I had spent an entire year depressed after I split with my ex and no longer lived with my son. He was my world and I could barely function. I spent that year rebuilding myself and consuming all things Norm in my downtime. His comedy was the greatest escape from my deep pain and kept me from doing anything stupid to myself. When he passed I wept. It’s weird how someone you’ve never met can have such a profound impact on your life, but his comedy was inadvertently an integral part of regaining myself. Thanks Norm. Your comedy is one the greatest things in this world and I am truly grateful for you and your life.
I’m happy you were able to find light in the darkness
agreed... same but different atm for me. God bless and RIP Norm, my fellow Canuck
❤ cheers I hope things are well
I feel the same way my friend. In the depths of problems I came across this wonderful, wonderful comic when I was thinking bad things and this great man pulled me out. I loved Norm. Keep strong my friend.
@@roymonaghan5765 You too bud 🙂
RIP Norm. This seems like the best place to start binging.
❤
Same here. I'm so happy we still have the memories and videos. R.I.P. Norm Macdonald, the greatest comedian of all time.
watch all the conan ones! those are money
Exactly what I’m doing... sad.
SNL weekend updates
I just love how Norm has been calling it "the tv" since he started.
The Butthead lol
and his magic phone
Him and Dylan
The TEE vee
@@aliofly The two best in their artforms. I wonder if Norm claimed to be The Girl from the North County's brother when they met
It's so cool to see Norm's confidence on stage growing over time. I also like how right behind his Canadian Farm Boy facade is the dark, twisted, vulgar genius we all love.
It's just the Xanax kicking in
Yeah, you'd have to say the farm boy stuff is really quite laid on, since Quebec City and Ottawa are medium-sized cities. Both are also capitals, both, even back then, with the better part of a million residents. Both did probably have a lot of people only a generation or two off the land, and maybe the Macdonalds were among them.
But then, if you consider not only Norm's success but the success and repute that his brother Neil has attained as a globetrotting journalist, in a career made up of the most difficult assignments his profession has to offer (decades in the Middle East and Washington DC), it's hard to suppose they really came from rustics.
I'm guessing you already thought all this; I just wanted to say it anyway.
@@dixonpinfold2582 you’re the type of person that insists their foods don’t touch each other on the plate...
@@jackwarren1687 what’s wrong with that
@@dixonpinfold2582 he said in interviews that he grew up without running water at some point, what do you make of that?
Norm was so incredibly good looking. He was absolutely beautiful and no one ever talked about that.
I thought he looked like Tom cruise on the first appearance lol
@Proper Thanks for the warning! I guess I was mostly referring to his face. :)
I watch Norm MAC-Donald clips daily. Of course to have a good laugh, but mostly to just smile. He really made me smile because he seemed genuinely sweet, and his eyes sparkled ✨ , especially when he knew that Dave delighted in his company, as all of us delighted in sort of his company. His mannerisms I know by heart now, all as fetching as the day is long. And yes, he was oh so handsome.
I'll miss Norm forevermore because he was 1-of-a-kind, truly.
P.S. "He says to me he says to me he says..."-
Yes Wendy I always do.
He’s had a GREAT BUTT, too( that’s very important)💔🥀🕊
“What are you, zero?” The earliest standup joke that I can remember, I heard this bit as a kid and it always stayed with me. Norm was a constant comedy presence my entire life
His second appearance on Letterman was my first time seeing him. When he finished with the Meadowlark Lemon bit, I remember thinking that I have found my favorite comedian. So sad to have him gone. Memory Eternal, Norm
❤
I think it was his third appearance, but it doesn't really matter...
I think it’s ‘metal lark lemon’ who played for the Harlem globetrotters.
Norm passed away today. His comedy helped get me through a lot of tough times (and will continue to do so). RIP to one of my personal legends.
Same! His comedy always cheered me up. Very sad day😔
Patrice and Norm helped me through my dark days and still do through their spirit that lives on with clips like these
Do you know if he actually did have any uncle Brett?
A very funny man 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@maxinegibson7076 may God bless us all when we meet our time.
I miss Norm today, I’ll miss him tomorrow, but I’m glad this collection is here
Remember him for his hilarious capabilities and love him for his longevity even after he is gone he still makes us laugh
It helps for sure
Me too
holy hell this is such quality footage.
Before decent digital, there was very crappy digital, and before that, very good analog.
Excuse for my ignorance, but what does you comment mean?
@@coiranioconti2357 the switch from analog to digital for awhile fotage looked a lot worse. So this looks really good for the time
On this small screen, it's more like inchage, not footage. But quality, yeah - quality.
its not quality footage.. just decent... on tv it was way better back then
34:45 I've never heard Letterman laugh that hard...nobody could make Letterman laugh like Norm, no one!!
Last ever stand up on his show. Tells you everything.
Norm has this adorable little nervous habit of touching his stomach/chest with his hands. He's done it since the beginning and even in his most recent comedy specials, he still does it. It's utterly charming.
I know, right? And the way he touches his nose is utterly cute! ❤️
He did that because he had stomach cancer in 1986.They had to take out half of his stomach and I guess it soothed him in some way.
Yep he had stomach cancer and I have to wonder if all the times we thought it looked cute that maybe he wasn't feeling good or was even in pain because his friends said he basically had stomach cancer most of his adult life but had beat it twice before but in the end he had it for 9 years and didn't want anyone to know , not even his family .
I’m assuming it has something to do with his past stomach cancer. Can’t prove it but it makes sense that he would subconsciously touch it. It was rather endearing.
This comment aged weirdly
Devastatingly handsome, razor sharp wit, superior intelligence... what a loss for our society... why he was not an international superstar is beyond me... RIP, Norm.
He spoke way too much truth and couldn’t be controlled. That’s why he wasn’t elevated to super star.
@@fredmartinjr7055 nah, it’s because his humor went over too many people’s heads. He was a meta-joke teller. His jokes were hilarious, but only if you could articulate *why* they were hilarious.
This is lost on many.
@@Senriamso true.
What I absolutely love about Norm is that he is SO comfortable sitting back in the (his) pocket, and is happy to wait until (or if) you join him.
And either is fine with him.
Great point.
Yeah me too. He’s almost never shaken. Or at least almost never showed it. Quite the gift
Thanks to the person who compiled all of this. You did a great job! There will never be another Norm.

@Felix Ronan Get a room you guys.
Just when you thought you've seen every norm clip, the great donz comes through with these gems from his archives. Thank you so much, so happy you're back up on the CZcams.
Thank you, Don Giller! These clips are food for my soul! I love it when Paul Shaffer would intro Norm with that old song from 1962, "Norman".
for some odd reason I find myself watching Norm Macdonald videos over and over again, and it never gets old. It keeps me laughing every time I watch.
It was the turtle!
I do the same thing. I love Norm McDonald.
Same
Man I love watching Norm with Letterman. You can tell letterman just loves him!
Thank you for your service. These videos need to be shared today.
Norm's earlier appearances on Late Night and Comedy Central in the 90s are the reasons why I fell in love with his standup. Back then he was one of the most unique and utterly twisted comedians that I had ever seen. Thanks for uploading the first clip -- The duffel bag joke has made me cackle for years.
Hey man, I just want to say that this is incredible archival work. Thanks for putting this collection of classic Norm appearances together!
Norm died of Leukemia. Best thing we can do now aside reprising our enjoyment of his work is donate what you can to the Leukemia foundation in his name. RIP to the Goat.
Not "thanks Dave" but
*"Thank you Sir"*
The respect was evident.
In hist first letterman appearance he called Bob a 'dirty dog'. Years later he would call his battle axe wife the same on Conan. Truly a man who was true to himself.
Hey man, thanks for these, really appreciate the chronological order
And the Giller prize goes to...Don Giller! Let's give a round of applause to the man who has preserved countless hours of hilarity for our amusement. Thanks, Don Giller.

@@dongiller Anyone notice how Giller always wins the Giller prize? You can't fool me, Giller. I'm on to you and this PayPal thingie.
I only wish there was family blood between the Giller Prize folks and me. Unfortunately, there isn’t.
@@mggailitis7231 let the people at home know who this giller fella is
I like how nervous Norm looked when Dave had him sit in the chair for the outro in 91. He respects Dave so much.
I think comics loved Norm so much because he was so original. His material and delivery were always one of a kind.
Thank you Don, for compiling these.
You’re the man for uploading this, appreciate it
You're a legend, Don. Thanks so much for this.
Awww the way he's shaking his legs at 18:20 😭 I bet he was so nervous but man, the way he grew into such a confident performer in such little time thereafter.. RIP Norm
Thanks for posting these compilations, Don Giller.
Thank you for compiling all of these. Lots of work!
Quality content! Norm is a genius, thank you for uploading!
37:08 I don't think I have ever seen Dave offer a guest to come to dinner with him on live show. He thought the world of our ol' chunk of coal even back then. :)
That's why Norm cried on Dave's last show.. they really loved each other.
@Chip Flaked it's from a Billy Joe Shaver song. The being a diamond one day thing is from the lyrics in the song
Yeah but you'll notice in the first few years he didn't even get to sit in the chair next to Dave and be interviewed .
Then the first time he does get to sit next to Dave where he's wearing white pants you see they don't have time to interview him it's just time to say goodbye and you see Norm's legs moving up and down pretty fast kind of nervous like .
Although you would think comedians felt they hit the big time when they get on these late-night shows but the truth is that usually didn't consider it big time until they got to sit next to the show host and get interviewed and that didn't happen to him for a while from what I can see here unless they were left out but I don't believe they were .
So if he didn't get to sit next to Dave for several years it makes you wonder if maybe it first Dave was a little bit standoffish towards him and then maybe started to like him after a while
Thank you for sharing this!!! Epic!
Thank you ever so much, you quisling!
Ill be rewatching this collection RIP NORM

Thanks, but please save that sentiment for Norm’s family.
Been waiting for this for awhile. I’d seen most of these, but not in this quality. Thanks Don!
Thank you very much for this. He’s a good guy.
It’s interesting to see his evolution from simple stand up comic to the funniest person who ever lived
A great stand up even in his early days. Anybody would tell you he was another level
YES! Thank you very much. Please do more Norm collections.
What a transformation during 1995. First sit-down, nervous and a bit boyish. Then the confident Norm we all know and love in the last visit. Top stuff!
Thanks Don! Great to see these spots in such nice quality.
So glad to have all these great memories of Norm and all who were bless to share time with him. Heart goes out to his loved ones.
Dude thanks. Norm’s outstandingly “Top Notch!”
And I love Dave. The book The last giant of Late Night is what brought your name to my attention. Everything you’ve done is great! Thanks!!!
Thank you for putting the work into these Norm MacDonald videos
And thus begins my Norm watch fest part two of 2019.
In all sincerity, thank you, Don!
Wow. What a terrible day. I needed a laugh
Watching this again for the first time. This was my first exposure to his amazing comedy. I'm really devastated by his passing.
A star is born. So fun to watch this evolution in his confidence and Dave's obvious love of his wit. We miss ya Norm!
Best compilation/collection video on YT... ever! EVERRRR!!!
Whoever clicked the thumbs down didnt like on this amazing video, should immediately be put on some kind of watch list. All 5 of these are true works of art. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. It's so beautiful. And hilarious of course
First time I've actually seen his first debut TV appearance. Classic. Love ya Norm and thanks for all the laughs man. You were the best.
Excellent, excellent, excellent!
Thank you, Mr. Don Giller!
Wow. His first appearance may as well have been his last. A pro, right from the start. He already had his signature cadence and joke writing style down. I can't say that about ANY other comedian I've seen. They all seem so wobbly in the beginning, trying to find themselves. Norm was one of a kind.
Just dropped in to leave my 4x per year comment telling Don he is the god of archivists. You have provided so much entertainment and insight into the late 20th century.

Really fun watching his career and confidence grow.
You know, I really havent had much exposure to Norm Macdonald at all. I don't watch SNL, wasn't familiar with his podcast... This is a great intro to his work, enjoyed this (part 1!) immensely.
You are in for a treat! I remember him from SNL and was born in 82 so I remember seeing him and never realized he was so funny. Then after the Turd Ferguson stuff I got more interested and rediscovered Norm. Now he's probably my favorite ever. Genuine good dude. Seeing him tear up on Lettermans last show and how he didn't want to roast Saget because he was his friend. I'm glad he's around.
His movie, _Dirty Work_ , is one of the funniest movies I've watched.
Where it all began. Great video.
I could always take or leave this guy but suddenly I’m on a kick and haven’t stopped watching every video of his for a few days
Love that he says “the tv.”
...like how he kept saying "the computer" on his CZcams red carpet appearance.
He kept insisting that a tablet was a computer. Lmao
The tv is how humans talk.
@@clicheguevara5282 well, a tablet is indeed a computer
I feel like I'm watching the evolution of the perfection of his comedy timing. He tells the same jokes years apart. But his timing is so much better the second time.
He never get rid of his nervous tics coming out though
So great to have all these together. Some I haven't seen which was a bonus!
Thanks Don!
This is amazing. I never saw all this. If he put out a special tomorrow it would be the exact same style. The guys a legend.
