This is the main reason I don't play many mobile games. It's not even the pay to win crap, or all the ads... It's the tutorials that feel like they take an hour.

I think a 60$ dualshock 4 plus a 3$ controller clamp is a better setup then a kishi.. thats what im running now and its pretty good and comfortable. If you already have a ps4 controller then a 3$ clamp is all you need

@Manuel I'm a Note 9 user, and it's just a perfect phone. You got the S Pen, a decent camera and everything. It's more affordable too since it's an older phone. The display is still fantastic. And oh, headphone jack.
It feels more like a flagship phone than the newer flagships from the rest.

I appreciate the fact that you used a note 9 for demonstration. It's daily driver as well (upgrade is almost due and im almost condidering letting it sit for a while because I love it so damn much) and I've been looking for something like this for my phone to use steam link while at work.

There's a Razar app that helps you tune the controller a little better called Kishi (easily enough to remember the name), and recommends games that are compatible. You also didn't cover how easy it is to charge your phone while still in the controller cradle. Shout out to the Note 9 too! Amazing phone!
I have this and it's great! I have a thicker phone and it was easy to modify the rubber underneath!

I am still angry that my Razer Serval lost support so quickly after I bought it and I can't properly use it in Android 10, especially on my Steam In Gome Streaming and PSone emulator, if it worked in those two and nothing else I'd still be fine with it. It uses bluetooth and it should be native on most games.
That's it, just wanted to vent out frustration with Razer controllers on Android. Now I'll watch the video.
Whats the problem with pad? Its possible that you don't have inbuilt support for gamepads other than ps4/xbox in your android 10 OS, so you have to install custom rom/kernel
Why not use an xbox one controller and a phone mount adapter, pretty much the same thing
@@masi_ I think the point was that he bought a razer controller to do that and it doesn't work for him. Not everyone has an xbox one controller lying around.
Razer has a history of bad support with their devices. Just like the project Fiona.
Mine still works fine. The problem with it is that it requires the old Synapse software. Synapse 3 won't recognize it. Which is still pretty stupid, since i have to have both versions of Synapse running at the same time.
Works great for emulators and xbox cloud gaming. Zero input lag like those bluetooth ones. Great product!

I'm put it on my pixel 6 pro to play stadia. The camera doesn't allow for it to sit flush, but the pads on the kishi allow for it to still snug the top of the phone without damaging anything. It actually feels more ergonomic that it's not flat across.
But can you play it with a case attached to your phone or do you have to remove the case every time?

You can enable home screen "Rotate to landscape mode" By holding on your screen to open the home screen menu, then pressing home screen settings and scrolling down until you find the option. This will allow your home screen to rotate like an iPad!

I've never had issues with USB c. To be fair, I never had issues with micro USB, although USB c is far better.
This also wont work with THE gaming phone ROG 2, because its usb port is off-centered.
On top of cloud gaming or game streaming, I’d love to see more IOS/android games have a cross-buy option with consoles and PC. Modern phones are on par with a Nintendo switch interns of performance, so why are gamers not giving more reasons for more substantial games to be on the phone. Phones a a few smart moves away from doing to gaming what the iPhone done to iPods, and homogenise my portable devices. I would totally carry around a Bluetooth controller to game on the go.
Hopefully I can make my phone a nintendo switch soon!!!!

Linus should do a review on the Kishi V2 and do a comparison between the two controllers.
Using this is such a great way to play RPGs from the PS4 for me. Especially when I need to grind.
I've used a bunch of android specific controllers like this (ipega, glap, etc). And for $99, just buy a Xbone Controller or a DS4 with a cheap foldable phone holder for almost half the price and twice the quality.
And you'll maintain access to your charging ports, no deadzones issues, it won't block your speakers, and it has rumble for specific games or PC game streaming. My DS4 has become my main android gaming controller
Yup I have an Xbox controller with a $14 clip and it feels like I have the ultimate handheld.
But with that being said I see the appeal of these controllers. Like if the razer Kishi had the same button feel, triggers, and thumb sticks as an xbox controller it would be well worth the $99 at least to me. But from what I gather from the video that's probably not the case
This exactly. I use my DS4 for times when I want a controller... usually emulating old playstation games like Vandal Hearts or something, works fantastically.
the 8bitdo N30 is surprisingly good, it's what I use for emulators on my phone.
The DS4 doesn't work for me. Seems it requires android 10, in which I will never get support for considering my phone is a Samsung Note FE I bought around almost 3 years ago

I literally just bought one used from a local game store and I freaking love it. I play chrono trigger and madden mobile along with PS5 remote play
I cringed at 2:32 - 2:36 when you were flexing the controller inwards... Did you forget one side of the controller is still attached to your phone's USB-C Port?!? ...I was feeling every bit of it's pain!

For people that wanted a similar device but has less budget just grab an Ipega Red Knight.
It even holds the phone vertically for DS emulation.
I have it and it's awesome but for me it has two downsides. It's bluetooth so needs to be charged separately and there's no charging passthrough so no way to charge the phone while playing unless you play in portrait. On the flip side i use it with the Chromecast to play GeForce Now on TV since it's bluetooth.
I’m a bit nervous about the kind of pressure that might be put on the usb c port, on both the controller and the phone.
If it automatically loaded up it's own UI in landscape that would be a nice touch.
Imagine if we could have something like this as a controller for consoles or PCs but could actually show useful data or make use of the phone as an actual mechanic in the game. Like back when you could use the Vita on the PS3 but actually good because most people already have a phone.

There are so many of these on the market, so there are a lot of options... First time seeing a strap to keep them attached instead of it being telescopic! Think it would be a little more flashy being a razer product and I have seen better designs but not bad!
I've not really stopped using mine since getting the Razer Kishi for christmas.
With the xbox one series I found it slow and did not work properly however with the xbox series x it ran smoothly with no issues

They often have narly input lag, that is an advantage to using usb c plus bat life

To be fair, you will get used to the input lag. I reached G rank on monster hunter freedom unite and played thumper on mine.
Both games are pretty strict with input precision.

Hi ! I saw on the video you have an Apple Watch but your phone is a note 9 : how did you do for activation & synchronization ?
This might be the only controller like this that has USB-C. There are other controllers of this design buy they are all bluetooth from what I could find which was disappointing when I attempted to find a controller like this. I got a Galaxy S9+ but there is so much latency with bluetooth controllers and I've tried 4 or 5 different brand/models of bluetooth controllers. Bluetooth is just terrible for wireless controller in my experience. Same issue with my previous phone too. If this had been available when I was searching for a USB-C wrap around controller, I would have picked this up for sure.

For anyone considering Rainway, if you have an Nvidia graphics card I'd recommend Moonlight over Rainway. Moonlight's interface isn't as pretty, but performance-wise it's much much better than Rainway.

Devices like that are more for ppl into retrogaming and emulation. That's where it really shines.
I feel like you'd get really high latency on a setup like this, which makes a significant difference on games designed with hardware interrupts and CRTs in mind.

@@Deinorius its direct xonnect trhough usb lort. Virtually no latency. Im so mucj better and accurate. The analog controls are godly good. It reaaly feels like a slightly smaller xbox controller. Best investment ive done for myself with the amouny of games i ca play for hours per session. Plus cast it to my tv when im home. Homemade switch.

You know that there's a setting for having the main menu sideways and that you can set all apps on fullscreen so you wont have black bars on the left and right?

Just picked this up for < $50 USD on the latest deals (Microsoft version here), works great, Diablo Immortal works amazing with it too (fav latest game atm). Wish I would have bought it sooner (but deals sometimes are the only way some purchases can be justified). Good review, keep up the great work Linus and Team.

It works great with Xbox remote play so I don't see why not
For anyone genuinely interested. Android controllers are basically HID devices, you can get a similar experience, even slightly better by going with manufacturers that actually cater to Android gaming like iPega or Gamesir for a lot less money and better quality than this, they don't have type C connectivity though, but, the input lag is negligible in 90% of cases.

I bought mine to use my xbsx and ps5 in remote mode when my missus is using the TV. It works so freaking good on my iphone 12 pro max.
