Put the bearings in the freezer for at least 4 hours for the love of god it helps a lot!!! No wonder so many people are blowing through bearings, you hammer them in like that you are likely ruining the seal on the bearing but you cannot tell by looking at it. For faster bearing removal, put a fat weld bead on one inner race, it gives you more to hit and the heat from welding encourages an easy extraction.

If you hit on the outer race of the bearings it won't damage them at all.
