      I definitely think it was well worth it.
      To be honest, once they took it out of the pod and laid it on the ground, it didn't look so bad.

    This should be a wake-up call for all those older modelers! That dream layout that you've been working on for 25 years ends up sold for $500(if you're lucky) and gets cut up like a pizza pie! So many train empires end up in the landfill not sold like this one! Plan accordingly, y'all!

      Yup. I agree. They do it with everything. House, Car, Life savings. My elderly mother in law has no Will or Living trust and 4 adult kids. She won't get anything setup for when she kicks off and we've tried to get her to write a Will.

    Things have definitely changed since I was a kid in the 70s and had my HO set, none of these electronic controllers we just had a dial and that was it.. I never was much for the scenery but this layout looks fantastic and you show us how you put it back together is fantastic. That first pod when you showed us I was like OMG.. wtf... why didn't they make shelves or something to hold it all much better... I wouldn't pay the people that put it into the pod that is for sure.

    In my 3rd mo of marriage, my wife took our infant son cross xtry fr Wisconsin to Fort Whidby (north of Seattle) but while she was gone for 1 wk, I enlisted the aide of her father to retrieve a premade HO RR layout! We installed it in an extra bedroom in our 3-level condo! It worked great but when she returned, she asked why the door to that bdrm was closed? I told her it was a surprise. Haha😂😅…she was NOT happy n could NOT believe her father helped me arrange that ‘madness’! I kept it for 2 yrs but as one could imagine…the nagging was relentless! So, 15yrs later, I divorced my non-believer! Haha😂😅🎉❤

After all that, it might have been easier to have the pods shipped to your workshop. You could have modularized it and wired it off site, then spent a few days setting up on site. But, overall good job!

    Dirty trick 101 on rail cleaning. Automatic Transmission Fluid immediately dissolves the grim on rails. In 20 years of use on my rails, I've never had it damage anything. Also works extremely well for wheel cleaning. Naturally, use sparingly. The quart I bought in 2002 is still mostly full.

    @Stephan Lamb :
    That wiring under the table reminds me when I was a teen, with all my big switch green boxes connected to points, signals, streets and houses... No programming at all (this was before home computers arrived). I even used to run a 6V 0-4-0 on my 12V layout, and ofc it was running twice as fast as the 12V same model 0-4-0 when using the same section of track... A good way to learn basic electricity :)
    Rebuilding of your layout was a good time to make it modular, why didn't you (or did you) ? Are you not interested in taking part to a couple of exhibitions at least to show what can be done to save a vintage layout from dump ?
