  • Hello and welcome! In this video we will be looking at two very useful tools that can make us as administrators aware of any changes that may occur on the network. We will be looking at the "E-Mail" tool that allows your MIkroTik to send out emails as well as Netwatch, a scripting tool that allows you to run scripts in the event of a host going offline or coming online.

For those having issue on gmail authentication via less secure apps; use the "in-app password" instead.

I imagine this could be extended further. Using mqtt to send an alert to a local home assistant. Throw a monitor on the internet interface, and if it drops for more than 5 minutes send a alert for home Assistant to restart the modem

Definitely this is what makes MikroTik so cool :D!

Hello, thanks for the tutorial. If i run a script on the terminal, i receive an E-Mail. If i copy the script into the Netwatch, it does nothing. If i run a command on the Terminal to create a log - it works. If i copy the script on the netwatch - nothing happens. The only thing that works is a "beep" when the IP Adress is down. You have any ideas?
    Thanks

Hello, this is something that you could potentially achieve by using a custom script on MikroTik. Unfortunately the MTCNA does not require any scripting knowledge so I will not be covering that in this series. I have made a note though and once I am done with this series I will upload some videos regarding scripting.

Alternatively you could use an automation software like Ansible or Unimus to take configuration backups for you on a Schedule. I did a livestream on Unimus a few months ago and you're welcome to check that out and see if that fits your needs.
