She successfully replaced Shelly Long in Cheers. That was some achievement considering how popular Shelly was playing Diane. Sleep in Peace Kirsty. We will miss you.
kudos, couldn't have said it better.
"Replaced" would be the wrong word. I see [saw] her as more of a new character. Long's character was a stuffy nerd and the antagonist to Danson's character. Alley's character was charismatic and competed directly with Danson's character. Hence, she literally gave the show new life and allowed for it to go on a bit longer. The show basically ended because the cast demanded too big a salary [this is what killed MOST long-running shows that had good rating still btw].
@@jargraroch3000 Ironic that NBC would give in years later to the Friends cast with each getting a million per show (reportedly). By then its anchor & highest rated show. The actors "all or nothing" position left NBC no choice.
@@jargraroch3000 Agreed. Still, Long was successful as Diane. Kirsty managed to keep that momentum going. That was some achievement, I thought.
It ain't easy jumping into an established cast of characters! I loved her performance on Star Trek II as Saavik as well.
I had no idea she was such a character on talk shows; thank you for uploading, this was excellent
She was my favorite actress in the 80s/90s. Loved her on Cheers & Look Who’s Talking. Very pretty and talented, IMO. Sorry to hear of her passing.
Me too. I just found out reading your comment.
She? 😂
@Laura whatb
I liked her as Lt Saavik, she was great as a Vulcan
Summer School
I live in Wichita. I have many pictures of my mom and her in dance classes during elementary, they were great friends. God bless your soul, Kirstie. My mom is up there and will guide you to eternal happiness.
💜💕
Sharon Stone
I had my doubts when Cheers came back without Diane but Kirstie ended up winning us all over with her neurotic quirkiness. RIP.
RIP... She was a truly beautiful woman, inside and out. She had vim and vigor and personality plus. She reminded me so much of my dear mother who passed on eleven years ago. RIP Kirstie. We will miss you so much.
I take it you didn’t follow her Twitter account in recent years.
@@telemachia and? Just because you don't agree with her politics doesn't mean she was some horrible person. Be intolerant and ignorant iike your type tend to be but idk would you even be here.
Kirsty was a bloody great actor
“It’s ending because Ted is old.”
2022 - Ted, 74, still acting in sitcoms

You do know she was joking, right?
@@Heres_Johnny. You do know that irony exists, right?
Ted is 74 ??? Didn't know that.
Sad
I just loved her on Cheers
So funny - timing was spot on
Gorgeous
Told us exactly what was on her mind

😢 sweet be thy sleep Kirstie❤
It’s very shocking to hear she’s passed away. I wonder what kind of cancer took her so quickly. I loved watching Kirstie on Cheers, her other shows and cameos. Another commenter reminded me of the movie “Look who’s talking “- loved that. You knew her by her voice alone. A beautiful, hilarious woman and actress.. gone much to soon. We love you Kirstie. Rest In beautiful peace. 🙏🏻
Friend of mine got lung cancer. Had never smoked or anything. He was shocked to be diagnosed with it. Died 3 weeks later. Could also be pancreatic cancer. It takes people very quickly
She was 71 yrs old. Could have been the treatment if she chose an aggressive therapy. Chemo is a harsh treatment and has a mortality rate on it's own, I imagine it's higher with people over 70yrs old.
Could be she had the cancer for a long time, didn't feel well but didn't want to go to a Dr..
@PandoraJonesmodel You are right it could be this.Ppl with pancreatic cancer dont live long after diagnosis.
It was colon cancer, they announced today.
What a shock! I didn’t realize that she was in her 70s. Cancer is a terrible thing.
At least she made it to her 70s! Cancer takes people much younger than that!
Goodness, she gives me the gift of laughter. Thanks, Kirstie.
She was pretty, funny, personable and talented. What a sad shame that cancer has taken her away so early. God Bless her.
@@philipmason6282 Well, it's a kind of age.
Dead by the numbers smh
@@HOTD108_ Still too early in my opinion.
Scientologists don’t believe in early detection tests…ie: colonoscopies! Had she had one in her 50’s perhaps her sad death could have been prevented!
Too bad she didn’t keep up with her cancer screenings.
Lesson is take care of yourself, love yourself and love people who love you, get screened.
Such a memorable voice. Perfect foil for Sam on Cheers. Leveling Dave with her glare. Laughing charmingly and tearing at her hair.
RIP Dear Kirstie Alley, very sad to learn of passing from advanced cancer not diagnosed earlier. Xo
RIP Kristie my dad n Grandma are gonna be welcoming you to heaven. Miss ya a million times over .
Loved her in Summer School. Love that movie. One of my 80s favorites.
She was so amazing. R.I.P. Kirstie!
Very sad news. She was a beautiful and talented actress and a lovely person. 71 is too early to go. No age at all these days.
I got a kitten from her in the 80s when she was living in Los Angeles and trying to break into acting.
Did it work
Was she nice?
She was a great actress. Very attractive, with a kind smile. For me, she was the personification of kindness and strength in a woman. It's a pity that she died. She died very early! Too soon

I remember being so captivated by her beauty the very first time I ever saw her in a 1984 movie with Tom Selleck called Runaway.
LOVED her In Madhouse (1990) and in For Richer or Poorer (1997). Absolutely hilarious in them.
Thank you for your work and all the laughter from your films. May you rest in peace.🕯️🌹
Thank you guys. I love to see the old clips
Charming and talented, Rest In Peace Kirstie, I saw her in 2013 at a taping of Hot In Cleveland, she was a guest on that episode.
Absolutely loved Kirstie , charisma off the hook .
Just started watching Rebecca Howe's arc on Cheers. RIP original Saavik.
I remember getting to see her live on Letterman back in Sept of 96.
Damn. She tore it up in this interview!
she was fearless on twitter, love her
She was an amazing drama actress as well. Have you seen her in North and South? She was Patrick's Swaze's sister in it. She is at Peace
Thank you for posting this. She had such a great wit and mind for comedy. You could tell Dave became very fond of her towards the end of this interview. RIP
Kristy Alley was on her ‘A’ game right here scratching voice and all
Another 80's icon gone.
RIP Kristie.
Two of John Travolta's girls this year alone?! Give him time to mourn. Cheers, Kirstie.
Cheers was so much better than Frasier. She was so funny I loved her. She had a great personality.
Love Cheers but no just no lol. Frasier took it to a whole other level. Frasier definitely surpassed Cheers in every way. But I still love both.
She was awesome in Star Trek 2.
The most gorgeous Vulcan to grace the screen(Sorry,Jolene).
Brought me here:)
Agreed
She was beautiful!!!
RIP Kirstie Alley My Idol!!!🙏🙏🙏
R.I.P. Kirstie Alley... this one is not a joke.
wow ... R.I.P. Kirstie
RIP Kirstie.
Lol I love that she just starts roasting Sharon Stone for no apparent reason.
Kirstie Alley, 'Look Who's Talking' Actress, Dies at 71
A family statement published on social media says that the artist had recently discovered cancer.
American actress Kirstie Alley left the scene this Monday (5), aged 71. The announcement was made by the family overnight in a statement on the artist's social media.
The actress became known worldwide for her performances in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and for the three films in the Look Who's Talking franchise (1989); Look Who's Talking Too (1991); and Look Who's Talking Now (1993).
Alley was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1951 and moved to Los Angeles in 1980, where he worked as an interior designer. She made her film debut in 1982. She recently received two Emmy Awards for her role as Rebecca Howe on the NBC comedy series “Cheers”.
"To all of our friends across the world... We are sorry to report that our amazing, fierce and loving mother has left the scene following a battle with recently discovered cancer," the statement reads.
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought very hard, leaving us with the certainty of her endless joy in life and the adventures that lay ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more incredible mother and grandmother.”
The actress is survived by a son, William True Stevenson, a daughter, Lillie Price Stevenson and a grandson.
North & South best mini series. She’s was phenomenal in it. Watch it if you haven’t already
She's was better actress than Shelly Long in Cheers
May she rest easy in heaven😇☝🏾💔💔💔
She really was a very smart and funny woman.Dave really enjoyed this interview. Was the first time they met and they had that great instant chemistry.Sad to hear she has passed.
Actually her second Late Night appearance. Her first was on April 13, 1989.
'Smart' and then went Schientology and MAGA. One cult wasn't enough, went with 2.
@@FeelItRising What cult are you in, that you would find that an appropriate comment to leave on the day of someone's passing?
Dead by the numbers smh
@@FeelItRising TDS much and triggered. Sad.
Ugh I miss her so much…what a fun girl.
She actually was up against Sharon stone in the auditioning for Rebecca for cheers ! The rest is history ! ❤🙏
One of the guys who helped produce Cheers, it might have been the director James Burrows, cannot remember, but he said Kirstie was the one who really sounded convincing when she delivered the line "You know Mr Malone, we've only known each other for seconds and I'm already tired of you." Sharon Stone can be quirky funny too and I like her but I'm glad Kirstie got the role.
I’m glad she won over her
R.I.P. :-(
... an 80 foot V ! LOL !

Truly sorry to heat of her passing. I'm 50 and been a fan of her my whole life

The torch has been passed to Walter.

I subscribed to Letterman's YT page to keep tabs on whoever dies.
I know, right?!
Kevin Conroy, Jason David Frank, Irene Cara and now Kirstie Alley in just the last couple of weeks! RIP to all:(
@@primekiller5729 I guess he never interviewed Bob McGrath.
Don’t forget about Razor Ramon & Droz
Danson was getting 450,000 a week back in '93 and wanted to quit, that is why the show ended. The writers then went on to do 'Fraiser' which also ran for 11 seasons. ...had Danson not opted out we could have had 22 seasons of 'Cheers'.
1:22 to 1:25 was kind of significance for Seinfeld and Ted knew if they want to continue in the 90's they would way past their prime by this point.
12 Seasons and The Cast would have appeared on Frasier
What did I laugh about her in Cheers - R.I.P Kirstie Alley.😭
She was so funny. I loved her, when I was a kid. She was why I watched Cheers.
Definitely attractive..husky voice..bit crazy...nice lady..outspoken...
RIP Kirstie
rip will miss u
An often forgotten fun project Kirstie was involved with was with Prince around this time. She played a reporter in his videos for an album at the time. You can see Kirstie in the role in the music video for 'My Name Is Prince', and there's a whole unreleased album version where she plays a larger role in segues between most songs. This year is turning into a 2016, we're losing so many great talents and heroes are close leaving us. Can't handle it, too much.
Another final curtain call???
What a sweet personality. Rest in Gods love and eternal peace, Kirstie
🕯
I always thought she had the comedy chops of Lucille Ball.
She Was Like Having a Younger Sister telling us How It Was
Hard to Believe She Was Older than my Brother who currently lives in Hawaii
She wouldn’t want us to be sad
Maybe you’d like to get him in the boat.
Kind a sad irony : ted is old" ted is alive and she sadly passed away.. georgeus woman
Kirstie, one of the best. 🌹
I knew she was going to pass and I don't know why. I've been watching Cheers rerun and I kept saying, Kirstie is going to pass soon. I'm being honest. I just wish I had this ability when it comes to the lotto.
RIP.
