Sonic to move in the correct direction without accidently hitting enemies.
Sonic : I am not getting paid for more then 150 rings, so im not collecting more then 150 rings!
"best ending" is in quotes because if you're playing Sonic 3D Blast there is no happy end
all endings are good ending, cuz you get to stop playing
I might be the odd one out but I loved this game
It's the closest thing we are getting to a collectaton sonic game
Seriously how has Sega not made a Sonic game where you go around like Mario 64 doing objectives
Beary Bearington SADX mission mode is pretty close, just not a full game
Sonic 3D Blast is a ok game, like it's not my favorite but ya.
More like the Chaos Halls' Lozenges
Ever since the Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer came out, he's had a serious case of strep throat. I blame Jim Carrey though.
I have no idea how I could play this as a kid, I could barely sit through this TAS without getting a headache, holy shit.
One Saturday morning, I woke up laying on top of the controller to my Sega Genesis with this game still on from Friday night and the level select screen on the TV. I had accidentally input the level select code: B,A, Right, A, C, Up, Down, A (or baracuda) by rolling all over the controller in my sleep during the night. I was shocked and incredibly happy as this was before the internet and I had no idea what to do with the gift. I checked out the final stage to the game until I lost all my lives, then was grateful for the chance and moved on happily. Such a lucky memory.
This sounds so impossible that I'm gonna believe it.
@@tajini817 There's a non-zero chance they didn't trigger the menu via the controller code, but instead by "crashing" the game. Most errors that would normally crash the game are instead handled to send the user to the level select screen. It's possible that leaving the game on overnight caused it to "crash" and go to the level select screen. You can intentionally get the game to "crash" to the level select screen by wiggling the cartridge as well, since it usually causes a bunch of errors.
@@Plide Ohh, thanks. That explanation makes more sense
The best sonic game ^__^ Fun TAS, much trolling, 50-100-150 rings, jumping around deadly contraptions just to pass time... Golden.
Thanks this game is full of nostalgia
Incredible. Who would've thought that the music for Puppet Panic would've been reused in Sonic Adventure?
Also Green Grove's Act1 music used in Windy Valley post tornado. Panic Puppet for Twinkle Park. Man this is giving me so much nostalgia
Diamond Dust and Final Fight got remixed in Sonic Chronicles aswell (Central City + Mystic Ruins respectively).
Also, who else thinks that the Special Stage theme is *somehow* connected to SA1's Windy Valley 1? My brain desperately wants to make that connection after listening to both.
Imagine he sets a WR but he gets one extra ring in an emerald stage. He wouldn't be able to live with himself.
Time to redo it with the Official Director's Cut Jon Burton made over a year ago.
@The0nlyKyd Since when had fun been a component in making a speedrun? :P
I understand what your saying, I still hope someone does do a TAS of the DX version at some point though. It's a different puzzle to solve with basically the same moves.
@The0nlyKyd I doubt it will happen too, but a guy can dream.
Quanto perfeccionismo do TasVideosChannel, eles pegam a quantia exata de anéis.
Perfeito mesmo!
Look at all the swag put in to collecting Grandma's hard candies
The only sonic game I love!
Never been a fan honestly but getting the 360 genesis collection I instantly fell in love with this! Such a unique and charming aspect to it.
Nice TAS!
This was the best video so far!
The OCD in me appreciates you get exactly how many rings it says, but it also screams that you're not getting every single one.
It's all in lieu of saving time.
@@tadeogomez7303 Most likely, though probably just a few fractions of a second here and there
@@valr2guy
Yeah, it's a speedrun, after all.

Why yes, this game's soundtrack is indeed a bop!
God it's so wild to grow up with Sonic Adventure and hear Green Grove was where Emerald Coast's theme originated.
And as a reference point, my first system was in fact a Genesis, with Sonic 2 being my first game ever, I just never had 3D Blast.
I kind of have a soft spot for 3D Blast. While it was outshined by its predecessors, I still think it's a fun game to go back to from time to time. Also the bonus stage music is probably one of my favorite things to come out of this game
Impressive. Ty for doing this.
This is great, awesome to see Sonic 3D getting attention. It's incredible to see it done so fast as it's quite a fiddly game at times but... I love this game! Awesome music. Always been sad that super sonic wasn't featured though. The special stages have got to be the easiest out of the Mega Drive games.
this game has such an amazing soundtrack, as most Sonic games do.
This almost makes the game look playable
Tamas Coleman But the game is playable...
fantastic!
wow, por fin un TAS para este sonic
Robotnik didn't even have a second to put that helmet on.
Great job completing this! I gave up after the second world not my type of game
Cool
You can charge the spindash manually????
(Just checked, to charge manually, you mash the jump button while holding down the spindash button.)
yooooo i loved this game when i was younger
I remember this game. Smooth as ice.
Heeeugh.
People complain about games of this era doing bad effects with the camera, but I could watch Mohawk & Headphone Jack, play Pulseman with no problems, but that bridge bonus stage just makes my head flip.
Yeah this game gave me motion sickness to me and my dad too (back in the day when i used emulator to play it)
Looking at the bridge is not so bad, but staring at that fucking background makes me wanna vomit.
Makes you wonder who in the development stage saw that and said "it's fine, let's leave it like that"
It's the camera that follows the character constantly, a more static camera would have been ok, maybe a "passive camera mode" like Spyro had
@@noatiendoboludos it's still a very impressive feat for a Genesis game. You don't see distorted stuff like that often on this console.
I think they mostly tried to play on the fact that the Genesis wasn't supposed to pull this out to attract players.
@@alexhardline2208 I guess you are right, but when I was a kid the whole "look it's Sonic but on 3D" concept alone was enough to make my jaw drop
take a shot every time someone compares the chaos emeralds to cough drops
Those chaos emeralds in this game always reminded me of the square shaped "Halls Cough Drops".
счастливое детство
I get horrendously motion sick while trying to play this game and this guy's out here just blazing right through it, what a legend
Doesn’t help the special stages make me feel nauseous
sonic got all 7 dragon balls i mean chaos emeralds
As a kid I never really got along with Sonic 3D: Flicky's Island. I thought the controls where a bit too slippery
SONIC 3D BLAST 1996 IS SUCH FUN GAME TO PLAY !!!
Your a pro dude!! Mad props

@@jurassicbacon glad to help bro

aha! there is where the sonic boll 1.8.0 ending music comes from.
When ever Sonic finish an act,it looks like God accepts Sonic and send him to the acts
FINALLY !
Good god this game is something for the mega drive!
Never knew Charmy had a cameo in this game despite playing it before. Then again I was a kid when I last played it.
I’m assuming there’s some sort of momentum maintenance when Sonic bounces off the wall? He seems to keep going even when he hits one
Sanic 3D Fast
E: Lmao I'm watching a Genesis game in 5k
La mejor música!
Those chaos emeralds look like cough drops!
22:46
It's a shame that Sonic can't use his Super Form (Super Sonic) in that game.
32:26
At least he needs the seven Chaos Emeralds to be able to face the true final boss of that video game.
Collect 50 rings... collects exactly 50 rings
Collect 100 rings... collects exactly 100 rings
Collect 150 rings... collects exactly 150 rings...
Damned showoff...
It's not only a showoff, it saves time to collect less rings!
The bonus stage was hilarious lmao
On the special stages, is there any reason or bonus for getting exactly the right number of rings for each section, rather than getting ahead? Or is that just done to show off? :P
I like this game
Anyone else notice how a part of the emerald stage music sounds very similar to super mario bros 2 intro music?
Rusty Ruin act 3 was FAST!
*SEGA!*
BWEEWEEweeweeweeweewee....
Man I played this game on the game cube when I was 3. that SEGAAA!!!!!! Scared the shit out of me, and when Traveller’s Tales appeared after that, I thought that little guy was sitting on a dudes head turned upside down
crazy how it wasn’t 3D since sega made virtua fighter which was true 3D, if they did it like that it would truly be a 3D blast.
Release Date NA: November 7, 1996

Top 3 the visuals on SEGA Mega Drive.
25:59 Damn, I didn't know Sonic could step on this thing.
i wish i could be even half as fast as this thing
wow I forgot this game existed
TIME TAKEN TOO SHORT
I was constantly hoping that you'd accidentally fuck up a special stage or two with that flex, ngl 😆
Dr. Robotnik discovers the seven Halls® Cough Drops on Flicky Island, but they are nowhere to be found. He soon learns that the Flickies residing on the secluded island are native to a different dimension, and can travel between worlds using large rings. Consequently, the Doctor determines there is some sort of connection and resolves to turn them all into robots using his new Dimension Ring Generator.
Later, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles arrive to beat Robotnik to the Halls® Cough Drops but find that they are too late. Sonic finds that Robotnik is already placing his Flicky friends into robots. Naturally, Sonic decides to free the Flickies and stop Robotnik from finding the elusive throat lozenges.
The seven Halls® Cough Drops are as follows: The Honey-Lemon flavor, the Spearmint flavor, the Cherry flavor, the Menthol-Lyptus flavor, the Grape flavor, the Extra-Strength Menthol flavor, and the Ice Peppermint flavor. All delicious, as well as powerful.
Boy this TAS wasn't worried about shit after it hit the ring goals in the extra stage huh

Wait this is the first Sonic 3D Blast TAS?
I wonder if @GameHut has seen this yet...
Sonic games in general are at the same time so beautiful but visually polluted. It confuses me.
Can't rember how but on the pc, I found a glitch where I could beat the bosses without worrying about health. Can't remember how.
Neat to see that there actually was bonus stages and such... Never knew that...
wait i never noticed it but THEY REUSED THE MELODY FROM FIRST STAGE IN SONIC ADVENTURE 1, along with music from panic puppet stage. HOw the hell in all these years i never noticed this?....
Sonic got a chaos apple
Holy shit I have never gotten motion sick so quickly in my life lol
I dug this game out of a box the other day and I was randomly playing. when I try to bring the birds up to the ring. the game glitched out and as soon as I reach the ring this menu came up saying 'congratulations you have found the secret menu' or something along that lines and it was a level select. I've never been able to replicate it and I'm not even sure if it's a thing that I can replicate.
It's something that appears when the game crashes, as an easter egg. You can replicate it by softly punching the sega Saturn(or the Genesis)
