Edd, I have a theory about zinc plating, I am probably wrong but here goes. I don't think that it is the be all and end all finish that it is cracked up to be. Think about fitting a replacement caliper, I've done loads. They are re-furbished, blasted and zinc plated. In about a years worth of use, they look about 10 years old again. On my E31, I have had it laid up in my garage for about 6 years, one of the first jobs I did was a rear suspension re-fresh. I used all new zinc plated nuts and bolts, also some genuine BMW zinc plated fasteners, some of them are showing slight rust now, and the car hasn't been out of the garage. The hubs would also look wrong, I would stick with the powder coat personally.
Would be great to live in a warmer climate. All your hard work looks crap after a year in here in Ireland
This is the most epic e38 restoration on youtube, yes I'm including Streten project dubai. That one pales in comparison to this.
Streten didn't go as hard then as he does now, have you seen his Alpina B7 teardown and restoration and his new E90 M3 project? Edd defined does great work here on 777 garage, not trying to over shadow that. He definitely deserves more views and subs than he has.
you've been busy shagging around with Auto Alex.. he'll take years off your life that boy will.. such a good build so far.. it will be bitter sweet when it's done.. the build is a lot of stress and sweat, but it's most of the fun.

Man hätte die Bremsleitungen besser aus Kunifer gemacht,Kupfer oxidiert mit der Zeit,oder man versiegelt die Leitungen zusätzlich mit Lack oder Wachs. Sehr schönes Fahrzeug,schaut sehr gut aus,tolle Arbeit.
Silver decals suit nicely for that color.

I love this project, your channel and everything you are doing (we have 3x e38s, so I kind of know the deal!). That said, I vote no to zinc plating the wheel carriers. There comes a point where it is simply too much time and effort for insignificant details on a project that is already taking epic amount of time (especially if you haven't plated before). Maybe focus on just moving forward with wrapping this thing up, even if little parts aren't perfectly-perfect and not fixating too much on that hyper-miniscule stuff. We want to see more projects! Never enough projects!

In my opinion the gold stickers makes it pop out more being it's gold it's more visible than the silver

I mean silver looks nice but gold was original. But u must like it cause it's your Car. Keep going the good Work . Hope to see you soon again.

As much as I respect your efforts sofar.. COPPER IS FOR GUTTERS NOT FOR BRAKEPIPES..Also do not powdercoat ot zincplate..just have it blasted and painted 2K.

The genuine brake lines all cost less than £100

It's a joy to watch you wrench on the B12. It looks epic. And I would rather not do the hubs zinc plated, but it's your car :) Also love the yellow E31.
you should consider a small portable shot blast to get rid of rust in difficult to reach areas easily, there are some with brushed nozzles that suck the pellets back into the storage hopper and do not leave a mess. they are not very expensive.
Zinc is for corrosion protection and is a sacrificial coating. With the heat coming off of the brakes powder coating will probably last and look better for a lot longer period of time
Use copperslip instead of grease to fit bolts , copperslip helps prevent corrosion.

Car is looking good! I don't think you should zinc plate the hubs. Fasteners, yes, but not major components. Keep it as close to stock as you can.

What are the silver Benzs on the mezzanine?
Cast iron is a slightly different chemical zinc plating process! With the vapor blaster, you can prep the parts properly for nice results. I've been vapor blasting for the past 5 years.

sorry, can someone help me where I can find the engine number (VIN) so I know if it is m60 or m62, I have a 1994 bmw 740i e38, it normally has a 4.0 engine, but I have doubts that it has been changed to 4.4, I need it I know for sure because I want to buy some parts
Open oil cap see if its single chain or double..double is m60.
Engine number is on top of the block next to water pump and also on side of the head intake ports has capacity for example b44
